Alinea Analytics: Final Fantasy XVI sold 22,000 copies on Xbox

I hope Microsoft paid them to release the game on their platform. Or maybe its coming to gamepass soon-ish?

FF7R better be a banger for them on Xbox but given the support 16 is getting I cannot see that happening.

Where are all the butthurt Xbox fans now who were claiming that foregoing xbox was the reason the game underperformed?!?

WTF are these sales?!?!

Xbox games sales are complete shit.... GamePass really fucked publishers on the platform.

I love how Alinea is credible or fake news depending on what they're saying

They are getting shit from folks on twitter for saying they used review numbers as reference points:

How the hell are the number of reviews a "reference point" for anything? These guys are a joke.

Wonder how many copies Final Fantasy VII Remake will sell on Xbox if it's not on Gamepass, because it's quite obvious that Xbox owners are no longer interested in buying games.

And don't start with the "will wait till it's free on gamepass". Nothing is free on gamepass, stop paying and you can't play shit. Same as "free" on PS Plus. Once the sub ends you can't play anyone of those "free" monthly games
I don't have gamepass and I plan on buying remake even though I have it on pc. This one though, nah not interested.

It shadow dropped last week and I am tapped out of my June gaming budget. Perhaps in July I will pick it up, but I don't just throw money at my console when something comes out unannounced.

87/100 Metacritic and 84/100 user review scores, and suddenly the game became "trash" just because Xbox gamers (as usual) didn't buy it. lol

Don't forget the PlayStation store ratings (where you need to own the game):

The idea that FF16 was not well received is nothing but cope from terminally online nerds who are out of touch with reality.

A two year old Final Fantasy entry which probably is one of the weakest in the history of the IP, released almost at full price, only digital. Yep, I guess SE expected hundreds of thousands of units sold in a week.
Like Forza Horizon 5 on PS5? Or Sea of Thieves on PS5? And like Gear of War will do on PS5?

Square-Enix did the right call porting the game. After all, there are dozens of us... DOZENS!!!!

I really liked the game, i dont understand where these ppl caslling the game trash are coming from, but its the best main FF game since the PS2. You can argue that is not a good RPG, or not a good Final Fantasy, but it is a pretty good game with a very satisfying action combat system (Once you equip the Titan skill for block/ counter attack) and some sick boss battles and setpieces. Also one of the best FF main characters and pretty nice story as well.

Yea I've given up on trying to defend the game. I loved it and got the plat. Sure it has issues but over I enjoyed it.

And PSN ratings only let ppl with the digital version of the game, rate it. I have the physical version and cant rate the game on the PS Store.

Nope. Hence why no one on Xbox is playing it. Once they need to buy something instead of renting it, they won't do it. Microsoft has conditioned its userbase to wait for games to appear on gamepass to play them.
You are right I want to say it would have been better to put it on a Nintendo switch 2 but with that user base they hardly buy anything outside of Nintendo games. Even though FF7 remake released on it when the system launched and we haven't heard anything about it.

These 'sales' estimates are derived from USER REVIEW COUNT?

fucking lol. I thought Alinea did their estimates based on some kind of internal store reporting or something.

Out of curiosity I just checked that 3,777 TrueAchivements users have unlocked at least one achievement in the game. That is already a pretty good indicator that a lot more than just 22K people have bought it. For comparison's sake 663K TA users have unlocked at least one achievement in Forza Horizon 5 and we all know tens of millions have played it.

Keep weaving whatever narrative you want.

Xbox consumers are non existent.

If I'm a developer I won't even bother making a game for this abandoned hardware unless it's call of duty or fifa.

Fucking ps4 games sell more than Xbox series x. And yes, ps4, not ps5.

Xbox is a joke. Ditch the series S and X entirely there's nothing to gain monetary wise here unless you grab the Xbox gamepass bag because you know no one will buy an actual copy.

I hope this causes them to put remake and rebirth day 1 on gamepass because those games aren't selling either.

in what dimension would a FF game have sold a million copies on launch day on xbox? In fact name a single XBOX game this gen that has sold a million copies on launch day on xbox. ANd please cite a source.
Call of duty if that counts? Elden ring for third parties. But yeah, that'd be a sad list.

