Alright, I just finished the demo. My thoughts on the game so far...

Opening:
vince-mcmahon-dumb-meme-shps71tdnn34apgy.gif

"Huh, why is this even here? Seems kinda redundant, the story should've just started at the young Clive section..."

Story setup and characters:
vince-mcmahon-wwe.gif

"Hmm, this seems pretty okay so far"

Big tentacle monster fight:
GreenUnfinishedHarrierhawk-max-1mb.gif

"Oh hey, this is getting pretty good, I like this combat system"

The knight fight:
hd7rC6V.gif

"Oh man, this combat system is RAD! Also, pretty engaging story so far."

Big kaiju monster fight:

"I need to change my underwear..."

Oh, and also:

You basically mirrored my experience. Emphasis on the turbo-cunt. She's a real piece of shit!

They did take the rings off and go play the game.
Did he say he had the rings on or something? The game is definitely very easy. But FF usually is so I try not to hold it against it. VII Remake was much better/enjoyable on hard, hopefully this is too. Though I don't know if I I will feel the inherent desire to replay this yet.

I'm going to play through NG+ on hardmode just to get some of the new equipment. Especially the sword.

I'm starting to think I got over leveled at some point somehow. I just got the fourth eikon but everything I'm encountering I notice is like 4-6 levels below me. Is it because I do all the side quests? I definitely don't go out of my way otherwise for extra encounters.

Not equipping any. Most of us I've seen here aren't equipping any rings and the game is still a cakewalk. Hell, I'm intentionally not even upgrading my equipment to add some challenges and still breezing through it.

Praise SE all you want for "giving NG+ for free and at launch", but the game should have had a hard mode at launch and I think it's fair they get criticized for that. This is something which they'll probably add later like they did afterwards for KH3 and DQ11 after many people complained how easy those games were.

It's not about it being free it should be expected but it has been lost in this cut everything for future content industry. I am at the very last area and only have the chronolith trials to finish before beating the boss. There were some things that were challenging and some things that werent. Just like any other game. I had a few S rank fights and side quest bosses that were an issue. Trash mobs are just fodder just like every other game.

So game promps me that I've reached a pivotal story moment and there's no turning back. Do some side quests become missable if I proceed?

I think I've done them all so far, my map is clear, but just wanna be sure.

There is no reason to add something in an update when its already in the game.

Is there a catch with that ring? I just obtained it yesterday and tried a couple of times but it seems like a big boost for just a ring, maybe the flame hits do more damage but less stagger?

Also maybe people could get bored of that little animation after every perfect evade.
It gives you the same combo you get from a Limit Break and it's power increases the more times you evade in each specific battle. Whether people get bored of the animation is subjective, I find it badass and empowering 👌

Use the Burning Blade attack for parries. It has a long wind up but it clashes with enemies attacks expanding your window to parry significantly.
I'd say it depends on what you're doing. Burning blade if you're actively waiting for a big enemy hit. Learning the timing on regular attacks is better if you play aggressively. I also always keep at least one or two parry/evade abilities in my rotation for oh shit moments.

Here we go welcome

Fuck. Quite literally nothing else to do now… except going straight for the final dungeon.

Also funny enough I used the gil+ xp+ and ap+ accessories throughout the entire game. Never changed from them, thinking I would do it when the big challenges come. They… didn't. I guess they're saving themselves for NG+ challenge.

I really didn't know this game was basically action-oriented with role-playing elements. I figured it had some kind of turn-based elements mixed in with action elements but it seems like it's more focused on action.

I've never played a Final Fantasy game quite like that before so this has me interested.

Does that new Crisis Core Reunion game play like that?

Me and misses have been 100%ing the game so far and we got to the point-of-no-return in the game only to be BOMBARDED with like 15 green side quests.

MMMmmm, my favorite pacing! Love it!

The problem is these quests seem to have pretty good endings for characters, but you have to get through 20+ mins of people talking with there hands hovering at their sides to get to it. Sometimes you might fight a single pack of monsters if your lucky.

The other issue is some of the marks with items to craft your endgame gear are not locked behind quests, but locked behind you visiting the area first in a quest, and there's no way to tell which ones are important or not.

But yes my first thought was "why couldent some of these have been reworked to happen earlier" when we only got like 3 side quests for the entire part of the game. I honestly got put off by the sea of green, and I have done about half of them now (maybe I keep getting new side quests mailed to me when I clear other specific ones) but I'm taking a break because they feel so monotonous.

Yes when you get that warning you will not be able to go back to the side quest. I made that mistake.

In a way, yeah. Crisis Core is all real time also, it's a pretty good action game IMO. I wouldn't play it unless you've beaten VII though (if you care about the plot).

It is dated in some design mechanics it was obviously a portable game from back when, but I've always liked the game and the remaster/remake/whatever it is is even better than before.

You can watch youtube before you buy it.

I like the game but I really hope that the next FF is more RPG again!!
I hope for them to take the best from this game and add more classic RPG from the other FFs to create the perfect game. The boss fights and combats are already great but could improve with elemental damage, more damage for Perrys/Counters and critical moves. The enemies should be less damage spongy and have more strike/attack patterns. Also, they should 100% keep the boss fight quality because it's the best in the business.

