Counting only matches against mayo, I believe I've got 8-5. I did my push for wins before becoming Ketchup Queen, Team Ketchup.

Now to spend my time with Salmon Run while it's still up.

how about high tide and 2 eels that clip through one another protecting each other's week points, two flyfish, a steelhead and a couple of random cars for good measure

Just got a Switch! Finally!

So I've been playing some of this game, having only played the single player of the first one, really. Loving it already, but I have some issues:

-I can barely find a game in the online mode (splatfest?). Is this because I chose ketchup and there's no Mayo players? I mean, the game is just out, it should be full of players right? Out of five attempts four times my team fills up immediately and the other team never does. The one game I got into was ketchup vs ketchup so I'm not sure how any of this works.
-How the hell do you jump to a teammate?
-How do you recenter your view in handheld mode? Pressing Y only does anything if you're looking at the floor. I want to look into the sky then recenter my view and it won't let me.

Game feels very similar to the first so far, I can totally see where the Splatoon 1.5 criticism came from... same shops, same single player layout and similar opening levels. Fortunately I loved the first game and didn't play it much so that's okay by me. There's no doubt that the removal of the second screen hurts this game quite a bit. Wii U retrospectively redeemed...

Also, loving the Off the Hook concert thing. Is that always on, or is it because there's a splatfest on? Pearl is one hideous little gremlin but her part in the song is awesome. I miss the old shop themes though.

Don't be ridiculous, that would never happen.

You forgot the Drizzler on the other side of the map behind all the enemies.

Nintendo can honestly shove that "Your last play session ending early was PREEETY SUSPICIOUS" message up their butt. Not my fault that online play is unstable sometimes.

GOOD MORNING SPLATFEST

i still hold that flyfish are the most bullshit enemy right now, but steel eels that wrap around themselves or two steel eels in a row so you get to the end of one and there's another eel jammed up its arse with its invincible hitbox protecting it are pretty bad

not only that but the steeleel hitbox retains right up to the point where it pops, meaning you can be splatted by a eel that's already dead

It's because of Splatfest. Way more ketchup players than mayo players. It's also giving the matchmaking servers strain.
-How the hell do you jump to a teammate?
Press X to bring up the map, each teammate has an arrow by their icon on the map, hold that direction on the d-pad and mash A until you jump.
-How do you recenter your view in handheld mode? Pressing Y only does anything if you're looking at the floor. I want to look into the sky then recenter my view and it won't let me.
The game doesn't allow you to recenter outside of a certain range of angles for some reason. The highest you can hold the system and recenter is just shy of 90 degrees vertical. To see this hold the system vertical, then rapidly tap Y and slowly tilt the system away from you, you'll see when recenter kicks in.

The lack of second screen really only hurts for recon purposes (and Inkstrike - RIP)

It's because of the Splatfest. Same thing happened in the first game with the Squid Sisters.

i got it once in a teams league match where i would have no reason to ever abandon my friends and the game forcibly disconnected me right before the lobby started the match

its my only disconnect actually on record

trivially blasted my way all the way up to mayo king, didn't ever have losing streaks.
one thing i so don't understand anymore is splatfest power and the rewards for winning

it seemed during my placement matches i went upwards from 4+2 -> 5+2 -> 6+2 -> 7+2 for wins, which should correlate to something like 1000+ 1800+ 1900+ 2000+
but i was constantly getting completely inconsistent 5+2 7+2 6+2 randomly if i was going up or down. Is it based on the team's ranking that you're fighting with or against now or something?

what they really needed to fix with splatfest was the fact you're still only earning fucking 2 points for a loss which means if you get stuck with bad teammates over and over you can take hours and hours and hours of losses even to get to 50/50 aka champion

steel eels need a nerf of some kind, literally the only thing that can deal with their bullshit in high tide is a stringray and you need to save your stingrays if you rolled that for all the wave 3 flyfish spam that always happens because there is zero fucking chance your teammates have that much spare ink to give two bombs to every fly fish

successfully reflecting drizzler's missile should always do the quickkill or at least act as an explosion on small mobs / other bosses if it doesnt start reflecting back at drizzler.

