Costco no longer sells Xbox consoles and games

If it's more hassle than it is worth, they won't port it to Series S and MS will accept that. They'll come off far worse trying to dictate to T2 regarding GTA6. They're frankly not in a position to even try.

It´s weird. I mean, yes Xbox as a console is not on great shape, in fact they are in what seems to be their worst shape ever...And also making irrational choices like increasing prices....But in other hand Xbox lack exclusives, yes, but they´re still getting most of multiplattform AAA which are currently part of the industry´s conversation: MGS Delta, Silent Hill F, Battlefield 6, AC Shadows, Doom The Dark Ages, Silksong, Wukong, and even games from the competition like Helldivers 2 etc....And also they will receive long awaited killer apps like RE 9 and GTA 6 next year, among many other games...and let alone all Bethesda, Activision and MS games Studios upcoming titles. Heck! even the Xbox One is still getting nw games! So..yes, Xbox Series was defeated in sales by PS5 but they are still getting lotta stuff and still have a relatively decent userbase, i mean around 30 million of systems...So...are we just witnessing the equivalent of what was the 2001 for Dreamcast, in which the console was dead since march, but still getting pending projects during the whole year, even AAA and AA games 1st party , but also multiplattform last gen quickport stuff with big names like Alone in The Dark IV, Spider-Man, Matt Hoffman´s (Xbox Series, and PS5, still have a catalogue mainly crossgen) and even some 3rd party games shared with PS2 like Unreal Tournament, Evil Twin, Stunt GP, RE Code Veronica X and Capcom vs SNK 2, etc? (all Xbox releases are basically multi stuff shared with PS5). Could be a similar scenario? GTA VI and RE 9 among other 2026 upcoming third party AAA titles have risk of being cancelled for Xbox Series?

But at this point, is it worth porting a colossal game like GTA6 to Rockstar's standards on Series S?
Since there are no official numbers, but it´s probably that most part Xbox Series userbase are Series S users...So, from a bussiness perspective would have more sense releasing on Series S than even on Series X.

That article was already over 2 years old and a lot can change in that time

That's the thing. I don't think for Phil, things have changed in his heart. Even you are good to remind GAF that they are making a real, fully fledged console after the Xbox Series X\S. I'm pretty such that statement is still true for Microsoft and the Xbox brass.

Plus........the console is where most of their Gamepass subscribers are.

Oh I am 99% sure we are getting one more generation of actual Xbox consoles plus Xbox branded OEM PCs

Hey screenshot boy- it's a shame you didn't capture this:

I admit I was wrong here. I thought it would at least take until next generation for Sony to start porting their exclusives to Xbox. Helldivers 2 was announced just a few months later...

They sell prebuilt PCs so I don't see why not, if there is demand.
So if CostCo chose not to sell AMD powered pre built PCs, does it mean they won't be sold in meaningful numbers?

See, that's the entire point of PC/Console convergence. To make it so that every device serves both PC and Console gamers. Bigger the TAM (Total Addressable Market), more potential for OEMs. Xbox hardware piggybacks off of AMD Gaming PC hardware, one and the same, dual purpose.

MS does not want to sell at retail, they are trying to reduce their footprint and have the OEMs take over. The next gen hardware will decide what sells or not.

Costco will sell what they think they can make money on. Clearly they are not making money (or enough money) on Xbox. I have no idea what "meaningful numbers" is as far as their next gen console is concerned.

We don't really know what the next gen Xbox looks like and Microsoft seems hellbent on making the entire concept of "Xbox" meaning everything and nothing at the same time. Customers will decide what sells or not. Always have.

Yea I think during the 360 gen Rockstar forced MS to get rid of one of their clauses. I forget what it was though.
Which one? The only bullshit clause I think they had was something to do with trying to hold back Bluray so publishers weren't allowed to release extra content on PS3 Bluray discs if they wanted to publish on 360 too.

Do you think they even make these things anymore? Perhaps they are just depleting current stock until the next....console....pc....box....comes out in 2026?

The brand damage if they fully deplete stock before the next console hits....I mean if the brand can even be damaged by being the 3rd best console anymore....

I don't see how they recover from this generation with more expensive hardware next gen. I worry we have sold our last large number of Xboxes folks....

The wild west days of gaming are over. New platform searchers won't consider xbox and people who bought xbox this gen....many of us won't do that again without a really good reason. Where does Xbox take hardware from here? Nintendo and Sony each have their things but Xbox tried something really different this time and it hurt them in hardware....the other companies will double down on hardware. Where does Xbox go from here? They done fucked it up. They should have stuck to a traditional model instead of trying to disrupt with no real understanding of this all or nothing market. Perhaps this was their plan the whole time but if so, wow wtf.

Well he will be the reason it died too. Selling a shitty $1000 handheld will make it worse.

Sadly that's their plan crash/disrupt the industry kill off the model that PlayStation has always dominated ( Selling a lot of consoles & retail games ) and try to create a situation where the return on investment would be too low for PlayStation to survive

The thing that gets me is this: where the fuck is the commentary in the enthusiast press on the dismal failure of Xbox's strategy this gen?

Seriously, any other company fucked up this badly there'd be no end to the articles calling out the leadership on behalf of aggrieved owners! I remember the gloating at the peak of the 360's success about how Sony was finished, and yet... here we are.

No doubt there'll still be plenty of articles glazing their progress as a publisher come the end of the year too.

Too many so-called journalists are on MS payroll to admit their failure

They're doing horrible with that plan I don't even see how it happens at this point. They seem to have just destroyed their own ecosystem.

You are 100% correct. They 1st tried it with Gamepass. That has failed. Now they think they can dictate what happens in the gaming space. Let's just hope us gamers at large don't fall for their bullshit.

You and a few others should keep that link bookmarked for when Digital Foundry start posting Next Xbox vs PS6 game comparison videos.

Why ?

Only one of these consoles is going to be mass marketed so why would people care that a few people will have a small visual or performance edge?

You're clearing a puppet cheerleading whatever you think is better for Xbox.

You was going on about how the Series S was going to do so well now you're trying to clown to power of the PS6 to deflect from the fact retailers are abandoning Xbox Series consoles.

Do you understand how stupid you look?

Consoles have VERY low profit margins. Laptops / PCs have higher markups and other uses besides gaming.

How do you know? MS have clearly given up on pushing the Series consoles, but that doesn't mean they won't market the next gen.
As for the performance edge, obviously you're desperate to believe it will be insignificant. Just a reminder, this is a specialist forum and people obsess over those details so it's odd to make that argument on here of all places. Why did so many NeoGAF members rush to buy the PS5 Pro? Some did because they'd buy anything with a PlayStation sticker on it, but many more bought it because they wanted a performance boost.

I speculated (last year) on the Series S potentially doing well based on it appearing that it would be the cheapest way to play GTA 6. Circumstances changed dramatically and my analysis was adjusted accordingly.
I don't mention the PS6's humble APU to distract from anything, I just mention it because others would rather not acknowledge the topic.

Do you understand how stupid you look?
I understand you're getting very worked up at any suggestion that the PS6 APU won't fare well against Xbox's Magnus.

I couldn't care less about PS6 APU at the moment

Physical media though. I mean, I buy 4K UHD movies on physical because you actually get a bitrate improvement from them. But I can't expect to find them at Costco afaik.

Video games on disk have no real benefit other than resale, which actually harms profits lol. Video games are ultimately a digital medium.
As a consumer of video games, if you care about "profits" you're doing it wrong. Play games and enjoy them. Buy them if you want to. That is all. Leave the business to the employees who work there.
