Dead Rising |OT| Chop Till You Drop Remastered

For anyone who, like me, was on the fence about DR1 due to the timer/difficulty etc, it's worth getting.

I didn't play the original, and took a punt on the DR1 remaster. It honestly isn't that hard to get complete the game. I had to restart only once, so it's not like there's loads of trial and error. Only had to resort to a guide a couple of times when I wasn't sure where to go (
e.g. where the bomb mission starts isn't exactly clear, as unless you got the maintenance key early, you need to go to the car park entrance and enter the basement that way
).

Finished the game and overtime at lvl 45. Up next is trying to save as many people as possible, which I'm sure will be more of a challenge, but at least I'm levelled up. First run through I focused on making sure to get the cases done, and did scoops inbetween, time permitting.

How many hours did it take you to finish the game? Does overtime feels like an integral part of the game or just an extra?

I think Dead Rising is the first game that HLTB's stats don't match mine. It averages at 11h completion time and I'm 10 hours in and I don't think I'm close to finishing the story.

Overtime is absolutely integral. Especially for story stuff.

a patch is up on steam:
Change log:
- Addresses savedata corruption issue that occurred under certain conditions.

DirectX initialization and 'No sound' issue
Please click the here or here for a workaround.

The dev team is also working on other reported issues. Please stay tuned for another update. (We'll likely offer another round of opt-in beta test before general release)

Are you referring to when Frank hits enemies with large weapons?
No, actual microstutter. Even when Afterburner shows 60fps, I get some nasty microstutter frequently. Switching back and forth between variable and 60fps in graphics settings fixes it temporarily, but it comes back sooner or later. Alt-tabbing in and out can also produce it sometimes.

Turn off in-game vsync, and force triple buffered vsync through Afterburner.

Yeah that's probably by far the weakest part of the game. The game literally just stops for 13 hours at the end of 72 hour mode with no real way to speed it up, as if you get captured by the soldiers you get an ending. Part of me wonders if it's not because during playtesting they found that Genocider was too hard to get unless they had a little bubble there at the end for players to abuse.
If you do get captured, you only lose 3 - 4 hours instead of it triggering a bad ending.

Oh man, I just lost 4 survivors that I saved
from the crazy priest
. It was brutal watching them die, I really tried. Sorry guys. There were just too many damn zombies, impossible to go through. :(

This game is funny. In the first hour I loved, then in the next few hours I hated with a passion, then I leveled up a bit and loved again.

I like that it can feel like a JRPG sometimes.

Man overtime mode is so bad compared to 72 hour mode. Brings the overall experience down to an 8 since the military dudes are no fun to fight.

What? They are so easy? OT mode is a piece of cake?

If you are really having trouble with them go pick up one of Adam's mini chainsaws in Wonderland Plaza

I didn't have trouble with them but fighting them alone with no zombies is boring. For some reason the chainsaw stopped spawning so I used the torso to two shot them. The tunnel part was cool at the end then you had the terrible on rails turret section that should never have been put it. Even with all this crap still remains one of the most fun games I've replayed recently. Next I await number two to release on disc.

Just finished Overtime, beat the final boss first try with the exploit without even knowing about it beforehand. Now I'm thinking of picking up DR2 on PC - Played it on 360 but never finished it for reasons I forget.

Should I go with Vanilla or should I skip it for OTR? I mean, I hear OTR is more refined, but I've also heard that OTR's Frank is a Dank Meme-Machine with barely half the nuance of his DR1 self.

EDIT: Eh, screw it, I might as well go with OTR and get the most out of Frank before Dead Rising 4 butchers him in what will probably be the worst Character Assassination since Other M.

He's a bit flanderized in OTR, but not to an obnoxious degree.

they pretty much can only kill you if you are surrounded by them.. they are such a joke when you just hide in a corner and blast them..

also is there any point to replaying overtime mode once you've beaten it? seems odd it is its own menu option instead of just a continuation of the story mode after getting ending a...

I agree that it's really bad in retrospect.... not soo much for the military dudes but because of what the game has you do to kill time. It just sucks and is unfun.
Ending is still good times tho...

I do like the initial part of overtime where you're running around the empty mall. It's a nice juxtaposition to day 3 when it's rammed with zombies. It's a nice breather, but I actually find it a little uncomfortable that there are no zombies, just silence..

Are there any game-breaking weapons in DR2 similar to the three books and Adam's small chainsaw in DR1 that can nearly last the whole game?

one set doesn't last the whole game, but the Knife Gloves are considerably OP and you can craft at least two (I believe) in the Royal Flush Plaza every time you come through.

A couple of the combo weapons are pretty insane, like the sonic rifle, lightsaber and the knife gloves. The sonic rifle especially, since it's basically a queen with precision aiming.

Just take a moment to reflect just how great this port is.

Thanks Qloc and Capcom for putting the work in on preserving these titles appropriately.

Just read the Bioshock Remaster threads..

It truly is. I was up until almost 2am this morning playing it because I lost track of time.

The game takes me back.

Thanks, guys. I'll try them out. I hope there is a book in the game that extends the life of some of the weapons like the first game.

You know, the game is more fun when you're maxed out. I don't know if thats a good thing.

A lot of moves are gated behind high levels you won't reach without grinding or playing NG+. But on the other hand its kind of an RPG and it makes sense.

The first game is a great port the other two have frame rate issues though. I'm on PS4 though.

There's also a broadsword hanging on the wall just a little into the American Casino with the guitars. Not a combo weapon but swords are still great.

I'm almost positive the game originally ended at 72 hour mode and you had to start a new game state by selecting OT mode on the main menu. I think they just changed it here with this release because with multiple save slots and no longer featuring the whole idea of the rolling single save it doesn't make sense to split them up anymore.

Took me nine and a half hours in total, including overtime. But I only had to start again once, and I didn't reload apart from the
supermarket and final
bosses.

Overtime feels like an essential part of the story, to me, though I didn't find it hard. Probably because I had three mini chainsaws on me when it began, and you can wreck the soldiers with those, and take very little damage.

How exactly is DR4 going to be a character assassination?

To balance the combo weapons, they aren't impacted by any book bonuses. That being said, they're plenty durable and with so many of the best ones being so easy to make, in rather plentiful supply.

They're not really necessary. There are a lot more weapons around and save points where you can craft them than the first game.

What the hell? Why is it taking so long for me to finish this, haha.

Really sailed through this on level 30. Didn't save until I had to quit at end of Case 2. Quickly grabbing quickstep, katana etc. Didn't even get chainsaw yet.

Sophie died again though. Should just rush for her and forget about dem convicts at first, but I murdered them right away and she was done in by zombies.

Deal with the convicts first by getting them to crash into the trees

it's weird how easy they are to deal with once you cast aside the initial fear. I fought them on day 2 by attempting to beat the gunner to death while the car was stuck. I didn't realize that actually approaching them causes their AI to un-stick the car, so they chased me down a bit until they trapped me against a wall and caused me to glitch into their car, allowing me to beat all three of them to death with a baseball bat.