i think if you could shoot through some parts of the steel eel's "wall" of inkfountains (maybe they could turn into like traincar enemies with some sections being just bars you can pass as a squid and some being the fountain lazerjets) or maybe if they didn't cover the ground they were passing over and only actually 'floated' or maybe if the driver was very tall and you could aim up and over the eel's body and getting the eel to go back and forth like a game of snake would curl up the body so you'd get easier shots on the guy at the back

it feels like its not enough with the steel eels that despite the mouth being a great weakpoint its just an impervious hitbox and that when you do quickly kill them they still keep driving for another several seconds

everything else is manageable by multiple supers but you can have a steel eel completely trap you and encircle you and use inkjet and die on your way up or splashdown and do no damage to it like how scrappers completely ignore splashdowns that aren't PERFECTLY behind them. maybe they should have a minimum turning radius and their ground ink reduced so you can get 'trapped inside' them and still kill them without getting bumped by little guys but not just get caught tighter and tighter and tighter and get killed with no remorse.
if we could squid jump in salmon run at least then we'd be able to jump out of the steel eel's encirclement

Yeah.

Its already a somehat annoying grind to level up.

But the game is very punishing for a loss. Deserve far more points.

My fantasy for a fixed Splatfest was more rewards for indvidual acheivement
if the winning right now are 24 / 18 for hitting king / queen

i wanted it to be something like 16 for winning team / 14 for losing team
1 snail for playing or winning 10 matches with 3 different weapons, 4 snails for reaching each rank you can level up, 1 snail for achieving the highest ink on your team in a match, 1 snail for achieving the highest splats or supers or something like that etc

little goals so you're not just told "oh hey, you spent 2 hours (all wins) / 5 hours (all losses) on this splatfest? Well, we flipped a coin and it came up heads/tails so we decided you now get 18 snails instead of 24.

The option to play with friends and better influence one of the 3 categories was nice but you need a whole fucking team of 4 and if i have them all together theyd rather play salmon run. I also did like that they finally tried to solve the problem with completely arbitrary multiplications on winrate and population and just make it a 3 category system either or

Is it just me or is the difficulty on Salmon Run raised? You seem to get much more brutal early waves than I remember. I'm struggling to keep in Profreshional.

So wait, do we know how many snails they'll be giving out at the end of the day?

Just had the best comeback ever.

Team Ketchup was kicking our butts. We were even for the first minute, then the team wiped except me, and we got pushed back to base. We spent the rest of the match being back into the corner and it seemed we lost. Literally in the last 45 seconds, I got my special off and killed two people. That gave my team the opening to pushed and ink as much has we could. We ended up winning 47.7 to 43.4. I know Team Ketchup is kicking themselves for blowing it at the last second.

It still increases i think when your pay raise gets higher and higher.

No, I know that, but I was getting well up into the higher 200s before, and now I'm struggling to cut it at all in Profreshional. I feel like they upped the difficult of the first two waves.

I have my Philips Hue lights flashing red and cream throughout my apartment. This is the most immersion I've ever felt in a video game haha. Feels like a Wrestling Arena.

Just had another match where the Ketchups were kicking our butts and then we managed to comeback literally in the last minute. They also had a godly Aero user on their team who was a jumping, making him a pain to hit and he single-handedly wiped our team, twice.

Seriously, what is up with you arrogant tomatoes blowing it in the last minute? This is honestly like the fourth time we won a match that we got butt raped in for the first two minutes.

Just called it quits for the night. 25/25 so not great, but at least I didn't let team Mayo down too much. Had a bunch of fun but right now I am so over red and pale yellow. I know that my dreams tonight are gonna be in those colours :(

One thing I really missed, being able to keep the same team if no one dropped, especially you get a nice crew and you just roll. Now, you get a different team every time, making things seem like personable.

Oh they dropped that feature?

That was one of the best things about Splatfests.

But I suppose it was far too easy to get a team that could easily steamroll the competition.

It felt so good to find "that" team that just steamrolled everything in sight and everyone sticking around despite the occasional loss.

Man, went on a ten win winning streak, my longest yet, and it came to an end since the game decided that I will never win on Moray Towers since every time I go there they pair me with a team that is far superior to my own. Seriously, just about all my loses in this Splatfest came from there.

Second Tower Control session for me since launch thanks to the rule rotation. Also whoever use Aerospray MG in this mode didn't want to win at all. Please, to all squids who never played Splatoon 1, do your teammates a favor, don't use Aerospray in Tower Control and Rainmaker.

What the? Ive had a few games now where the connection has dropped out. I just got a message after the last drop out that 'you've dropped out of a few games now, if it keeps happening we'll have to block you for awhile'

The fuck is this shit Nintendo? Im getting a shit connection and they are registering this as my fault?
