The Last of Us Part II announced

I mean it's not like they live in Disney Land now. They still live in a post apocalyptic hell hole.
But it was a place where everyone was living somewhat safe for a lot of years.

But oh well, watched the trailer.
Ellie is out there to kill all the fireflys.
Oh man.. So she is putting herself in danger out of her own will..

And Joel sounds different doesn't he?

Yeah but what on Earth makes the revolver some kind of thing that shows that he's not a ghost? You're not actually backing that strange argument up.

Strange is all we've got atm, like all the Joel is dead theories are not out of thin air? There's too little info right now to state something for sure.

My theory is more dark. Joel is still alive however is worried about Ellie's self destructive path of revenge. It gets to the point, at the end, where Joel has to stop Ellie for the safety of others.

I dunno man, Ellie becoming a rabid dog and having to be put down by Joel would set off a shit storm among the fandom.

I'd personally be devastated, but that would certainly be a high-profile way to kill off a popular main character.

My theory is that Ellie is a werewolf. So the morning levels will be classic fast-paced platforming and the night levels we play as werewolf Ellie.

That's ridiculous. The best theory is that Tommy's town gets invaded by the Fireflies who then take Joel's house into space. Cue whimsical gravity-defying space adventures as Ellie brings back power to the Star Observatory.

Besides the guitar, her shirt (not the colour, though), what she wears underneath the shirt and her shoes are the same ones in the trailer. So, I assume this is a concept art of the game and that means she is hunted by the Fireflies probably. Also, she will have a bow and a journal or something. There is a book in the trailer (notice the right side of the image below), but I doubt it's the same one or that is Ellie's.

Hmmm, I got a totally different vibe from the trailer than most people it seems. I don't think there's anything mysterious about it really.

[The game picks up soon after Joel finally tells Ellie about what really happened at the end of the first game. To many fans' surprise, she agrees with Joel's morally grey, anti-heroic decision and develops a hate for the Fireflies fueled by their taking advantage and attempted murder of her.

But they said in the Panel that it takes place 5 years after the first game. So it definitely can't be "soon after".

read it again. he said soon after joel finally tells ellie. not soon after the ending of the game. so it's possible joel didn't tell her for years after the ending of the first game.

I was kinda like eeeehhh no on the idea of continuing joel and ellie's story, but the more i think about it the more I've warmed up to it. I'm sure whatever happens it'll at least be decent.

i think Ellie will be the main character that the story revolves around throughout the series assuming they make more than 2 parts. the 1st one being her origin story set when she was a young teenager and we play mostly as joel. 2nd we get to play as ellie who is now a young adult and i bet joel dies at some point. in the 3rd we continue with ellie but there will be some new character who is close to her.

that way we get a good balance between fresh new characters and a character who we all feel attached to. we can't do joel + ellie forever and while it would be cool to have completely new characters it just wouldn't feel as connected.

FUCKING GOOD GOOD! New engine as well!!! 2025 is going to be some fucking year!!!

what's happening in 2025?

Yeah, but I envision it as a stark opposite to the first: Joel has to kill Ellie now to save the little good there is left in the world and the end scene could be him cradling Ellie like he did in the first scene with his daughter.

When Druckmann said hate, it made feel like the game will explore the darker sides of revenge and its affect on Joel and Ellie's relationship.

yah she killed dem fireflies

Fireflies must've torched Tommy's town or something, and it set Ellie off the rocker.

I'm a bit conflicted, as I feel like if something happened to Tommy or even just the town, Joel would be the one of the path of vengeance just as much as Ellie. It does make me worry that something happened to Joel, which, euuurgh, do not want. The only other thing I can think of is Ellie somehow getting some revelation/knowledge about something re: her mother and the Fireflies, but. Yeah.

Joel is dead is gonna be my favorite meme for the next couple of years.

Noooooo. I'm dreading how many years I'll be wondering if Joel is dead or not for. Schrodinger's Joel.

what's happening in 2025?

I'll tell you when i get there.

Kinda impressed that ND's next two projects have female leads. The Chloe stuff for Uncharted will be fun and the idea for Pt 2 sounds interesting, like some middle chapter of a western trilogy.

Straley does the DLC while Druckmann directs this? Sounds good.

Rewatching the trailer, honestly I cannot get over how dumb it is that she's opting to play the guitar just moments after killing two people AND while staring at a dude's corpse.

I don't think I'll ever be able to see this stuff as the high art people seem to make it out to be.

Hello, COD in a minute?

Yeah, I think everything is going fine in Tommy's town, with a relatively happy life, until the Fireflies come fucking everything up to get to Ellie. And I think Ellie is on Joel's side no matter his
lies and actions in part I
, because she now believes in a new future due to the succes of Tommy's town, instead of sacrificing herself for a potential cure. I think that would be a sensible character development.

Lollll that was definitely a bit much.

The trailer doesn't scream Joel is dead to me if only because they show him independently arrive through the front door of the house and walk through the house to Ellie, gun drawn.

Psychic ghosts generally don't appear in other rooms independently of the the person whose psyche is conjuring them.

Had Joel just appeared at the bedroom door I'd buy it but not with him walking into the house.

Honestly I feel like the reason people feel he might be dead is the way he starts the conversation is mad awkward. He doesn't ask wtf happened in the house, he doesn't seem concerned about much of anything really. Just asks if she's "gonna go through with this" right after she's done playing guitar. Not really how someone would probably start that conversation in that situation.

Whether or not that's what they were going for, idunno.

Well he doesn't necessarely have to kill her to stop her (unless she's transforming lol). I like it because it would mimic how in the first game Ellie saved Joel both from a life threatening situation and to move on from the past. Wouldn't that be cool?

I don't know, I'm going with the he's dead thing too.

That's the reason for the carnage.

She's reminiscing about Joel because he was the one who teach her guitar.

I thought I didn't want a sequel after the first ending so well... but damn do I now want to see where they are gonna go with these two.

It is obviously a stylistic choice, but I think for the characters in the TLOU world a few corpses don't make that much of an impression anymore. Especially characters like Ellie and Joel who have dozens/hundreds of bodies on them. Furthermore, many people sing to calm down and people in shock can act as if everything is normal as a protection mechanism, so that could be a possibility as well.

Also, what is "high art" for you? Because, for example, a ton of arthouse films have people doing the weirdest shit that wouldn't happen in real life.

Why not? By then, killing people is just so normal for them. Even more so that it takes place 3 or so years later.

Awkward would be Joel feeling concerned about it. I mean, do you remember how TLOU ended in the burning cabin? We don't even know if Joel was with her when all hell broke loose anyway. Maybe he went outside for a while after the fact for whatever reason. Let's have some imagination here.

I agree, at this point it makes sense for them to be completely desensitized for killing people/corpses, with the exception of people they know and love offcourse. Sad, but not surprising. Especially in Joel's case.

I feel like game logic has truly gripped people's minds when they say things like "killing is normal". This is not how people function even if they are used to death.

Honestly even in the first game if Joel walked in on someone doing what she's doing he'd probably say "what in the hell are you doing?"

Do we know what happened here? For all we know Joel was involved and comes strolling back after checking the area. Point is, nobody here knows the exact context of this teaser.