People arguing about the veracity of the number are missing the point entirely. This is in the realm of "Viral Marketing," just as a Twitter post stating players reached/engaged. It's funny because Phil was the one saying viral marketing was going to create FOMO. I think the vast majority of games on Xbox have had awful "viral marketing". Regardless, it's clear that the game didn't sell 3M copies either (which is garbage, right?). Oh boy, this "cycle of violence" can't keep going. If Xbox wants publishers to release games on its platform, this constant blame-shifting onto the platform, business model, and its consumers has to stop. Is it going to?....nah, they are fucked.

I wonder why the fuck gamesindustry.biz was citing them like their numbers are real. I also wonder why they would present numbers like they're facts and not estimates. I knew these guys were frauds when they first popped up and I looked at their website which was slapped together in 20 mins on SquareSpace.

Probably because gamesindustry is ultimately just another video game news outlet like the rest and this is easy clickbait. Only a handful of actual data analysts are newsworthy and that's because they get data directly and only for a specific region such as Circana.

Shocking. Xbox fans do not buy or support games and this was WELL before Gamepass and Gamepass conditioned them even further to not buy games. I expected FF16 to perform poorly on XBOX, but not this poor especially for a major title with a budget price.

also aren't they now owned by IGN?

Don't know why people are laughing at the folks pointing out that it launched at too high a price point.

If someone has both systems, why would they want to spend $50 for the base game on Xbox when they could get it for half that on PS5? If someone only has an Xbox, why would they want to spend $50 when the PS5 version price basically tells them there's going to be deep sales eventually?

I digress. People are blaming Game Pass and I'm sure that plays a role but let's not also forget that Final Fantasy games sold abysmally on the platform long before Game Pass was a thing. I remember the "One Last Thing..." surprise at E3 2008 when Final Fantasy XIII was announced to simultaneously release for X360 and PS3. People at the Microsoft showcase were ecstatic and the gaming press was losing their minds that Final Fantasy was finally coming to Xbox! Then FF13 went on to sell the lowest on the Xbox platform despite that being the generation Xbox was in closest competition with PlayStation.

Since then it's been the same old story whether it's been Final Fantasy or other S-E RPGs like Octopath Traveler. They've performed the worst on Xbox platforms. I know it's a practically a meme at this point but, by and large, the Xbox audience doesn't care for JRPGs.

So shit sales like on PC

Its as if that if you miss the day 1 FOMO and your game is truely crud outside of the demo that hyped everyone up that word of mouth goes around and peoples skip on it? Uh

It's a mixture bro. Mid game launching after launch hype and a userbase that's been conditioned not to buy games.
If stellar blade also launched on Xbox this week not in gamepass it also wouldn't have sold on this platform.

Just look at any 3rd party game launching on all systems simultaneously. Sales are next to non existent on Xbox. Even the Devs for Clair obscure were smart enough to realise this and took the gamepass money.

It sold ~650k on PC, which is a far cry from 22,000 on Xbox

At 2 months it was 289k estimated

God knows what in a week. Overall not setting any world on fire and of course, by S-E metrics, a disappointment

Because square enix acted like the xbox platform was going to magically produce a million to two million sales for this game and it was never going to happen. Xbox gamers simply don't buy games like nintendo/playstation guys and relying on the xbox platform to make a profit sales wise is fools gold. It's just a fact at this point. They should've struck a gamepass deal and called it a day.

Edit: I do think ff15 and ff16 suck ass and i stand by that.

if they released it day 1 on PC and Xbox it would have sold way better.

bad word of mouth meant that it bombed both on PC and Xbox.
it's now known to be mediocre at best, that wasn't the case when it was fresh on the market. back then it still had some hype around it.

there's nothing worse than launching a game that has a bad reputation late on another system. this has nothing to do with Xbox... the game's trash, that's why it didn't sell. unless you want to also claim PC players don't buy games, which is demonstrably wrong... yet it bombed there too.

FF7 will sell way better
