No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

Is there an easy way to tell how many locations there are in a system? The 3D radar/map on my ship's console is clearly trying to mark stuff out, but I can't make sense of it.

Found a planet that looked like it was straight out of one of the trailers. It looked bloody lovely, but the Sentinels were maddened! Couldn't stay as long as I'd have liked:

Like, how many planets/moons? Select it in the galactic map and it'll tell you.

Played a lot more this afternoon (day off) and I love this game. the survival aspect kinda scared me a bit but it's not that bad at all.

I love exploring and finding new places to discover and able to craft new items. Finding new aliens to speak to is kinda cool. Really stoked seeing new planets and it looks like the planet I just landed on will be a great one to explore is it is a earth-like planet with tree's. going to be interesting checking out the abandoned manufacturing plant or factory.

IMO, this game is a rare gem and well worth the full price. I don't usually double dip on games but this one I'm looking forward to playing this on my laptop.

You weren't kidding. That legit looks like it could have been a press shot!

Found Warp Reactor Tau on a random crashed ship.
Chose "destroy sentinel and proceed into cockpit."

So far I have Warp Reactor Sigma and Warp Reactor Tau

Wow.

Thank god for Subnautica, it's a truly great game in its own right but it's also helped me hold out from playing more of my PS4 version of NMS while waiting for the PC release.

Speaking of, any digital stores have NMS at a discount?

I haven't been able to find any discounts yet for PC.

Oh my god. 10 crashes today alone and I can't get the 4th space anomaly to appear no matter how much I explore, and black holes seem pointless since they don't get you closer to the center. This is a little frustrating.

Oh, just saw a ship with X-wings shaped wings. Wonder if you can get a really look a like X-wig with the procedural generation of the ships.

Is the photon cannon bug the one in which your photon cannon charge stays at 0 percent?

If one good thing that taught me, was that it made me focus on developing my phase beam, and actually - the phase beam leveled up is better than a photon cannon. Much easier to aim.

My photon cannon is stuck in 80 something. Also when I fire my phaser it only lasts for 0.5s and then it overheats.

OK, so I did a jetpack upgrade, but it isn't touching the jetpack and I can't move it.

The whole touching and color coding upgrades is only important for a tiny boost compared to when they are not connected. The upgrades still work. In the case of the keypads you can't do it since you can't move the stuff in your suit.

This is what I'm interested in seeing more of. I have no desire to buy this game if it's purely about exploring planetary surfaces. If weird buildings, caves, etc exist on planets, I may be convinced to buy it...
Buildings seem pretty limited at least where I'm at. But I can attest to widespread cave networks and underwater caves (that I couldn't safely explore when I saw them)

Edit: should stress that the latter were massive, and I have since acquired tech to help me breathe underwater. Looking forward to finding more. I'm a wimp about underwater stuff tho...

Did you see the TIE fighter clone earlier?

So, is the game bad? Or does the game just fail to meet the impossible hype set by others?

Spoiler-ish question about star systems:
So I can see on the galactic map red, blue and green suns which requires different warp drives that I do not have yet. Is there any difference to these systems once in them?

I finally found a new multitool! Too bad it only has 7 slots vs. the 5 slots you get with your starter. Well, better then noting I guess.

Of course it could only fail to meet the crazy expectations some people had. Imagine Half Life 3 someday actually coming out. It will be the biggest disappointment ever because the anticipation build up over time is ridiculous.

Is there a reason to explore these things? Like special or rare loot/materials you can't find elsewhere?

It's weird randomly going to a body then being there so long underground you forget it's a moon and then never wanting to leave because every time you need a resource you find it.
"Damn I need some nickel."
"Would you like a mountain of nickel?"
"Yes. Yes, I would."
I have to move on soon though. I want to upgrade my warp drive.
You will be missed.

What's up with those buildings with a horizontal grid-like display that says you've found a path to a distant star or something when solved? It always points me to a ruin, where I can learn some lore which is cool, but sounds more like I should be pointed to a portal or something?

I think it really depends on how your experience with it goes. I'm getting frustrated by some design choices and circumstances created by the procedural nature of the game, but I don't think it's bad.

Although this constant crashing is really souring me even more by the minute.
