Whoever doesn't like this, move on....there're many of us
D) who do like this and we're hyped.

But it was a place where everyone was living somewhat safe for a lot of years.I mean it's not like they live in Disney Land now. They still live in a post apocalyptic hell hole.
Yeah but what on Earth makes the revolver some kind of thing that shows that he's not a ghost? You're not actually backing that strange argument up.
Jesus
XD
Yea, folks have mentioned that (myself included!) on the previous pages.
If true, this game is gonna be a real tear-jerker
D:
My theory is more dark. Joel is still alive however is worried about Ellie's self destructive path of revenge. It gets to the point, at the end, where Joel has to stop Ellie for the safety of others.
My theory is that Ellie is a werewolf. So the morning levels will be classic fast-paced platforming and the night levels we play as werewolf Ellie.
This fan art feels more official now

Besides the guitar, her shirt (not the colour, though), what she wears underneath the shirt and her shoes are the same ones in the trailer. So, I assume this is a concept art of the game and that means she is hunted by the Fireflies probably. Also, she will have a bow and a journal or something. There is a book in the trailer (notice the right side of the image below), but I doubt it's the same one or that is Ellie's.
Hmmm, I got a totally different vibe from the trailer than most people it seems. I don't think there's anything mysterious about it really.
[The game picks up soon after Joel finally tells Ellie about what really happened at the end of the first game. To many fans' surprise, she agrees with Joel's morally grey, anti-heroic decision and develops a hate for the Fireflies fueled by their taking advantage and attempted murder of her.
Theres some crazy theory that Joel is already dead, Ellie is getting revenge due to the fireflies killing him and what we see in the trailer is a metaphorical Joel acting as a conscience.
But they said in the Panel that it takes place 5 years after the first game. So it definitely can't be "soon after".
Was there any doubt, OP?
Original Game sold amazingly well.
FUCKING GOOD GOOD! New engine as well!!! 2025 is going to be some fucking year!!!
I dunno man, Ellie becoming a rabid dog and having to be put down by Joel would set off a shit storm among the fandom.
I'd personally be devastated, but that would certainly be a high-profile way to kill off a popular main character.
Strange is all we've got atm, like all the Joel is dead theories are not out of thin air? There's too little info right now to state something for sure.
yah she killed dem fireflies
Fireflies must've torched Tommy's town or something, and it set Ellie off the rocker.
Joel is dead is gonna be my favorite meme for the next couple of years.
i think Ellie will be the main character that the story revolves around throughout the series assuming they make more than 2 parts. the 1st one being her origin story set when she was a young teenager and we play mostly as joel. 2nd we get to play as ellie who is now a young adult and i bet joel dies at some point. in the 3rd we continue with ellie but there will be some new character who is close to her.
that way we get a good balance between fresh new characters and a character who we all feel attached to. we can't do joel + ellie forever and while it would be cool to have completely new characters it just wouldn't feel as connected.
what's happening in 2025?
Alright so we agree him holding a revolver still has nothing to do whether or not he's a ghost.
Rewatching the trailer, honestly I cannot get over how dumb it is that she's opting to play the guitar just moments after killing two people AND while staring at a dude's corpse.
I don't think I'll ever be able to see this stuff as the high art people seem to make it out to be.
Hello, COD in a minute?

The trailer doesn't scream Joel is dead to me if only because they show him independently arrive through the front door of the house and walk through the house to Ellie, gun drawn.
Psychic ghosts generally don't appear in other rooms independently of the the person whose psyche is conjuring them.
Had Joel just appeared at the bedroom door I'd buy it but not with him walking into the house.

She's reminiscing about Joel because he was the one who teach her guitar.

Honestly I feel like the reason people feel he might be dead is the way he starts the conversation is mad awkward. He doesn't ask wtf happened in the house, he doesn't seem concerned about much of anything really. Just asks if she's "gonna go through with this" right after she's done playing guitar. Not really how someone would probably start that conversation in that situation.
Why not? By then, killing people is just so normal for them. Even more so that it takes place 3 or so years later.
Awkward would be Joel feeling concerned about it. I mean, do you remember how TLOU ended in the burning cabin? We don't even know if Joel was with her when all hell broke loose anyway. Maybe he went outside for a while after the fact for whatever reason. Let's have some imagination here.
I feel like game logic has truly gripped people's minds when they say things like "killing is normal". This is not how people function even if they are used to death.
Honestly even in the first game if Joel walked in on someone doing what she's doing he'd probably say "what in the hell are you doing?"
