Your right, looks like Sony has the trade mark per the us patent officeYou're wrong, Sony owns the IP.

According to Shuhei Yoshida from his Sacred Symbols interview earlier in the year, first party is a game fully funded and published by Sony, even if it's developed by an external studio. So Death Stranding is considered first party.Kojipro isn't a first party studio.
Who's they? The buyers? lmaoForbidden West vibes.
They want to make Ghost of Yotei a thing.... ain't happening.
They are, Chris Dring mentions it here...Are they counting that? it was published by Sony but the development was done by AH and think they retained the IP.

It's a Sony first party even though AH is making it. Sony owns the IP.
I guess they can call it whatever they want then. First party game but not a Sony studio.According to Shuhei Yoshida from his Sacred Symbols interview earlier in the year, first party is a game fully funded and published by Sony, even if it's developed by an external studio. So Death Stranding is considered first party.
We're in the 'EA's biggest ever single player release on Steam' stage. Hold the line bros.
Yep. Mat Pascatella(sp) did the same thing. If it broke records Sony would have put out official PR. So it's either flat or slightly behind after a week. Legs will be the difference maker.I am always suspicious of these vague metrics in a specific market comments. The games been out over a week, give the week one sales and settle the matter.
Why not count it? It's a Sony first-party game, just like Death Stranding 2.Are they counting that? it was published by Sony but the development was done by AH and think they retained the IP.
Sony is holding an event tomorrow with the game directors. They will presumably reveal the sales numbers.Yep. Mat Pascatella(sp) did the same thing. If it broke records Sony would have put out official PR. So it's either flat or slightly behind after a week. Legs will be the difference maker.
There's nothing "yikes" here.In line and no numbers
yikes
MLB is pretty irrelevant in Europe.MLB The Show 25 was not in Gamepass this year and was selling 20% ahead of its best year in franchise history at the half year mark as reported. Wonder if it beat that as it's technically first party?
IP ownership doesn't matter. Spiderman 2 and Wolverine are first party games even though Sony doesn't own those characters. No, HD2 is published by Sony but the IP remains with the studio, arrowhead.
I am always suspicious of these vague metrics in a specific market comments. The games been out over a week, give the week one sales and settle the matter.
This is how Circana/GSD share data with the public. It's not specific to GoY.Yep. Mat Pascatella(sp) did the same thing. If it broke records Sony would have put out official PR. So it's either flat or slightly behind after a week. Legs will be the difference maker.
tsk… tsk… calico just said hold the line and you are already retreating to the legs. Ho…doooorrrr!Yep. Mat Pascatella(sp) did the same thing. If it broke records Sony would have put out official PR. So it's either flat or slightly behind after a week. Legs will be the difference maker.
The soundtrack listening party?Sony is holding an event tomorrow with the game directors. They will presumably reveal the sales numbers.
Im not retreating, big dog. I think this will underperform in the long run. I'll be sure to tag you on future posts.tsk… tsk… calico just said hold the line and you are already retreating to the legs. Ho…doooorrrr!
I always assumed when people refer to 1st party it was developed and published by the platform holder, 2nd party was produced externally and published by the platform holder and 3rd party was produced and published externally. Why not count it? It's a Sony first-party game, just like Death Stranding 2.
Every game funded by the publisher — whether through money, support studios, or tools — is a first-party title. I don't know why people keep making things up to argue otherwise.
Microsoft considers Ninja Gaiden 4 a first-party game. Sony considers Death Stranding 2 and Helldivers 2 first-party games. Nintendo considers Bayonetta 2 and 3 first-party games. All publishers use literally the same criteria.
Is it a boycott if you were never going to buy it and weren't the target audience?Boycotters right now:

I'm trying to wait for the PC version, but I might bite later this year.
oh god i might skip this one after all thanks for the warning I suck at drawing on those things. My only complaint(so far) is the "drawing" on the little dual sense mousepad is not a minigame and isn't fun to anyone and seems to be used a lot, but that's really a nitpick.
People really forgor that Helldivers 2 wasn't big straight away? Beating HD2's first week is not a feat.
People love coming up with theories to fit that idea into some kind of narrative.I always assumed when people refer to 1st party it was developed and published by the platform holder, 2nd party was produced externally and published by the platform holder and 3rd party was produced and published externally.
The Bayonetta one is wild as Sega owns the IP but ninty consider it 1st party. Like to they consider Bayo a Nintendo character like Donkey Kong?
Anyway, Dring clarified that his metric that it included HD2 as people on Twitter were similarly confused . Guess that the issue with vague metric as opposed to actual numbers.
Is "in-line" the new "engagement"?
No it isn't. This is specifically for those who said they were going to boycott it. Mostly some salty folks here on GAF and Twitter. Is it a boycott if you were never going to buy it and weren't the target audience?
Nah we probably agree on the tail. I'm just not sure what to make of the head yetIm not retreating, big dog. I think this will underperform in the long run. I'll be sure to tag you on future posts.
My narrative is that Dring's comments are non-specific, anything else is faulty inference on your part.People love coming up with theories to fit that idea into some kind of narrative.
The way they're releasing information isn't specific or exclusive to this title — it's literally the same format used in every monthly report.
The game is selling well, right in line with the first one. Like it or not.
YES! It feels like déjà vu. I got banned from the purple forum for saying Black Myth: Wukong was a good game and deserved to succeed. Stellar Blade also faced backlash there, but Hogwarts Legacy was the worst case — they literally banned any mention of the game's existence. The one that must not be named. lolsome of you are just really desperate to see this game fail, you realize you're just like the other forum and the people who wanted the same for Hogwarts Legacy right? two sides of the same coin with your vehement dislike of a game for something that isn't even accurate
they thought Hogwarts was transphobic because of Rowling despite the fact it was if anything unrealistic with there being a trans bartender who is significant at points in the story in the 1800s and we've had quite a few reports that there isn't really anything woke in Yotei but you all just latch onto the VA
My narrative is that Dring's comments are non-specific, anything else is faulty inference on your part.
Until we get actual numbers it's anyone's guess. The one thing we can all agree on is that it did better than Death Stranding 2.Nah we probably agree on the tail. I'm just not sure what to make of the head yet
His comments are in line with the reports he publishes every week. You can open last week's article and see it's the same thing. There's simply nothing different being done this time.My narrative is that Dring's comments are non-specific, anything else is faulty inference on your part.
His comments are in line
Some guys decided to come up with a crazy conspiracy theory, as if the data were being manipulated to look better.
When Sony releases the numbers, they'll say it's fake or come up with some other nonsense.
This game really hurt some people. lol
Where's that in the report?European Report: "Sales are slightly above Ghost of Tsushima."
Inline means it's similar, it could be more and could be less, I have seen entertainment companies describe sales as being inline with 30% variances. Specific is the actual numbers. What's non-specific about it? Whatever Tsushima sold in its first week in Europe Yotei has also sold.

I was paraphrasing the reports. Christopher Dring literally says it's in line and above Ghost of Tsushima. I don't know how you guys are interpreting things differently.Where's that in the report?

No way to know but it would be interesting to figure out the legitimate boycotters from the people just claiming they are a lost sale.No it isn't. This is specifically for those who said they were going to boycott it. Mostly some salty folks here on GAF and Twitter.
Obviously the game isn't for everyone and I still respect people that never had any interest in it from the start.
He can't be much more specific than this
The fact he has to clarify means that he his original comment was not being specific.
Of course he could be more specific, he could state how much more. Give us the numbers
