The Last of Us Part II announced

It's one sequel. Jesus...

I don't just mean about this game, like I said, I'm sure it will be great. I just mean in general. I feel like the first game had a perfectly self-contained story that didn't need expanding, and I'd love to see what else Naughty Dog might do.

Eh I'm sure it will be good but I really feel like I got my money's worth with these characters and this world.

Part of me is just kinda disappointed that it is so rare for things to be put to rest peacefully in gaming, it just has to be continued literally until no one is interested anymore.

Don't tread on my hype! 😤

Oh, yeah. I guess see what happens post-Part 2. The fact that ND decided against making another Jak and Daxter game to make a new IP (TLoU) and after the Chloe DLC are seemingly happy about leaving Uncharted behind seems like...from their point of view they don't want to do things longer than they feel its valid, creatively speaking.

well they are done with uncharted, so whatever is after TLOU 2 will be a new ip

Have to pay the bills too.

I hope ND go nuts with clickers in part 2. They had some cool clicker designs but didn't use them in game in TLoU

Alright, man, that looks a bit way too much. lol. Like Infected animal clickers could be interesting, just to see cordyceps fungus slowing invading everything beyond humans, creating clicker Giraffes and stuff.

But the one here, like yo, Is that supposed to be like a infected deer with an infected corpses all over on it? And is it facing us or is that it's rear with the tail being there and all. Like wtf.

The reaction to this announcement shows what the majority wanted. And that is a sequel starring Joel and Ellie. Can't please every one.

The way they are treating this DLC I'm not so sure Uncharted is done. I guess Naughty Dog is done, but the scope of this seems like a good test for the future viability of the IP with a new protagonist. Hopefully it's a hit so the IP doesn't stay dormant for too long. It's also really interesting to see how some unknowns from that studio perform with what could be their big break. Hell if we want to really go crazy they might get to start their own new studio and continue with the franchise. It doesn't feel like a goodbye story.

I believe it's a bunch of humans merged together.

I would love to see TLOU Part II have some serious traditional boss fights. The first game only had one with the first bloater, but it was really fun. They should build on that.

Do you guys remember the following article:

The article says that Ellie is 19 and Neil confirmed that Ellie will be 19 in the game.
Maybe the article is not fake? On the other hand the article also mentions Bruce Straley, but as we know so far he is not involved in the development at the moment.

Pretty funny anyway.

I conceptually didn't really want a sequel to follow these characters -- upon finishing the first game I was totally up for seeing more of this world, just from other perspectives. I still believe the Joel & Ellie story of the first game is a 100% complete story, with or without a sequel.

Fortunately though, the trailer sold me pretty well on the idea. My only concern is that the crux of the core story is dealing with the mutual acceptance of the lie that concluded the first game, I think it's best to really underplay this part of the Joel/Ellie relationship in the sequel. I think it won't be touched on much, given how driven Ellie appears in this trailer I feel like the tensions on her end won't be super high, she's preoccupied, and Joel has totally made peace with what he did.

I wonder how much of this is going to focus on how Joel kind of turned Ellie into a monster by (albeit not maliciously) exposing her to the fucked up world of The Last of Us at such a young age, she's already competent within her surroundings before those events, sure -- but she saw and did some truly terrible things that no one should have to endure, the shakes imply she might be a little warped from the whole ordeal -- I mean, there was an implied attempted rape in the first game, that'll fuck you up.

The game is based on concepts of emotion, dramatic appeal and relationships. The moment immersion is broken to show "cool things" people will stop caring. That's Scriptwriting 101.

If "Script Writing 101" (two words, by the way) were actually taught it would no doubt also leave room for dramatic license and concepts such as time compression, in order to tell a story that is (semi) realistic but *also* entertaining to most of the audience. Most people don't find ultra-realism entertaining as anything that follows a hyper realistic time line for character development is going to move far too slowly within the given media's ability to tell that story. This holds for movies or videogames. Books and, to a lesser extent, TV series have more allowable space and time within which to tell a story, but even they have to condense things a bit to make it fun to read or watch lest most of the audience doze off.

An example that immediately comes to mind is that old-ish HBO series "Oz". A close family friend worked as a prison guard and eventually warden for his entire adult life. He sat down every week for dinner with my family when I was growing up and would tell us stories of things happening inside the prison. When "Oz" came out, he watched it bemusedly at first...but it eventually won him over. He remarked several times that the stories in the show could have all been ripped from actual events inside a Max Security prison and that the only major difference from real life was how condensed/quickly things occurred. He was smart enough to understand if the writers of the show wanted people to tune in each week, character progression and plot points had to happen much faster than they would in real life prison...in a matter of weeks/months instead of years/decades. But, for the most part, he said those plot lines and character reactions to events surrounding them were very realistic (if u take into account dramatic license of a story-teller).

