Don't know why people are laughing at the folks pointing out that it launched at too high a price point.
If someone has both systems, why would they want to spend $50 for the base game on Xbox when they could get it for
half that on PS5? If someone
only has an Xbox, why would they want to spend $50 when the PS5 version price basically tells them there's going to be deep sales eventually?
I digress. People are blaming Game Pass and I'm sure that plays
a role but let's not also forget that Final Fantasy games sold abysmally on the platform long before Game Pass was a thing. I remember the "
One Last Thing..." surprise at E3 2008 when Final Fantasy XIII was announced to simultaneously release for X360 and PS3. People at the Microsoft showcase were ecstatic and the gaming press was losing their minds that Final Fantasy was finally coming to Xbox! Then FF13 went on to sell the lowest on the Xbox platform
despite that being the generation Xbox was in closest competition with PlayStation.
Since then it's been the same old story whether it's been Final Fantasy or other S-E RPGs like Octopath Traveler. They've performed the worst on Xbox platforms. I know it's a practically a meme at this point but, by and large, the Xbox audience doesn't care for JRPGs.
