Man there's a curse with Q1 being so packed. I wanna get horizon, but there's so many other games in the next few months I wanna get too. And unfortunately I want them a little more than horizon, so I'll have to hold off a bit before I jump in. But everything looks great as it has for the past few years. Hopefully I'll be able to get to it soon

I was really hyped for this game until I saw the Kinda Funny gameplay vid

Greg describing it as "very ubisoft". Will probably wait for a sale

Greg also said it was Amazing, absolutely stunning and GREAT so you are only seeing what you wanna see, Greg is pretty hyped.

Is it me or do other open world games feel threatened by Horizon's existence?

I'm looking forward to the game, but I don't think it's going to reinvent the wheel for open world games. I do, however, believe that execution is key for this game to be a success and so far I like what I'm seeing from GG.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm going to be turning as many of these off as possible. Too much hand-holding and UI clutter in games these days.
Compass, enemy awareness icons, enemy health bar, stealth symbol, xp bar, quest trackers, inventory log, all being turned off immediately.

So glad that this is even possible.

It speaks volumes out of all the praise greg gave it, this is your takeaway. Confirmation Bias at its best here.

Idk about open world games but some ppl sure do seem to be

Yes, but the Wire eventually did get a lot of success and mainstream recognition. Killzone 2 has been out for 8 years now, and I haven't seen that much mention of it even on GAF.

Of course personally it is all subjective, if you want to put it more precisely and factually, Guerrila games have made far fewer great games and far less regarded by the gaming populace in large compared to Nintendo.
This makes sense...that other stuff you were saying is bollocks though. Killzone 2 was some people GOTY. It scored well, sold well, and had some of the best graphics on PS3. Because it wasn't as successful or popular as Halo or COD (the biggest games in the genre) doesn't mean squat when talking about quality.

Also, think Horizon's going to turn out amazing!

my only concern is variety... How many robots are there?

25 main robot types.

Games don't have feelings last I checked. I dunno, many of the open world games seem to be diversifying once again that it seems difficult to just lump them in together. Games like Prey, BoTW and Horizon all have different end goals and different ideas to go about them.

Horizon wants to facilitate its intense action combat as much as possible and the story and mechanics are a framing device for that.

Prey wants to facilitate being in a space Station attacked by aliens, a desperate situation, but one that's not hopeless and the mechanics reinforce that idea.

Breath of the Wild wants to be a sweeping adventure that emphasizes its variety in all of its mechanics and not necessarily focusing in depth on any one but handling them all to an above average level.

No need to pick on Witcher 3 for no reason. Its combat wasn't that good but Witcher 3 does so much more with other aspects of the game that its hard to be upset with the quality of the overall game.

Design wise, HZD doesn't remind me of either the Souls series or Witcher though. It's far more similar to something you'd see in ranged combat for a monster hunting game with its emphasis on positioning.

Yeah. I am getting monster hunter type combat vibes from it. One reason I'm super excited cause I like monster hunter type games but what I dislike about them is that it's always same stages, no exploration (always the same areas cause hey want you to focus on battle only), and barely story focused. If it is anything like the vibe I'm getting it will take the combat I like and crafting from a monster hunter type game but put it in elements I really dislike that monster hunter type games don't have.

I agree that witcher combat was boring (aside from boss battles which were great). But this doesn't get that vibe. This gives me the vibe that if you don't prepare right and focus on the right things you will have a bad time. Where as in witcher you could just keep hitting the swing sword button and in general win. This one looks like it wants you to actually use strategy (traps, aim for the right parts, that kind of thing).

Corrupted variants don't count.

Yeah well, I'm not exactly counting that but like a bigger version of the raptor thing or those robots that cast fire or ice... if they count on the total number then I hope the variants be at minimum. Personaly I want as many unique type of robots as possible.

Then again, every machine seems to have so much work put into it that I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

That is the greenest night I've seen in a game.

