Quantum Break PC performance thread

It's still not out. I know it should unlock in a few minutes but your countdown was pretty wrong.

Uh, just to be clear, Remedy said it'd unlock at 6am PT. I didn't pull the time out of my arse for the sake of "e-cred".

Edit: The tweet has since been deleted, but:

The Steam version of @QuantumBreak will unlock at 6AM PST / 4PM Finland time on Thursday the 29th. So today. #quantumbreak

Performance test, first with my optimal performance/image quality settings where I have turned volumetric lighting and GI down to medium with scaling on 1080p, then with scaling off and lastly with everything maxed out scaling off.

I7 6700K 4.5 Ghz
GeForce GTX 1080

Just the warm and fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing you're not directly supporting Microsoft's attempt at building a walled garden.

Damn, so that means I'll have to resist the temptation to cancel my physical and just get it now. For fuck's sake, Amazon, ship the damn thing already!

Well, either way, you're getting the Steam version.

So, 120-150 fps at 1080p medium with scaling on?

That's ~45% higher resolution than XB1, and 4-5x the framerate.

Ok what the deal with QB - still downloading...

How will I get on?

i7 6850k 4.4Ghz
32 DDR4
SSD drive
Titan X OG (1450mhz)

Am I looking at 1080p at 30fps?

FWIW, I'm getting 100-120fps on the medium preset, 1080p with upscaling on - is this close to Xbox One settings? This was in the opening section, the dockyard with paul serene and the warehouse after it with jack joyce. Not really stressed it though, mostly just walking around. Been a while since I played it properly and can't remember how the performance is in fire fights, etc.

I'm not really interested in playing it, but a few posts made me think I'd just see what the performance is like at what is supposed to be XB1 settings. I'm on a 980Ti, 4770k, 16GB RAM, etc, etc.

I think that performance puts it about inline with the XB1 version or at least not far off it given the hardware capability difference.

Hm.

I'm tempted to get this based on a.) supporting Remedy, even though I'm not sure I'm on-board with the game, and b.) to show Microsoft that they might as well be sticking their PC efforts on Steam too and make the most of the platform.

Seems pretty hefty, performance-wise, though. Ideally, I want to hit 1080/60 on high, but even that might looking like a stretch.

Yeah, that's close. 1080p with scaling on is still a higher resolution than the xb1 version. 1600x900 would be very close.

Yeah it's not, but I found it (with everything going on on screen, plus all the lighting, reflections, etc) to be beyond anything else when it came out. I think people sell it FAR short of everything it is doing on-screen. FAR short. There's a reason they had to use the reconstruction and shortcuts JUST to get it running at 30fps on the X1.

I'd like a breakdown of why and what it is doing should NOT be taxing by people that freely say otherwise.

The game is absolutely impressive. My own shots..

quantumbreak5_4_20169tfj0n.png
I don't see anything impressive in this shot beyond the AA maybe?

Even little lights on enemies helmets reflect off of them. The poly-count at times has to be ridiculous too. Things like time backpacks/hardware are insanely detailed.
002s1krp.png
That's a simple specular reflection back from 2004.

Things like veins (in an NPC) show in ears and thinner body parts appear to show light though them (can't remember what that is called)

That's a texture back from 1991.

People saying it wasn't/isn't impressive have to be delusional. I 100% totally and completely disagree with those people.
Or maybe you just don't know what you're talking about.

same could be said for you. your whole post is awful.

anyone running it with a 970?

Played for half an hour, here's some tests I did:

i5 6600k @4.6
Asus GTX 1080p
16gb ram
SSD

-1440p with Gsync, Ultra settings:
50-60fps with some drop, GSync helps a lot but there is still stuttering.

-1080p no GSync, Ultra settings.
60 fps with pretty much no big drop. Minor stutter.

There's something wrong with ingame VSync in my opinion, I get a lot of stutter with it on and fps are always between 58 and 59.

In the end it runs pretty much ok on my system, I'll just play it on my TV on full HD.

Anyone that ordered the physical `Timeless Edition' actually get theirs?

I ordered a month and a half ago and just got an `Approval Required' message from Amazon saying that it's not available yet. =( I'm hoping that there's just a delay for the physical copy (again!) and not that they oversold the damned thing!

What are the games you found to be impressive? Cause chances are I've already played them and I can shred their graphics to pieces too.

I7-6700K, 390x here, @2560x1080, runs like crap TBH, stutters and in the very beginning scene it strugles to maintain 30 fps, later around 40 and stutters.

91? 04? telling someone they dont know what theyre talking about? lol ok.
That's your explanation? Ok, I see. So you don't really know what you're talking about either, right?

What are the games you found to be impressive? Cause chances are I've already played them and I can shred their graphics to pieces too.
They've been posted here already by other users, and they all are pretty good examples of games which actually look _better_ while running _several times faster_ on the same h/w - The Division, RoTTR, Battlefront, etc.

That's just a tad hyperbolic don't you think? :P
No, I don't think that it's even a tad hyperbolic as textures right now were textures back in 1991 as well.

QB does have some advanced features which can be considered unique in modern games, but they're not what was posted above, they're in AO, GI, volumetric lighting departments. And the real problem is not that QB look bad, it's that it achieve its look in an inefficient way, meaning that they should've probably used other approaches to the said lighting calculations instead of the ones they've chosen which would likely give them close graphics quality but a lot more performance.

^ That's horrible really. There's NO WAY i am buying this crap.

The UWP version ran better on AMD cards, not sure about the Steam version though.

I know that. Steam version runs worse compared to the W10 version. I am not sure what were they doing really, this is unacceptable.

Ok played it for 50 minutes or so.
Port is strictly okay.
I am playing everything on high/ultra at 1080p. Had to lock fps to 30 as it was fluctuating between 35-50-60 etc. With 30 its constant even during gun fights.
Scaling is ON. If its OFF, fps tanks to 20 etc.

Game itself is okay. Just got time powers so can't really comment on gameplay much. Controls feel very heavy though. Feels like I am controlling a tank.

PC specs:
AMD Phenom II 1055T
Zotac Nvidia GTX 1060 AMP!
8 GB RAM
Windows 10 anniversary update
Steam version of the game

so at basically xbone settings a 1080 is performing 4x as well. not very impressive. is your 1080 overclocked?

Yeah, that's close. 1080p with scaling on is still a higher resolution than the xb1 version. 1600x900 would be very close.

its the same res as xbone. and i believe xbone has 1 or 2 settings above medium. textures and maybe 1 other

Heh.

The Steam version of the game do run better for me, and I can't help but feel that it's not only due to higher fps in DX11 but because the frametimes are more stable in exclusive fullscreen there.

Ultra preset (that's "high" on most options, not "ultra") + 2560x1600 seems like a solid >60 fps on my 1080. If I disable upscaling it goes down significantly, to ~45-50 but it is still pretty playable.

So far Steam version seems like a good one.

X-D This post is hilarious

You don't know what SSS is and talk about graphically 'impressive' features. Hilarious!

While I found QB's GI nice at times, I've mostly been distracted by the terribly overdone SSR.
Having such a physically inaccurate solution being this visible on pretty much every object was annoying.

Are the live action scenes streamed or can you download them via steam?
I really liked Alan Wake and if this is a decent port I'll have to give it a shot.
