Hmmmm

Not sure why but the game acts differently on both my systems.

Upstairs my launch PS4 is hooked upto a Bravia 1080p set, the fade in when going round the planet is not that noticible.

My downstairs PS4 is hooked upto my Samsung 4K TV and when stuff fades in it's like a slow grainy fade, like loads of fuzzy dots suddenly materialising.

Might connect my upstairs PS4 downstairs to see if it's the TV or the PS4 causing it.

Has anyone found any system they've already been to on the galactic map? I simply can't. Logically the last one I visited would be within one jump on the galactic map, but it's not. It doesn't seem to exist. This may sound silly to some, but this is the biggest disappointment of the game for me so far.

Yeah, apparently you can't backtrack. I wish I had known that.

I was just looking at the galactic map and I could 100% see the last systems I went to. If I selected them it would say 'Discovered by you xxxyyy, etc" I wasn't interested in going back but I absolutely could have at that moment anyway.

Stupidly at the start of the game I didnt look at the red thing that lets you choose the atlas route so I didnt actually get to pick anything, is there a way to rectify that without restarting?

Really? I search for discoveries and nothing shows up. I'll try again.

That is stupid. Not even from a farming point of view, but rather from the supposed free roam aspect.

I went back to my starting system, I even located a beacon that said it found a signal in deep space and another planet appeared, I'm positive it wasn't there before and I had a marker to an off world installation.

I'm really hoping to a small patch before the PC release tomorrow.

Mostly to address the hyperdrive/pre-order ship and waypoint issues

I hope they add ways to escape space combat. It's ridiculous.

And ships need more weapon types. This is the weakest area of the game right now as it just makes me miss Elite: Dangerous :(
Holy crap, this. Space combat is awful. Your ship just disintegrates so fast if multiple ships are shooting at you.

Yeah, I have a couple marked by waypoints, just in case I want to go back. One of them had a really nice planet filled with passive sentinels and tons of gold. I was thinking about going back to harvest a bit more. It's about 8 warps away.

Search for nearby discoveries when you're looking at that galactic map. Once it finds a few, zoom out a bit and you should start seeing certain stars highlighted by a pulsing crosshair. One of those is likely yours.

I do not see that. Guess the game is simply broken. I had severe network issues last night when I discovered these systems, and maybe the game/devs are dumb enough not to handle that properly. So now those discoveries are gone forever if that's true, including my starting system. And you can't re-upload stuff.

Yeah, apparently you can't backtrack. I wish I had known that.

It seems to be an online feature.

You have to search for discoveries and wait then you can press up (or right) on the dpad and it'll scroll through nearby discoveries which are usually yours.

It's super wonky.

Not to veer too far from the topic here, but going back to what I said about Freelancer... I have never been able to get that same feeling from any other game. It was just something else, the game was pretty simplistic but so much fun to play with your friends.

I've tried numerous ones too. X Series, Blackgate prophecy, Jumpgate evolution...etc None were able to capture that feeling.

Yeah, don't bother. I did the same quest of looking for a game to replace Freelancer but there's nothing quite like it out there. Some are similar, but nowhere near the same quality. Damn that game is awesome.

Dude... how have I never heard of this, it looks fucking awesome! Thanks for sharing that link, I will definitely be checking it out!
Cool. I'll probably check it out. I'm a sucker for space combat (one of the reasons I'm interested in NMS). Thanks.

Wish they would make a new Galaxy on Fire for mobile (the real dev team, I mean).
Originally it was going to be a big sprawling Mount-&-Blade style game in space, but that didnt gel with the combat. So he scaled the game back to handcrafted missions so that the combat shines. The combat is the focus, and the sound design is excellent too. Enhances the action considerably

Everspace also looks promising

My suspicion now is that if you weren't connected to the network when you uploaded the discovery it's gone forever, and you can never find it. If that's the case it almost makes me want to stop playing and throw the disc in the trash. I REALLY think that sucks if true.

Just last night I had a waypoint set to something that was back the way I came and went to a star system I had discovered already.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong then or if this is another bug because I can't see any of my discoveries. It just hangs on "searching" and I don't see anything but a mess of stars.

Edit: It says I'm connected to the network... And now it says I'm not. I guess that's what's going on.

No wonder. That discoveries feature never works for me, or maybe I'm not waiting long enough.

My copy finally arrived (I was waiting until watching a few streams to decide whether or not to pull the trigger on this game), and so far I'm loving it.

