Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

I think it's sad that people are discounted as fanatics just because they're not bothered by the same things as other people.

What's the motivation behind that kind of reductionism, if you don't mind sharing.

The problem is the notion that criticism should be ignored unless wholly validated by the biggest fans.

The folks who drop Destiny after 2 hours can have valid criticisms and praises just as much as someone who has put in 1000 hours into the first game.

I don't care about the fact that he's critical, or dislike him personally, I dislike everything about what he's doing with the format. In fact I hate it. As a result I hate anyone who does it in general (this includes "positive Destiny clickbait" too, agree or disagree), not him in particular. All this stuff you're saying plays exactly into his strategy on YouTube

All of this is by design. He names the video something clickbaity, puts even more controversial phrasing into the thumbnail in huge font, gets you to click, rants for 10+ minutes about something he doesn't like, the algorithm favors his videos. He is leveraging a system to maximize viewership and thus ad revenue.

Even if all of his criticisms were both valid and I agreed with them all (I take major issue with several, and am more sympathetic to others including stuff that has been cited in this thread today), he is negating the value of all of that by playing to the negative preconceptions general audiences may have or, even worse, those that mostly enjoy "hate-playing" games. It's toxic. Even if good content can be found within the clickbait, it is by nature a negative enterprise.

An example of someone who has a lot of criticisms of the game, but offers them constructively and doesn't take part in these tactics would be TheJez, and I think his content is also generally much better for it.

I totally agree with all of this, by the way. I just understand why he's doing that and don't hate him for it, as he now has his Youtube shtick that's making him money and has to stick with it. Not going to fault him for looking out for his revenue stream. Youtube hasn't exactly been easy on content creators lately.

At the same time, I find myself agreeing with most of his criticisms (regardless of how he makes them). I don't necessarily agree with the "difficulty level" criticisms of his new video, which I haven't watched, but all the previous ones resonate with a good % of the player population.

A lot of the people liking his videos are long time players. Nothing wrong with that.

What about turning in vendor tokens? Arekkz seem to suggest that he did get some packages over the 265 soft cap.

After you are 265 or above, Vendor tokens will also level up with you, but they'll ALWAYS be 5-7 light below your level, unless you get lucky and get them to drop with Legendary Mods fitted into them. So, Vendor tokens, AFTER 265 are basically for diversifying your arsenal, while before 265, they're supposed to help with your light leveling.

Raids can give you basically nothing for defeating bosses, but you have to be really unlucky with the current system to not get anything of value. Raids almost always have some unique exotic weapons and weapon and armour sets. Taken King expansion even had an exotic quest that had to be finished within the quest and the new raid also has an exotic quest that will be finished only in the raid itself.

The strike economy is poor right now. You get just as good if not better rewards from pub events. You can bounce around pub events with a loot boost active. Spending an hour doing that vs. strikes.. the pubs will get your more of everything.

You so miss out on vanguard tokens though.

Yup. Luckily all the gear looks phenomenal for Titan class, to me at least, so I am highly motivated to do pretty much all activities.

But right now Crucible and Strikes definitely need a reward adjustment. They just don't reward as much for the time you put in as Destination Activities.

Nah, it's just to save you putting them all in manually.

Random exotic engrams from doing anything, or weekly Milestones.

Ah, knew I'd have to return to the grind sooner or later...

Yeah, I don't agree with that side of the reductionism either.

Totally agree with the second part.

Well I figured I would post and say that I am actually enjoying the crucible right now. I thought I was going to hate it but it isnt that bad.

I hated all of the instakills in D1 so this has been a breath of fresh air for me. I still think 4v4 is too few players but I can get used to it. 4 doesnt make a lot of sense though as everything in the game is design to be for sets of 3 players.

Ok this is going to sound like such a noob question but i spent 3 hours on the normal strikes last night, so that's about 6 strikes in all. My problem comes with after all that my power level has only increased by 4! the loot that i get from the strikes themselves are always lower and anything i get from Zevala is pretty poor to.

