The few instances Ive done it, its acceptable. It feels alright. Then again most of the time I try to get away because I dont want to die

It no Elite, but it's serviceable. Arcade-like is a an apt description.

Sounds like I will enjoy it then. I used to play a game called Freelancer back around 2003 or so, and until this day it still stands as my favorite space game. The combat felt great, and whenever I play spacey games today I always hold Freelancer as my gold standard :D

https://youtu.be/UdUqNJ8DWdc

I find stuff like this exhilarating. I've always wanted to be able to do these things in a game.

So good!

From what I've played I find it to be garbage.

But then again I'm spoiled by Elite: Dangerous which has an incredible flight combat model.

Haven't played elite dangerous, but from what I understand the space flight feel and combat has more of a sim like feel to it. I'm more of an arcade type, so I'm hoping NMS delivers in that regard.

My hopes for the PC version:

-Little to no pop-in. It's extremely annoying and off-putting to be flying towards a planet surface, and have the entire thing completely change.
-60fps (of course)
-Better AA
-FOV sliders. Oh god FOV sliders. I NEED IT
-Faster load times

Am I missing anything?

mods :D

I know I need to keep all my Atlas stone for the end game but I really want to sell one of those just to buy me a new ship with more slots...

FXAA and FOV sliders for both on-foot and ship are confirmed to be in the PC version.

You know what I'm curious about, hows the space combat?

Is it fun at all? I understand it has an arcadey feel to it (which is great!)

Space combat is surprisingly fun. More than I expected, I'll say that.

They are graphically improving this game as well. Really excited to see what's in the pipeline.

Around? There are several different types of outposts, and sometimes planets are littered with them (my planet) and sometimes they arent. I recommend that if a planet is "outpost scarce" you move onto another one because you are more likely to find it on an outpost rich planet.

How about those planets with the beacons to search stuff? Do you search for the colonial village?

I know I need to keep all my Atlas stone for the end game but I really want to sell one of those just to buy me a new ship with more slots...

You won't get much for selling it, so what's the point? Go mine from neutral elements on nearby planets and sell them for much, much more.

Hate to say this but. You might have wasted money. Ive seen some be cheaper with a lot of slots. I'm.pissed i spent 800k and then found a better crashed ship 30 mins later lol.

I dont think ill be buying ships anymore lol.

If I remember correctly, in order to find better crashed ships, you need to buy better ships. I've noticed that with my initial ship I'd always find a certain tier of ship. I bought a new one that had about 17 slots and started finding ships within that "tier".

No idea if this makes sense.

Something is royally fucked with how the star systems work. I'm trying to make my way back to my starting system (I want to finish some stuff up there, because it's "mine"), but even though I'm only 2 warps away I can't find it. In fact, I can't even find the last one I was in, just 1 jump away. I've looked in all directions from my current system, and it just doesn't exist. What the fuck. And when I do the "select nearest" thing it just shows the nearest system discover by another player. Although maybe that's the point. But then how do I find where I've been? Maybe you just can't, and I hate that. And yes, I know I should be moving forward, not back, but I just wanted to do this thing first. Seems like I can't.

I don't know if anyone else encountered this, but I ran into a physics related bug.

I landed on a planet and when I exited my ship I was ragdolled and launched into the air like 3 miles away from where I landed, receiving fall damage. Thankfully I didn't die because the in-game timer said I was 9 minutes away from my ship by foot. What the hell.
I had a bug where I took off in my ship from a planet, and whent right out to the orbit of the planet.. :)

I would like for them to allow floating on top of water. Right now there is no way to just keep the head above water without jetpacking into the air.

Holy crap this game is getting hard to track down! All GS in my area seem to be out as well as Fry's, Target. I finally tracked down a Best Buy that I ordered with in store pickup, so hopefully it's actually there when I go by afterwork.

Not sure if shortage on initial copies sent or just everyone getting the game.

Lots of little nitpicks like this are making me enjoy the game less and less.
I love it, but there is so many weird design / gameplay quirks!

Sony is known for not having enough supply for a lot of their published games. It was one of the reasons Uncharted 4 was delayed the final time.

I hate the combat in ED. I don't know what this bodes for NMS, but hopefully I won't be as bothered by it.

Honestly, haven thrown in my $60 already I'm starting to question whether or not I'll even bother with the PC version immediately. I'm still super hyped, but I don't know if I need it immediately.

Off topic and I'm sure this has been answered way too much, but is this permanently Sony exclusive or is there likely to be an Xbox One release in 1-2 years?

A peculiar thing but, whenever you get submerged in water, your jetpack automatically gets refilled to full without having to wait

I hope they add ways to escape space combat. It's ridiculous.

And ships need more weapon types. This is the weakest area of the game right now as it just makes me miss Elite: Dangerous :(

Here i am, sitting on my work desk; and all i can think is going back to NMS and exploring that cave near my save point. I want to know what's in it!

