Final Fantasy XVI devs may be hinting at a Switch 2 port

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida and creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro just appeared on a "Letter from the Producer" live-stream to discuss the game's recent arrival on Xbox Series X/S. During part of the discussion, Yoshida says that "just Nintendo's left" in reference to modern platforms where Final Fantasy XVI isn't yet available, to which Maehiro responds by saying he "will do his best."

This isn't a flat-out confirmation of Final Fantasy XVI coming to Switch 2, but Square Enix and the game's team obviously know that fans are watching these videos and will start speculating the moment they make any reference. This little back-and-forth is at least enough to give very slight hope that we could see Final Fantasy XVI arrive on Switch 2 at some point.

if they do this... they have to MASSIVELY adjust the entire makeup of their graphics pipeline... because that game can not run on that T239 in any decent quality in the state it is currently in.

this would need to be a bespoke port that is tailored to the hardware. I'm talking replacing assets, rethinking the lighting and post processing etc.
they would need to do what Hogwarts did for the last gen systems essentially.

because if not, it will look like an absolutely blurry mess, and will run like absolute ass. it's insanely demanding (for no good reason as well).
this game drops the dynamic resolution to 1080p in combat on PS5 in its 30fps mode. and to 720p in its 60fps mode...

FFXVI is a good game. Not what I want from a Final Fantasy JRPG, but I disagree with those acting as if it's a terrible game.

FFXV, was kind of a bad game.

In this case i think is not worth the effort… The games is bad.
I thought the game was really disappointing but let's not make up facts. It still reviewed pretty well and sold several millions on PS5 despite its flaws. No need to make excuses for weak sales numbers on other platforms.

If SE thought it was worth porting to Xbox, then they should bring it to switch 2. Every thread on this game and 7 remake's sales numbers was full of smug fanboys saying SE was clearly killing the franchise by not being on switch, especially in Japan. I think these people should be given the opportunity to put their money where their mouths are.

It's an extremely average game. A strong 7 at best. Game quality aside this will need a lot of work put into it to look halfway decent on the Switch 2, as it is extremely demanding.

Its better than XV but it's like next in line. It's just a very linear experience and abandons pretty much all exploration and has like absolutely no nuance to the combat. It's absolutely gorgeous for the first 10 hours though.

FFXVI had shitty gameplay, it's too bad since everything else was great.
It was fun for a bit, but a little mindless. Something more like FFVII Rebirth would have been perfect.

Hopefully, the popularity of games like Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and Like a Dragon/Infinite Wealth will let them know you are still allowed to make AAA turn-based JRPGs.

Action RPGs sell far more. Elden Ring sold more than 30 million.

The only shitty thing about FF16 were the pointless, dog shit side quests. The core game was great, quit hating. Port away I say!

Remake and rebirth twin pack $49.99 for Switch 2 will sell at least 500K and get Rebirth's lifetime sales up near 4M.

I don't think FF16 will clear more than100K in Switch 2.

This feels justified to me. They need to start cultivating audiences outside of PlayStation. Nobody should expect big sales out of this, obviously, but they have to start somewhere.

I'd honestly take XV over XVI any day.

XV at least felt like I was going on an adventure.

XVI mostly just felt like FF XIV A Realm Reborn drudgery combined with a half-baked character action game. It did have some really pretty boss fights though.

The more negative opinions I hear about this game, the more I am convinced it is a perfectly fine title to play.

It would be an okay hack n slash if it wasn't a main line FF and you skip all the cut scenes. But as a main line FF it sucks balls. And even worse the cutscenes are longer than all the gameplay. It's like the absolute worst offender of interactive movie.

I don't care whether it is a good FF, or not, and I say that as someone as long time FF fan.

FF entries themselves were always vastly different experiences to me, including even FFX, and FFX-2.

It just needs to be a good game in its own right.

I don't think they will port it, they know it will bomb and the port will be a headache considering the game's terrible optimization.

CBU3 is doing ports now, so just port Stranger of Paradise and you'll have made at least one good action-RPG.

I'm playing this on Ps5 Pro now. I thought this was the Switch 2 port.

Some if that blur is insane especially on performance mode.

I don't mind the actual game, I don't like the constant cuts and fades to black. I have Rebirth next after this so can't wait to get stuck into that.

Appreciate them trying to generate as much profit from this title as possible but please make seventeen and go back to turn based and make it amazing like expedition 33...OK? Thanks.