Time of day in photo mode is a game changer.
Yeah if I HAD to knock one thing about the game so far (visually), it's that I don't like the direction they went with night time lighting. Makes me feel like the world is suddenly under water or something, and it's really lacking contrast. Wish they went with a more natural look or even went with a blue hue instead.

Nioh gives off Souls vibes, a popular series, and so hypes people for Nioh
Horizon gives off Farcry vibes, a more popular series, and so is putting people off Horizon ...

Logic is dead.

The more I see of the game the more hyped I'm getting despite my reservations.

Looking forward to picking this up come summer - alongside Nioh, ME:A Yakuza 0.

Far Cry's popularity has been in a huge decline, just look at Primal's sales. The souls series is the biggest it has ever been currently.

What is it with Sony exclusives always bringing some heated discussions and passionate opinions in every thread.

There is some great bingo card material to be found.

Specifically Far Cry 3/4/Primal than 2.

Frankly, I think because Horizon's Enemy design is so far above the Far Cry Games it'll be a superior title pretty handily, but there are a lot of aspects shared between the two much like there are a number of aspects shared between Far Cry and Zelda.

Nioh is only interesting for those that likes those types of games (me), it won't be a big seller. Horizon is the main next thing that's suposed to sell a lot and with a broad appeal. That brings more people with different agendas.

I want to explore these beautiful ruins:

They are unique. You're not going to find a big Watcher, etc.

I loved Farcry Primal and so hope it IS like Farcry in some respects. That's what blows my mind. It's been touted as a bad thing and it really isn't.

Zelda and Mass Effect come out in the same timeframe but there hasnt been too many gameplay videos. Naturally there should be questions about that.

Horizon on the other hand has been very open with releasing a good amount of videos before release. So far everyone who has played the game has not nothing but positive things to say. Which leads me to wonder why so many people are so concerned about Horizon or trying to start "conversations"

Generally speaking, people do 'engage' these people in discussion in thread 1, in thread 2, in thread 3, in thread 4, in thread 5 ... and then there comes a point when you have to ask: Haven't all your concerns already been answered in the previous threads? Which leaves us with only two conclusions: Amnesia or Trolling. There is an outside chance that amnesia is the culprit though.
Oh, yeah I'm not at all defending those who continue to repeat themselves with the same complaint and ignore all the actual reason they were given.

\It is not false, I like how you never elaborated. he animations are counter-intuitive to player control, and there are the same 20-3 fighting animation...period. The new controls were not just for walking, they were universal across the entire game and all actions and movement, which includes fighting.
This is still false. The reaction speed is for momentum and thus affected movement more than anything. Combat is still dynamic based on distance, skillset (and then whether you are tapping or holding the buttons), and how you are moving.

Thank you for your insightful response.
Sorry Som but you're in the wrong on this one. You are seeking a lot of things beyond the combat that have been mentioned in a large part of the previews, including stuff they talk about but were not allowed to record.

It's so weird this comments only appear on horizon threads, while on zelda we get "second coming of jesus" praise posts. Lol.

Game has mechanics appropriate to it's genre. It's common sense. Add to that the amazing art and the interesting character and lore. But no, muh rehash game, muh ubisoft game.

Zelda games are mechanically pretty diverse. I think people are just a little wary because Guerilla's resume is a controversial or at least inconsistent regarding plain quality. Taking prior games as a reference as to what quality to expect sounds perfectly legitimate and reliable enough.

Oh yeah totally. But at least during the summer things will slow down a bit and give me a chance to get through horizon

Same shit happens in Nintendo threads. It's not just Sony it's just typical console wars bullshit

You and me both, personally I wanna see this robo-teradactyle.

The only other robo-flyer other than the robo-bird confirmed in Horizon.

Because they can't play it like the press or other people did and can't wait anymore so they/we have to talk about it, but the truth is... we have not much else to discuss at this point, we just need the game.
