Also recommendations welcome; list should reflect my current tastes I guess..

Midnight Club II for $3.49 is pretty good, and well worth it for the crazy arcade fun.

Also an excuse to post this whoo.

Ha! Played this on the OG XBOX and had immense fun with it. The rubberband AI can drive a man CRAZY though.

Just got FFIX.. finally got to play the one of the older FF :P

Any recent city building games in the similar vibe to Caesar, Pharaoh, or Zeus?

Edit:
^You in Asia too I take it?

witcher 3 any day of the week. easily one of the greatest games I've ever played.

Witcher 3.

There is no reality where MGSV comes out ahead.

Does Witcher 3 let you summon a helicopter to the tune of Only Time Will Tell?

More importantly, do any naked women in Witcher 3 breathe through their skin?

Get Witcher 3, at least it doesn't mock your intellect and is more honest and comfortable with its fan service.

Witcher 3. Can you believe an MGS game would have grinding in it? No? Well, that's MGSV and why I stopped playing it. Ruined.

GAWDDAMN WHAT A LANDSLIDE!!!!

Ok WItcher 3 it is.

Is the combat as bad as I heard it is?

This + mad max on bundlestars. Under $100, not too bad. I needed to get some more Vive games. Overall i'm happy with the sales for the year.

So we just came home from the movie theater and my wife surprised me with an early Christmas present - the HTC Vive.

Since I haven't really paid too much attention to these things before, I'm kinda curious what are some of the essential games for the Vive? Any suggestions?

Holy shit. That's awesome. Can I have your wife?

It isn't really a game but I've heard people praise Google Earth VR pretty hard and it is free!

Ooh, I can shill for games I love? In that case...

This is Suda51 in his prime. Fresh off of his stint with Human Entertainment, at which he made the absolutely deranged Syndrome games, he decided to go his own way and start Grasshopper Entertainment. The result was The Silver Case. Made with a tiny staff and hamstrung by all kinds of restrictions both financial and otherwise, this lead to the creation of the Film Window system.
Are there any other visual novels with a realistic style/aesthetic like this?

I've wanted to get into the genre, since I like text adventures and interactive fiction, but the art that's usually present in visual novels...I cant get past it

Well i played on hard so and i didnt mess with crafting cause i find that stuff super boring so i only ended up using whatever i found/bought and i thought the combat was servicable, its not not dark souls or whatever people wanted it to be but its way better than witcher 2's combat

Very, very few. Keep in mind TSC isn't just a VN, it's a full 3d investigative game. The trailers don't really display that aspect of it at all.

I think this is your best entry level title, as long as you realize the plot is insanely convoluted and those of us who've played all Suda's titles struggle to understand the plot.

Oh, with like dialogue choices and needing to gather evidence and whatnot?

Bought Trillion and Valhalla due to this thread, both are exactly what I'm looking for, well shilled Gaf. Just when you think you own everything...

Looking at FF6, no nostalgia goggles because I'm PAL region, so long as it works with a controller all is good. Maybe not seeing it but I could really use a $100USDish bundle with all the Final Fantasies, 12 seems to be missing tho and I really liked that one. Makes it easier to hold off buying $220AUD worth of Fantasies till a bundle shows up.

My recommendation would be Subterrain. 42% off, $9.85 on my store. Great game I picked up last sale and shilled except now all the bugs are fixed and post-game content added so its the full package. From the steam page "Uncompromising Sci-Fi survival on Mars! Manage the entire colony single-handed! Craft, Research, Explore and Fight against evolving mutants. Vast open world and randomly generated levels to explore! "

So.

Tales of Zestiria, Final Fantasy III, Trails in the Sky or Grandia II? Currently have Tales of Symphonia and Ys Origin in the cart.

I have GTA V, MGS V Definitive and Borderlands 2 GOTY (just want the DLC why is there no bundle outside of the season pass???) in my cart. Gonna wait till Christmas to get them because I'll get a Steam card.

Adding all that to my backlog along with Witcher 3 and Doom from the previous sale should make me super busy next year.

The lab is awesome (and free!), my favorite software for Vive, even if your wife isn't a gamer, she'll enjoy it.

So you know, doesn't feel she wasted 800$ :p

I recommend The Silver Case too, is an unique game. It certainly has it's quirks but if you give yourself to the experience it will provide you with something special.

Is not for everyone, though.

Okay, it sounds intriguing, but from a gameplay POV it's basically a Visual Novel? Dialogue trees provide the bulk of gameplay options?

Is a visual novel, with a few puzzles of it. It has some navigation and interactivity unlike most games of the genre, but it dosn't have dialogue trees.

Sounds like it's more akin to, say, a Phoenix Wright or Ghost Trick-type game?

On an unrelated note, I'm looking at:
Orwell
Virginia
1979 (whatever the Iranian Revolution game was titled!)
The Bunker
Event[0]

I didn't realize Sausage Roll was 24 bucks... I'm not sure I can justify that purchase!

FF IV save system is weird. Theres no slots, nor do you even save manually, it seems to auto save before each battle or screen change.

Not quite, because Silver Case is not as heavy in the gameplay elements. Is more a VN with some puzzles throw into it.

The unique visual presentation sets ir apart from most games in the genre. So is hard to find similars.

There was a giveaway in the last Steam thread with 7 or 8 Corporate Simulators in it. Look for that before buying it.
