The OFFICIAL Nintendo Switch 2 reveal! What did we learn?

Gamer79

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
*Keeping the Nintendo Switch name and adding a 2 (They have learned from their past mistakes, WiiU?)
*IMO A really slick Design
*Further displaying it in April so discounts those March release dates. Possibly could fall into holiday 2025.
*Joycons look to have some kind of mouse like feature and indeed are Magnetic
*Leakers have been 100% accurate
*Screen appears much bigger but it is hard to say the way it was shown
*No Price, release date, definitive specs, games, etc are currently known.
*From the partial game that was displayed it looked like the Mario Kart 8 engine. The one thing I did see is there are 24 racers on a track and that is massive.
*The Leaked "C" button?

It will not be a big leap on graphics but just like ps5 (with dual sense) , it will have great features especially the controls.

The trailer hit the opposite of the Switch trailer. But the mehs are turning around into the realization a new Nintendo console is coming after a long 13 year wait.

I kept thinking, this is maybe as boring/safe as Nintendo has ever been. Maybe since the NES > SNES.

Not a bad thing mind you, but it felt like the PS5 Pro announcement.

"Sleeker design, bigger screen, better graphics. I guess I like those things."

I don't think this teaser confirms that there's a magnetic connection for the Joycons. They snap in with a mechanical lock, but from the sides.

Well, given the leaks, the only new thing I learned is that there's a new Mario Kart on the way I think.

We know at last Nintendo has woken up and simply used a nimber to name their new console rather than some abstract and confusing name.

I hope we get some interviews at some point where they discuss the name choice, and maybe what other options they had on the table.

It's such a big departure from how Nintendo usually do things.

Pretty sure they did a very similar thing last time. A stealth trailer showing a new game "Mario Odyssey" briefly. Then a dedicated event showcasing software and some finer points of the actual console and some software. The only difference this time round was Nintendo was not revealing the actual concept in the initial trailer.

Yeah, I just mean the actual name "Switch 2". I'd have thought something like Switch [Insert word] would've been way more likely.

If the name hadn't leaked and someone said Nintendo would call it "Switch 2", I'd have laughed them in the face.

Without a doubt this is a massive departure from Nintendo, but a very welcome one.

We'll see. For better or worse I like quirky Nintendo and their weird/risky ideas.

This is definitely the safe way to go about it though.

We live in a strange timeline where Nintendo have been more conservative with the naming of their next device than Microsoft.

ND: hope you like the third last of us.

Fans: Boooo we want new franchises

The Switch was a just a remaster of Wii U after all.
Wouldn't this be even more of a remaster, or are you talking about the system's power ranking?

That's an interesting point. On the one hand, design wise it's just a Switch, but power-wise it's a whole new generation. The Wii U to Switch has the opposite issue.

We learned that they sell you the exact same unit with better specs.

We learned it will be way less powerfull than a ps5 or series x

We learned that this will release fall this year.

We learned it will be 450 usd.

We learned....nothing

what's the best selling game on Wii U and Switch?

This Nintendo console generation is in its 13th year. ;)

So you're using library overlap to determine generation? I feel like that cuts against your argument more than is supports it.

You wouldn't use this same logic to call the XSX/PS5 remasters of the XB1/PS4 even though they are both backwards compatible, full of cross-gen games, and have remasters of last gen games as some of their best selling titles. And Switch isn't even backwards compatible or built on the same architecture.

Doesn't really make sense.

IT's not library overlap.

IT's the same library.

The different architecture, which was for mobile purposes, and the lack of b/c because of it, is the ~only reason the libraries aren't ~100% the same.

The libraries aren't different because the Switch is a next-gen console. As a black box playing on the tv it's ~literally the same console. ;)

I still hate that neon colour i really hoped they would have shown something else for day one today . Hes hoping it's launched before Christmas i guess we will know In april.

If this hadn't been leaked i guess that was a when they planned to share info deffo dragging their heels with this launch.

I think after April direct they might say in store 2 weeks .

Now lets see what else ends up leaked between then.

The Switch 2 will be at least partially incompatible with the following games, as it no longer has an IR sensor on the right joycon:

GameStateNotes
1/2 SwitchNative support. Used in a sole minigame.
Brain Age/Dr. Kawashima's Brain TrainingNative support. Game asking for proper hand signal as minigame can sense hand motions.
Game Builder GarageNative support. Used for creations.
Night VisionNative support. Works as night vision.
NinjalaNative support. Scans to unlock cosmetics
Nintendo LaboNative support. Works in Labo creations as an optional tool, and allows it to read bits of the Labo cardboard.
Resident Evil RevelationsNative support. Reloads weapon by covering the sensor.
Ring Fit AdventureNative support. Checks the heartrate.
Smile Basic 4Native support. Utilizes IR optionally.
Spy AlarmNative support. Works as a detection kit.
Vitamin ConnectionNative support. Iinteracts with a maze mechanic via distance calculations.

I see what you're saying--too many remasters/ports--but you know that, factually the Switch has lots of games the Wii U doesn't, and there's Wii U software that never made its way to the Switch.

Honestly, you could use this logic to call the PS5 a PS4 remaster, or any generation with backwards compatibility and remasters... but you wouldn't because it's silly.

Glad I don't have any of those games 😂

Curious to see the full list. I expect all the big first party games ( Mario odyssey, Zelda, Pokemon etc) will work fine.

Hopefully.....