I got started on a freaking awesome looking snowswept planet with lush red forests and cave systems everywhere.

On my second planet and just came across a MASSIVE monolith of pure gold. This thing was huge, and pictures don't really do it justice (if it helps at all, that land mass behind it is a huge mountain):

Once I started mining it I found it went deep down into the ground as well.

It's not too far from a trading post either, so I'm making treks to and from it to sell the gold off when my inventory gets full. Very lucrative little mining operation going on here!

Every once in a while I'll type "games like freelancer" into google to see what I come up with :( I miss those days.

Also looking through steams catalog of "space" tagged games sometimes helps :p

Ah that's right! Totally forgot about Everspace! That one looks great; and I think they just started the alpha a few weeks back.

if I remember correctly, the game is only a single-player experience though.

Nope. I just warped again, and I can now manually find my previous system (the earlier ones are still nowhere to be found), but pressing right takes me to the closest one discovered by another player, not mine. And there are no pulsating stars or whatever.

Hate to say this but. You might have wasted money. Ive seen some be cheaper with a lot of slots. I'm.pissed i spent 800k and then found a better crashed ship 30 mins later lol.

I dont think ill be buying ships anymore lol.

I only buy ships if they look cool. Saw an incredible Starfighter looking thing in a space station. Couldn't afford it at the time. I'm just hoping it's a type common to the system so when I've done my gold mining it's there when I get back.

Wait, what?

So I cant go back to any planet that I have been to previously? Can someone explain?

You can most certainly backtrack. The issue some people have is finding the system they discovered as they're not always marked on the map.

Nope. I just warped again, and I can now manually find my previous system (the earlier ones are still nowhere to be found), but pressing right takes me to the closest one discovered by another player, not mine.

If you keep hitting right, it should cycle through other ones. The issue that I've had with finding my older discoveries is that not all of them show up at once. Yesterday I could find 4 of them, but the day before I could only find 3 of them - one of which I couldn't find today. I managed to find it by manually going through nearby stars, but it wasn't highlighted.

You should really check out Elite Dangerous. Become a bounty hunter and let the games begin.

I did that, but then when I pressed "show nearest" (or whatever) it showed the nearest one discovered by another player, some 500 lightyears away. And I was only one system away from my starting system at that point. Now I'm two away I think. So you'd think it would be easy to retrace my steps, but nah.

I found a nice resource planet and jumped 1 system away. I tried to go back, and maybe I just missed it over 15 minutes of looking, but it looked like NONE of the paths led back to my previous system. I looked the system name up and had it right (because I named the planet VORTEX CUBES). It's like it put me at another location not even linked to my old location.

It really sucks that it seems to be "FORWARD, MARCH ON" and you can't go back to or even see old waypoints, there is no planetary map, there is no way to retrace your steps at all.

I mean how has anyone successfully traded for a crashed ship? I fly there and see what items I need to repair it, but I always lose the ship and can't go back to repair it.

Yeah I have to imagine their servers are pretty screwed right now and will be until probably Monday or Tuesday.

So, today I've managed to leave my first galaxy behind. But boy....This took quite long, because I had to collect one ressource which I couldn't find. I think I was traveling through space like an idiot. And my first galaxy was sooooo boring. Nearly only stones, some bushes and maybe one or two trees. I maybe saw 5 animals. Individual animals, not lifeforms. I hope the next galaxy will be more interesting.

I would like to see some high developed civilizations, crazy creatures, planets full of ruins and so on, but I'm getting the feeling that this isn't the game I'm looking for. I get the atmosphere and feeling after the start of the game but since then it was only grinding on the same looking planets.

I'm about 15 hours in I'm guessing.

I found a planet that is ripe with Sac Venom, I'm talking they are all over the place, every stop has dozens and dozens of it, so I have been farming that and I have about 10 mil units. As of last night I'm still in that galaxy and can farm that planet for a long time if I want. I sold my
Atlas Stones (stupid me)
, and I may buy them back to get that
true ending
. I don't know.

I was following the Atlas Path until I got impatient and asked the Space Anamoly for a shortcut to the center, at which point creating the Black Hole which shaved off 23,000 (? maybe) or so light years from the center. Problem is, I don't know if I can get back on the Atlas Path or not. I have been following the blue waypoint path for forever, made like 7 or 8 jumps and no Space Anamoly / Black Hole in sight. I really am nervous that I'm now screwed and have no way to get to the center and may have to quit here. Has anybody been able to jump through multiple Black Holes in pursuit of the center? Did you follow the blue presumably atlas path or follow the gold path? How often did they show up?

