I replayed it in the last year along with both Silent Hill 2 versions and I'm pretty sure it's not tame now by any means, even comparing with other entries.

You know, I've been thinking about this and you're right. It looks rough, but that's understandable considering it's a PS1 title.

However, the game is still a psychological horror masterpiece. The developers masterfully used the hardware to their advantage. The fog hides the console's limitations, but it also adds tension with not knowing what horrors hide in the fog. Not to mention the incredible sound design.

Fuck. That game really is a masterpiece.

Resident Evil was the other big survival horror game of the era, but it's almost comical compared to Silent Hill in the horror department.

They actually do… but you know, monkey's paw and all that, since this new Suikoden they're working on will be a gacha game.

This is exactly what i am saying. If they were to, say, reboot Castlevania, and develop the game by themselves, i need some kind of proof that they're even capable of developing video games, let alone rebooting one of their best IPs. As is, there's nothing that would make me think that they're capable of taking the task.

A lot is riding on silent hill f. That's internal Konami team right?

If that game is good, then there's hope for a castlevania.

I'm a huge Suikoden 1-3 fan, and honestly this new Suikoden game isn't for me but if the sales data is showing the Japanese are the 80-90% that will buy a new entry, then a mobile game IS the best path forward for it.

Even if they made a Suikoden on par with 1&2, but use this kind of art style approach, they are limited in the west in sales.

Look at something like octopath traveler 2 which has high praise and "ok sales", yet Clair 33 which is 3D graphical has really good sales for a jrpg.

Would a Suikoden game with fully 3D characters dropping the anime esthetic sell well? Most likely, but at that point it would need to be a new IP.

I feel like they should write a fat check to neowiz or something and be like "here make us a castlevania"

I am really happy that another remake is announced.

Wonder if it will have a different art design from SH2 remake, considering that SH1 horror also depended on the very PS1 graphics.

With who? All those teams that made those original games are gone...
That's the problem. If they can't create anything now, they won't be able to make anything in the future, but if they're going back into game development, you can be sure they'll be making themselves their newest bigger ip's. So when they do announce a big new game that they'll be in charge of development, hyping said game will be pointless cuz they don't have anyone left for the job. Or maybe they have a bit of talent left? I recall reading somewhere that some important guy that worked on mgs, is still with Konami, and would like to create another mgs title with a Kojima collab.

Resident Evil has always has a slight B-movie cheesiness to it.

While I'm glad they've moved more towards realism and mature horror I hope it never completely loses that aspect from the originals.

Or PC, for that matter. I've wanted to play this game so badly - on either platform - but I'm waiting for it to get fixed first.

I had to use a few custom files to play the game in 60 fps with cut scenes at same pace and fixing ultra wide fov. Was only way to best play for us.

you can spot the comments from people who haven't played the masterpiece that is the SH2 remake a mile away in this very thread.

Bloober levelled up significantly during the development of that game, and I have every faith in them to respectfully expand upon the original horror gem.

Silent Hill 1 is a flawed concept / game, which was perfected by the release of Silent Hill 2, much like Demons Souls was by Dark Souls 1. Both masterpieces, but the original had a lot of less baked systems and story chops.

The cult and characters could be greatly expanded upon lore wise and I look forward to it.

While I love the original SH2, and yes, both are masterpieces, I don't agree it perfected the SH1 basis. The bestiary has far lower variety, the challenge was 'dumbed down', I don't think puzzles took such a big leap and while I wouldn't say the tone and aesthetics change was a bad choice (on the contrary), it's more just different than better or worse. I could say the narrative was actually a real evolution (and it was already good in the first game), just like the voice acting, and some aspects of the controls are more polished...but I don't think SH2 as a whole was such a BIG step on everything.

And I'm just talking about the original, because the pacing and the insane number of enemies and obligatory combat, and watering down the surreal vibe in the remake among other things aren't a improvement for a Silent Hill game by any means.

About lore in the SH1R...well, they better do this, because it will be probably much longer than the original. In fact I almost believe the SH1R can be better than the previous remake just because they won't probably copy almost every dialogue of the original and they have far more enemy variety now thanks to the Team Silent's labor so many years ago.

Why did they do 2 then 1?
Why release Uncharted 4 before (Or ever..) the 1st trilogy on the PC?

That's akin to only being given the third Lord of the rings film and pretending the other two don't exist!

Because they hate us, that's why! They want confusion! Nothing publishers do has ever made any logical sense, ever :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I honestly don't get the thinking either.

This had to happen after the excellent silent hill 2 remake. Played it just a couple of months ago and I was pleasantly surprised just how good it was.

I hope they make a new original silent hill aswell someday.

I do too, but walking the path of the original team first is the way to go and even that doesn't guarantee they'll get it and understand it enough to make a new entry.

This is the reason why i think they should adapt team silents cancelled silent hill 5 that was abandoned in favor of a more western silent hill homecoming. this game;

I'm the biggest fan but I've never beaten the original Silent Hill.

You're missing out. While the execution isn't nearly so good as SH2 I think its got the best story, and is by far the most intense and scary game in the franchise.
To be honest most of its best ideas (the tricks it pulls with the camera to create atmosphere) have never been topped.