Am i doing something wrong?
What level are you at?

Strikes are usually fine for getting upgrades, but thing is 6 strikes in 3 hours means each one took you about a half hour, which is waaay longer than any given strike should take. You are better off running Public Events, Adventures, Lost Sectors etc. on planets if you want to pull it up quicker. :)

I dont think anyone answered your question but yes everyone gets something for each boss/stage that you complete in a D1 raid.

In the past the loot tables were different for each boss/stage (boots from these couple boss, helmet from this boss to a point, the weapons were sometimes boss specific as well)

If there is a raid exotic there will likely only be 1 and it might not be a drop. It likely will require a questline after a drop to complete the build of the exotic.

Awesome, thanks!

While I still may have your attention....those loot buff tokens, does the 4 hour time toll even when offline?

What's the best/fastest way to level an alt?

In order to get to Level 20, just do all the story missions as quickly as you can. If you get stuck due to level caps on missions, do public events. Once the story is complete, if you talk to Zavala, you'll automatically level up to 20 even if you're way below it. Do note that you'll have wasted that exotic engram if you open it at such a low level. Anyway, after level 20, just transfer over your high level weapons from main character and your grind should be reduced significantly.

Awesome, thanks!

The timer continues to count down even if you're offline. It's a real-time buff.

Thanks for answering guys. Sounds like it's the standard Mmo system, which is fine by me.

Absolutely. Anyone who isn't enjoying themselves has valid reason to express why, no matter how they're approaching it.

No individual criticism should be ignored. I think a corollary is just that different things are going to bother different people different amounts, and there's essentially a zero chance of pleasing everyone simultaneously with any given choice.

where are my 229 power, 1 character people who have families and lives outside of gaming? Woot woot!
Even if the vocally active on GAF paint a different picture, there are TONS, don't worry XD

Not for every game...he's an "old school" gamer and really seems to despise the cookie cutter, heavily group tested design philosophy of a lot of modern games. He mentioned that in one of his D1 videos.

He takes an aggressive angle talking about Destiny and Battlefield 1, true. He also seems to genuinely like Overwatch, at least OW competitive.

The three games he critiqued on the videos page that I saw were Battlefield 1, CoD, and Destiny 2. And every one of those games had multiple negative titles. It's like shock-jock vlogging.

I was really hoping we'd get the Diablo-like "greater rift" replayable areas in D2, but maybe in a future DLC.

And I really hope we don't. Randomly generated mob fest activities are not fun gameplay for me and I feel like if Destiny went that direction, it would be changing what Destiny is, at its base level. For gameplay like that, there's Warframe.

Can't wait to try out the Raid this eve. whole crew is pretty much ready. I'm sitting at 285 with a Borealis from the nightfall yesterday. Wish i had a scout rifle to infuse my Skyburners oath up to something i could use in the raid...

Hope this joint lives up to expectations!

I hope there's still people looking to Raid. >w>

Gonna try and get a blind Raid team up for when it hits (PS4);

1: Me (PSN: TiemenMeijer)
2: TheMostHumanAI
3: Harlan_Ryudo
4: mientjan

One think I do realllly hope they invest in for the live team is new Public events in each space every so often. I really enjoy them and would like to see the variety increase and/or themed ones around in-universe events.

As long as they all end with Ghost going "HYAH!!"

That's the best thing that's ever happened in Destiny. I want Byf to make a 30 minute video about it.

Lost Sector's and Adventures are what I'd like to see added over time. That will go a long way towards making the world feel more alive.

ran about 10 Public Events in a row (all but one Heroic)...have not gotten even 1 piece of gear that is useful...it's all been at my level or lower...that's even with using a medallion to get a chance at better drops

was 261 before all these...still 261 after...haven't even moved up one notch into 262

I am still trying to figure out what Destiny IS. I am enjoying myself, but it is pretty highly scripted. It's PSO-like nature is addicting but shaking things up might not be a bad thing down the line.

Anyway, my current power level is 271 and man, it's like slowly pushing a wall right now.