Does anyone know if the
other two paths have story content and an end goal like the Atlas path
?
If one of them is just random exploring, I wouldn't count that as a path
.

Path is just a word used to describe your journey to the center of the galaxy.
Exploration, Black Holes & Atlas
, the latter having a bit more narrative than the others.
Exploration means that you're forging your own path through the galaxy; stopping when and where you want. Black Holes means that you harness the power of black hole in order to reach the center faster than you would in any other path. Atlas is more lore focused. You're guided to Atlas Stations throughout your journey.

You still have the opportunity to access
Atlas Stations
if you're not on that path. They're just not marked on the map for you. Likewise, you can still use
black holes
and explore freely if you are on the Atlas path.

It's fairly open when it comes to finishing the game. If you want to learn more about the planets, species and alien races there's a path for that. If you want to get through the galaxy as quickly as possible, there's a path for that. If you want to learn more about the Atlas, there's a path for that. There's no right or wrong way to play.

Same problem here.

From the video's I've seen it looks pretty simple, but fun enough to keep me happy :)

Graphical updates are always welcome, from what I remember the patch notes mentioned something about the future having temporal AA as well as some new cloud tech, very promising :D

Dude... how have I never heard of this, it looks fucking awesome! Thanks for sharing that link, I will definitely be checking it out!

Not to veer too far from the topic here, but going back to what I said about Freelancer... I have never been able to get that same feeling from any other game. It was just something else, the game was pretty simplistic but so much fun to play with your friends.

I've tried numerous ones too. X Series, Blackgate prophecy, Jumpgate evolution...etc None were able to capture that feeling.

The only one that I'm looking forward to these days is Star Citizen... but that's going to probably take a while :(

Has anyone found any system they've already been to on the galactic map? I simply can't. Logically the last one I visited would be within one jump on the galactic map, but it's not. It doesn't seem to exist. This may sound silly to some, but this is the biggest disappointment of the game for me so far.

Yeah, apparently you can't backtrack. I wish I had known that.

The game is basically complete, and he just added a randomly generated Challenge mode. Early Access was mostly for polish, balance, and improvements

Cool. I'll probably check it out. I'm a sucker for space combat (one of the reasons I'm interested in NMS). Thanks.

Wish they would make a new Galaxy on Fire for mobile (the real dev team, I mean).

Finally got to play last night guys and I am excite, this is the type of game where I can just play and let my free time fly by happily. My starting planet looks like a dull wasteland fallout type of killer mushrooms and cute ass little mutated animals, and is pretty much a death zone with the acidic rain I constantly have to refill my life support due to the toxicity levels of the rain, but its vast with natural resources more than it is minerals (like gold). Its littered with plutonium so I never run out of fuel, and in outposts and crashed ships (I've changed ships 3 times already, my current ship is at 20 slots, I'm hoping I can keep finding free ships and never have to pay for one) and I'm currently 15 words in on the alien language of Korvax with ruins galore.

I started out trying to be respectful to the world and not have sentinels see me destroy anything but now I don't care and have created multiple 30 foot craters and kill any sentinel that things its going to interrupt my plunder. I am becoming a pirate.

You know this game is something special when the most terrifying/wondrous things you come across is....a hill. Yes, i mean that sincerely

Everytime i walk up a hill or mountainside, i get to the edge/top and hold my breath for a second wondering what i'm going to find on the other side. Is it going to be a steep drop into a cave? Is it going to be a new hostile species i haven't discovered yet? or is it going to be a beautiful sprawling landscape

The game is far from perfect but it nails it's atmosphere a million times over.

Lots of little nitpicks like this are making me enjoy the game less and less.
I love it, but there is so many weird design / gameplay quirks!

The game will definitely get updated a ton; part of the charm of being made by a small studio.

A peculiar thing but, whenever you get submerged in water, your jetpack automatically gets refilled to full without having to wait

Yeah, it enables some quick movement speed.

Yeah, I have a couple marked by waypoints, just in case I want to go back. One of them had a really nice planet filled with passive sentinels and tons of gold. I was thinking about going back to harvest a bit more. It's about 8 warps away.

Search for nearby discoveries when you're looking at that galactic map. Once it finds a few, zoom out a bit and you should start seeing certain stars highlighted by a pulsing crosshair. One of those is likely yours.

So I'm really on the fence about this game (like a ton of people). I have one major question that will help me decide:

The game hasn't been out very long, so I realize this may not be known...Is there some semblance of super special loot or goodies to collect? Like artifacts, insanely rare materials or items that you find only in special dungeon-ish places, caves, castles, buildings, etc?

I realize the "goal" of the game is to get to the center of the galaxy. And I know what happens when you get there (yay spoilers!). I also realize the game is more about the journey. But posting cool pictures of worlds is neat, but I'm curious what the point of exploring a given planet is if all you do is gather resources you could find on any other planet. Having something special to find and explore for on given planets seems like it would draw me in and give me a reason to play this game.