I just double checked, I could backtrack all the way to my starting planet if I wanted to. I'm not sure what kind of problems other people are having but it's 100% possible to do it in the game. Bring up the map, press D-pad up and then D-pad right lets me select systems I've discovered all the way back to the beginning of my journey.

How do you mark a system with a waypoint?

Even without that I found my original system yesterday by just going free roam on the galactic map and guessing which of the several linked systems to my actual second systems was my first one. It's the worst option of all but it was the one that I used haha.

It never gets to any I've been to. And most of them just say "discover status unknown". Guess the game or servers are simply broken. And I've tried SO HARD to find any of them manually. Can't (except for the one I just left).

Just jumped to a new system and as I'm coming out before I even get control back I'm getting shot... It throws me immediately into a dogfight in space with DOZENS of ships coming at me. What the fuck man lol

This was the first time I've done any space combat, and boy does it suck.

This literally doesn't work for me. I've gone through all the links, but nothing.

Not working here, it just cycles though a bunch of systems I've never seen, and loops back around without ever passing one I've visited. Shit's broken. And this actually severely diminishes my enjoyment of the entire experience, since it's like the places I've been to don't even exist.

Three ships can be tough but I jumped into combat with 13 at one point. I managed to escape to a station. It's difficult when you don't have a ship designed for that sort of thing.

Works for me, but it takes a while to search for discoveries. Eventually at some point the option to press the dpad to search nearby discoveries shows up.

But even without doing that, I can just go backwards on the map and select star systems I came from.

I'm gonna post this again, because it was pretty late when I originally put it up.

I know some people find the HUD a bit confusing, so here's a little guide that hopefully clears things up for some of you.

BOTTOM LEFT - PLANETARY INFORMATION

G0iwkrs.jpg

  • CLIMATE. This bar changes based on the weather and other natural occurrences on your current planet. You should always make sure you're wearing the appropriate protection.
  • LIFE SUPPORT. Don't confuse this with your health. This is what's keeping those harsh elements away from your fragile body! This can be repaired quickly and easily.
  • PLANET NAME. No explanation needed.
  • ATMOSPHERE. This has all of the other basic information about the planet. Temperature is front and center. Radiation & Toxicity levels are just to the right.

BOTTOM RIGHT - QUESTS & UTILITIES

Pua793S.jpg

At the very top we have our current quest. This changes all the time, mostly when you get a new upgrade. Below that we have:
  • EXOSUIT INVENTORY. This has a meter that fills up. If it's red, it's full!
  • JETPACK. You can't fly forever! Make sure this meter doesn't empty when you're over a big chasm! Stop using the jet pack to refill it.
  • STAMINA. The more you run (L3) the more the meter drains. Stop running and the meter fills up.

TOP LEFT - HEALTH & SHIELDS

pDqwSIw.jpg

  • SHIELDS. This is represented by the bar at the very top. You can repair these on the go, so don't forget!
  • HEALTH. Your health is represented by a row of boxed medical crosses. Each box represents one health node. A single hit will remove one node.
Many of the planets have flora with healing properties. If you find yourself low on health, scan the environment for health. If you still can't catch a break, then head up to the nearest space station. The attendant has the ability to heal you, given you are in good standing with the race.

TOP RIGHT - MULTI-TOOL & THREAT LEVEL

9Gt7mqC.jpg

  • MULTI-TOOL TEMP. The bar up top represents the current temperature of your multi-tool. The longer you hold the button, the hotter the tool. If it overheats, it will have to vent, but that only takes a second or two.
  • MULTI-TOOL HEALTH The percentage you see is the health of your multi-tool. The more you use it, the more it degrades. It can be repaired pretty easily with resources that are readily available on all planets.
  • MULTI-TOOL MODE This is your current selected mode. As you can see, I have the mining laser activated. If I were to use the boltcaster (switch with Triangle) THR my magazine would be displayed here as well.
  • THREAT LEVEL Those boxed diamonds you see on the right show your current threat level. When you do things you're not supposed to be doing, that will raise. The high the level, the stronger and bigger the reinforcements. This will also glow blue if you're currently being scanned by sentinals. Pay attention to the attitude of the sentinals, this information shows up when you land on a planet. You should also be able to see this by pressing the OPTIONS button and highlighting your current planet.
