Behold Nintendo Switch (March 2017, Hybrid w/ Dock, Detachable Controllers, Nvidia)

I see the dock as having chips to handle all the OS and non gaming features while the console is stationed. That way the system is entirely focused on over clocking itself for 1080p output.

Too big for an ultra portable handheld, far too underpowered to compete with Scorpio and PSPro at home. Not sure what niche this is going for other than "it plays Nintendo games!"

And being the odd one out in terms of specs will doom third party support if it doesn't shift big numbers out the gate.

Do we know if this thing has 3.5 mm headphone jack ?

Cause my headphone is wired :(

It does. One is plugged in in the trailer.

...hate me...
My main question is how touch-enabled games will translate into "docked mode", but also have all sorts of doubts about (3)DS/Wii(U) BC handling.

I was very hyped by the idea of the NX, but that thing just looks ugly and the controller looks awkward.

Will still buy if Monster Hunter continues to be exclusive to Nintendo.

I think I'm back in but it'll depend on the battery life and other quality of life features of the tablet. But that was a great trailer that got me excited for a console I was ready to completely ignore.

it has a focus on local multiplayer that no other platform is trying to encourage any more

i would buy it for that reason alone tbh

I dont think that is actually the answer to the problem with the handheld market before though. Like does anyone think Vita failed because the games werent AAA console style enough?

Iirc the arguments there were that Vita was in a weird place because people didn't want console gaming on the go.

I think he means in terms of how the Gamecube was also kind of touted as the console you bring with you (to friends places, etc) because of the handle and cube like shape and size.

I took it as those screens both having a square or cube up top, and then Nintendo ____ right below.

So was there ever anymore information about when you go into mobile mode, its a "version" of the dock mode game?

I just realized in the video they are playing NBA2K is mobile mode, but its no way they are playing the full game with just half of the joy-con

How many more buttons do you need to play a NBA2K? You've got 6 buttons (7 including the +/-) and a stick.

My thread got locked. Ill try here.

I dont tknow that i will need it anymore once Switch releases. My assumption is that anything good on it will have spruced up ports on the new Switch, making my WiiU obsolete quickly. Even if i threw it in my bedroom, isnt that the point of the Switch? To be in every room?

Are you keeping your WiiU? Selling it? Gifting it?

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
The more I look at it the more I think that Nintendo is doomed (only a new pokemon game can save them).

You have to give it to Nintendo, they are definitely more forward thinking than anyone else. MS and Sony would never come up with something like this.

Mine's going to be locked away in a cabinet and used only like a traditional console probably.

And for someone like me who's always on the go and spend time at home really only to sleep; this will serve me well. Potentially combining the library of a Nintendo portable (which is traditionally robust) with a home console library and bringing it with me is genius.

I'm curious about the controllers...

Since they can be detached, they obviously need to each have their own batteries. For now I'm assuming the only way to charge them is when the screen module itself is charging or when they're connected to that Grip.

Looks fucking awesome, Close to what I had hoped. Only worry is the console controller looks kinda shitty but the switch ones and the console itself looks dope as fuck

Hmm... I bought all of the PSP Go accessories to do this at home too, but I just never really cared much about take the same game with me on the go. I've always played console games at home and portable games on the go. I never quite taken advantage of the cross buy stuff for Vita either.

I just hope the console fidelity isn't going to take a hit because it's also a portable machine.

Well, I mean, we'll see what gets ported. It's kind of silly to me to just assume that ports are definitely happening of every game I care about.

I despise the misaligned left and right analog sticks. Why the hell would they do this to their Pro Controller when they executed it perfectly last-gen?
Well, I think that's by far the most awful design Nintendo ever came with.

Dual-analog on top is only barely interesting for dual-analog shooters, a genre that is basically nowhere on Nintendo consoles. Having buttons in a low position is awful, and it's just because they couldn't have it the other way on the U pad.

Still, for people that prefer this, I hope you'll be able to use it on Switch.

Really digging this, as a new parent of twins I'm spending more time outside of my den where I usually play games. And the Vita has been nice, but the controls cramp my big hands and I find the screen just a tad too small. This looks like it fixes both issues.

This + PC is going to be such a good combo.

I like the design, too. Clean and serious.

And proper analog sticks!!! I was worried about it having pads.

I am so PUMPED.

I wonder if there will still be the possibility of asymmetric multiplayer with the tablet or if it's just an either or thing.

The 3DS succeeded, despite its rough start, because the games were traditional 'core' console games. The casual market it tried to go after at launch (nintendogs 2 etc) was gone - it's on mobile phones. But by rerouting and going after full-fledged core gaming experiences it went back on track, and big heavy games like Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem saw franchise-high sales.

So yes, the dedicated handheld market has moved from casual to core gaming, and is the preferred way of playing traditional console games in Japan. Nintendo needs a handheld doing that, and now they have it, while doubling as a home console for the other part of the Nintendo market.

They really lose me at the detachable controllers. I just do not see the appeal.

I'm still interested in the console, but that idea just makes little sense to me.

I guess my girlfriend and I need to decide between sharing one at home and only one of us playing portable or buying two and having an unused dock.

Seems likely. I actually think that the grip won't charge them but will act as a battery pack/create a singular wireless connection since bluetooth maxes out at 7 devices.

It looks way better than I expected it to. This is going to be the first time that I probably get a Nintendo system day one. It's like a wii u that isn't half baked.

The more I read the info the more my hype is deflated.

I'll use it mainly for portable console on the go, thickness, battery life kind of killed it.

I don't know how do I feel anymore. its more like underpowered console with screen attached rather that super Nintendo portable with hdmi output

Quite the opposite... I'm buying a second one as spare.

It's a console I enjoy, and that I'll play for a long time, and since there won't be BC (not surprised at all, but that's a confirmation)...
