PS4 Pro specs revealed - 4.2TF, 8GB GDDR5, up to 310W power consumption

MS announcement of the Scorpio was pretty brilliant in hindsight. Really messed up the expectations of the PS4 Pro.

So does it downsample to 1080p with better framerate and graphics

They implied that developers can support that, from what I understood.

They suggested downsampling + greater visual fidelity, but I highly doubt that will be the case, unless the lower the downsample base res from the PS4Pro res, and then use the extra juice to add more details.

I would love to see some devs use the extra power to crank the framerate at 1080p, and perhaps turn the settings up for very high or "Ultra". The Rx 480 is an excellent 1080p card, and even if it's downclocked to 470 levels, the 470 is still only marginally slower in my experience.

I think some of us were thinking they would change the components and parts after the scorpio leaks an annoucements.

Seems they were just too far along but if it was MS in the reverse they would have scrapped it and did it imo

Would have pushed them into march and they had too many plans and seems they wanted that extra cod push

I mean, they're getting this out a year early from a $399 price point. That's a great accomplishment and will get massive sales imo. Even more so if the Scorpio will come in north of $399 as I expect it will. In the end, that's all that matters.

You can have a $200 UHD dedicated player if you're interested in movies. Will read UHD blu-rays way better that than the Xbox One S...

Great, please point us in the direction where we can get this "dedicated" UHD player for $200 that reads discs better than the S? Currently the Samsung is $320 and Phillips is $299, both of those still have their own set of issues.

310w max in the pc world is extreme low

My relatively high end PC rig pulls 285watts (including 27" 144Hz monitor) from the wall while gaming

- i7 6700K
- 32GB DDR4
- GTX 1070 8GB
- 512gb nVME SSD

Measured using a Kill-A-Watt with the PC and monitor both attached to a strip

Yeah not even my pascal Titan X gets that much power hungry under load xD

That's because Pascal is way more energy efficient than Polaris. I mean look at the power consumption of an 8gig 480 compared to an 8 gig 1070gtx. Not much difference but the a big difference in the power of the cards.

Wow, that initial worry I had when this was leaked was for nothing I guess. Not an inconsequential bump, but I figured it would be higher than those leaks.

Damn, 310W is crazy if that's what it actually uses. That sounds more like the actual PSU though rather than how much the hardware will actually use.

So the only native, non compressed 4k content on this thing will be the menu?

They should really have positioned it as a premium playstation vr edition.

Oddly, watching the conversation after the presentation, they are promoting it as "true 4K" when that isn't what the vast majority of games will be rendered at. Marketing is a wonderful thing. Still very curious to see a comparison and the approach game developers will take

No you cant. The cheapest standalone 4k UHD player is on sale this week at Best Buy for $319.99. It is normally $399.99, it is the Samsung UHD player. And WTF are you talking about a standalone reading the UHD disk better than the "S"??? I have the Samsung UHD player and the "S" and quality of playback is exactly the same. It just seems you are talking out of your ass man. If you want to say something like this, at least get your facts straight so you don't look like an ass.

There's still the fact that using a gaming console primary as a UHD player is still quite cumbersome, if you're not interested in gaming, that is.

For starters is the UI a complete clusterfuck to navigate and you're forced to buy a standard remote because no regular A/V enthusiast is going to be excited about controlling his Blu-Ray player with a game controller. I've seen the exact same thing happen with the PS3 when it was the cheapest blu-ray player on the market.

I mean, it's an appealing feature if you're interested in gaming and UHD physical media, sure. But I don't see the regular A/V enthusiast bothering with a gaming console just to save a few bucks.

I would think it would use maybe 75 percent of that under full load. Still bloody thirsty though but that's Polaris for you.

Cerny flat out said that native 4k was a huge order so they're using alternate rendering techniques to produce a 4k image.

Lol. I mean I know that rendering 4k requires a lot of power, but how can you promote a console as 4k friendly under these circumstances?

I pre ordered, even though I''m a little bummed about no UHD BD player. Will probably end up buying 4k digital from Amazon Video anyway.

Plan on giving my PS4 away to my 16-year-old cousin who's been looking forward to Persona 5. PSVR in October, PS4P for my birthday (all new PSs drop around my bday 11/16),Black Friday for a Samsung KS8000. Gonna be a nice Fall.

I bet you dont have a 350w psu inside your pc

Yeah I know. I was just saying since some users here seemed to be really confused about the PSU size/consumption thing.

Even that monster of inefficiency that was the gtx 480 only got above 350w under load.

PS4p will be quiet and efficient, even though less efficient than newer pascal gpus.

SONY's PR? They don't state the games are being rendered in 4k for a reason.

They don't state they run in 1080p either despite like 95+% of PS4 games running in native 1080p...since it's upto the devs and dependent on the game.

He's also not going to say it since taxing games like Horizon have no shot of running in real 4K on a system like this.