Yeah the lack of elemental affinity/weaknesses is baffling to me.

Oh hey, you killed a major boss? Great job, Clive!
Now run around the base in circles, speaking to npcs one by one. Such a great winddown, right?

Unironically yes. This game has problems but pacing isn't one of them lol the laid back quests are almost all optional.

There was an area maybe 3-5 hours in that just dragged awfully for me... Other than that the pacing has been pretty excellent and I enjoy doing most of the side quests! They just get better and better mostly.

Well, at least you're enjoying this transition into a pure action game.

FF XV had just as much action. What made it more RPG than FF XVI? Pausing the action to use magic or some sidekick ability? Other than that, the meat and potatoes of attacking, dodging and etc. were pretty much the same. Just worse, more automatic and way less satisfying.

I love FF VII R, but again, same shit: if it wasnt for the pause to use magic/abilities/items, it would be pretty much the same. Using shortcuts for abilities in FF VIIR pretty much ditches the ATB, and makes the combat just as much action oriented as XVI, just not nearly as satisfying in terms of player input.

Square have been making FF as action "RPGs" for a long time now. They just said "fuck it" to the half assed ATB system of FF VII R and FF XV and thank God for that.

Really enjoying this game, I like that it's not a full open world. Those games are getting so exhausting. We need more AAA linear games that have good gameplay and a great story just like this one.

Just finished a side quest on the sand map and after 20 minutes running around, collecting stones, the quest giver say that made me do this for nothing, geez.

Any time a side quest make me lost time for nothing i lost interest in doing this kind of content.

Very much so, although I do have a ton of negative things to say about it as well.

Summarizing my thoughts as we speak, will post tomorrow!

I never played the original Crisis Core but would like to try out the Switch version.

This game is so damn good, I don't want it to end. Some of the highest audio visual mindfucks I've experienced in a video game. :messenger_loudly_crying: Guessing I'm halfway.
Just destroyed the crystal at the Iron Kingdom and then learnt Rosaria is under attack from Hugo.
Switched it off there and will pick it up tomorrow.

There's a lot of things absent in this game that were a recurrent part of the mainline Final fantasy entries. The thing this game has mostly got in common with Final fantasy is the roman numeral next to the title.

Some parts make me question if the guys behind it detest the series for what it is or intentionally went against almost everything that it stood for.

Game of Thrones XVI: The God of War is what the game should be called.

This is the best vídeo on the matter, " this game just has the name of Final Fantasy " grown up already.

It's okay to like or not like any FF game (or any game at all). Having preferences doesn't make you more or less of a fan. Nobody needs anybody else's permission to consider themselves a fan or a series or to feel a certain way about art. Full stop.

Boring take. Sure Game of Thrones depicted a brutal medieval world and so does XVI, but so what? The dev team executed it incredibly well. I can't see many other studios pulling it off as well as they have. If they could, then where are these games? The world feels as FF as ever to me and I'd put it up there with FF7, 8, 9, 10 and 12, which I think felt as alive as this. XIII and XV failed in this regard.

They were inspired by God of War large scale boss fights or high intensity boss fights and why is that a problem exactly? They've taken the template and beat it. Fits right in with how you always imagined the characters fighting these bosses as a kid on older FF games.

I like the combat in this game OK, it's acceptable but I totally disagree with the comparison to VIIR. To me that is the superior system. Maintains a party, control of that party in a way that compromises between old and new. To me there's nothing more satisfying than that hybrid ATB of swapping around from character to character, prepping Tifas triangle move (upgrading it) as I slowly get ready for mega stagger while making sure everyone else is max ATB, dropping the stagger swapping to Tifa to bring the multiplier sky high, flipping around to Cloud or whoever and buffering in my special attacks or choosing which magic for them to cast for maximum damage at the moment of stagger.

Like I say, the combat in XVI is enjoyable and not saying you can't like or prefer it, but VII R is "better" for me and more satisfying overall.

I was down on the combat system before but just the sheer amount of stuff they throw at you is amazing. It just keeps building up. Just got the Berserker Ring and when I did my first precision dodge....

Story is going well so far. Hope it keeps up.

Sony have their work cut out for the next God of War. FFXVI is everything Ragnarok should have been.

Just wanna say

Barnabas is so fucking powerful wtf? Its the first time Clive is totally powerless so far besides Ultima and even then he beat Typhoon

U can hate or not like a FF game, it dosnt make less Final Fantasy. Full Stop.

Just finished the "gotta go fast fight" and Jesus, what a fight, this game is exactly what i wanted from God of War, the production value, scale and spectacle shown here you won't find in any other game to date this gen.

I can't even imagine what they are saving for the next fight.

Just amazing

7re IS the perfected version of atb, I am surprise of how simmilar it felt to the classic atb
real time doesn not change that.

I've been pretty down on this game overall, but I just did my first S rank hunt at about 10 levels under, and I had a lot of fun with it.