My story predictions: Ellie's going to start showing very subtle signs of being Infected throughout the game. Joel's going to freak out.

Just watched the high-bitrate 4K version. Fuck, this looks so good.
I'm sure the finished game won't be anywhere near that but damn.

I also kinda want to replay TLOU now but last time I tried, I dropped it midway through. Replaying the game is just not the same :(

It totally could be!

Why would Ellie care about brutalizing a bunch of redshirts anyway. She's a stone-cold killer just like Joel, five years later, probably even moreso. I know I killed me a bunch of people with her in TLOU and LB. :P

Bigger hint: Ashley Johnson was asked at the panel if there was a reason behind the hand-shaking, and she said there was and wasn't allowed to say any more lol.

She was a stone-cold killer.

Chances are between TLoU Part I and Part II she hasn't exactly been hanging out with the same crowd Joel used to, so it's unlikely she's been killing people on regular intervals.

I don't think she knows what Joel did at that point but that grimace in her eye, hate certainly looks to be there- maybe she's just come to accept it begrudgingly? And with all the killing I think she's staring to properly ride the line of good / bad like Joel did in the first- succumbing to the harsh world they live in.

Can't believe people are overlooking the obvious stuff too. She's just brutally gone through a house of people, adrenaline would be kicking like a motherfucker. Hence the shaking.

I still think it could easily be the immunity giving in.

Eh, the world they're in is complete shit. I doubt she found peace for five years straight.

I liked to pretend they did, before this game existed, but that's over so.

At the end of TLOU they were heading back to Tommy's place, which barring an attack bigger than the one we witnessed or fresh outbreak inside the compound looked like a pretty stable place to live. It's perfectly reasonable to assume Joel & Ellie (assuming they didn't separate) have live a fairly quiet life until Part II kicks off.

Oh man.

I am both super excited and terrified. The trailer definitely had the right tone for me, and I am really curious to see where they take the story. Ellie could use more development too considering her age in the first game. However a part of me was very okay with TLOU (one of my favourite games period) being standalone. I fear they could murk up the first game. I am super cautiously optimistic I guess, and they can certainly improve on the gameplay of the first game.

Wow, that's really exciting if true. Especially re the scale of the encounters.

But "scans" like this are usually bannable. Careful.

dem Joel eyes

Shit, well spotted!

Hmm.

Could be infection, adrenaline, or... I wouldn't be surprised if she had become an alcoholic. Especially dealing with the lies and trauma of Part I.

I guess she'd have to hit the bottle pretty hard to get shakes by 19. Like, fatally hard.

that looks amazing. I think TLOU only had 1 boss fight with a big clicker in the basketball court. I mean if this is futher down the timeline, would be great to see new enemies; but not if they break the immersion by going too far like them biohazard evolutions in resident evil. Works in that game, probably not so much in this.

"Regular" intervals.

There's a difference between being forced to kill every now and then as part of the sucky life of the zombie apocalypse world, and then suddenly going to a home and starting brutally killing everyone there at a go, and then proclaiming with a vengeance you intend to repeat that x several dozen times.

Neil said they scratched these designs because they were too alien/over the top so I doubt they'll include them.
An the clicker you mention appears more than once.

Would love to see animals.

cordyceps_gorilla_by_thomaswievegg-d7juaop.jpg

ND already said they cut animals because it wouldn't fit lore wise.

I don't want infected animals in the game, if anything the cordyceps infection should be dying out because of the lack of a stable human population to carry it.

Considering this trailer is about the people, where the initial reveal was about the infected, I wouldn't be shocked if the infected are a much smaller role in this story.

Also, if Ellie is going to turn into anyone, it's going to be someone like Tess.

Someone you don't want to cross, someone who will break your knee cap open and then blow your face off in a heartbeat.

Any one think it might be Joel is dead and Ellie is imagining him there and what he would say.

Rumors appeared that Joel doesn't seem to have aged and you really don't see his face clearly.

It's only been 5 years, you don't see Joel's face and even then he isn't going to age all that much in comparison to Ellie who is going through puberty. We're not dealing with Kojima, ND trailers are specific to create a tone and show you what to expect coming in.

this summer iirc, before E3 I think?

Lots of people have said that, but they keep Joel out of focus both to have it be a surprise that he's in the game and also to highlight that Ellie is the main playable character this time around.

Joel is not gonna be dead lol. Druckmann ain't that bad of a writer.
