It's ok, flat or down 10% is actually significantly up if we just paraphrase it.My assumption is if launch sales are down, where the bulk of the enthusiasts are, then legs would also be down over time.

No it isn't.It's the only game they have released since Spiderman other than Helldivers 2 which caters to an entirely separate market.
Usually a sequel or a successor will open bigger than the original thanks to the quality of the original game but unable to have the same leg since the bulk of sales concentrated during the launch period. Launching inline with previous game is certainly underwhelming but not nearing disaster launch like DS2.My assumption is if launch sales are down, where the bulk of the enthusiasts are, then legs would also be down over time.
Could be for a number of reasons. Economy, higher prices, lack of interest, the controversy. Take your pick.
Again, stop the bullshit:This is hilarious, they literally had nothing else since.
Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Death stranding 2, Astrobot.
A GaaS game,Death Stranding is not a first party title, an Obscure Korean jiggle simulator and a Mario Odyssey ripoff. Yeah Ghost of Yotai is their first AAA release since Spider-Man 2.Again, stop the bullshit:
Call me what they show a single actual number.
I hope you get paid for this shit. I'm not biting.A GaaS game,Death Stranding is not a first party title, an Obscure Korean jiggle simulator and a Mario Odyssey ripoff. Yeah Ghost of Yotai is their first AAA release since Spider-Man 2.
I don't, do you get paid for weeping for Sony?I hope you get paid for this shit. I'm not biting.
An extremely popular GaaS game, Death Stranding is a first party game since PlayStation is the publisher, an obscure game that has managed to sell over 3 million copies, and 2024 game of the year.A GaaS game,Death Stranding is not a first party title, an Obscure Korean jiggle simulator and a Mario Odyssey ripoff. Not to mention releasing in one of the most crowded years( how many good games have we had this year) and next to some of the years biggest releases( ea fc, battlefield 6, etc).An extremely popular GaaS game, Death Stranding is a first party game since PlayStation is the publisher, an obscure game that has managed to sell over 3 million copies, and 2024 game of the year.
If that's not enough, how about the fact it sold the same as GoT while having a smaller console base and not releasing during the height of Covid?
Christopher said
"Launch sales in-line with Ghost of Tsushima."
"Not down at all."
"The same"
That's pretty clear.
These charts cover physical and digital game sales across Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, French Guiana, French Polynesia, Germany, Guadeloupe, Italy, Martinique, Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
It covers all physical game sales, but digital game sales from these companies: Activision Blizzard, Bandai Namco, Capcom, CI Games, Crystal Dynamics, Disney Interactive, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Gameforge, IO Interactive, Konami, Marvelous, Microsoft, Milestone, MyGames, Nacon, Plaion, Saber Interactive, Sega, Sony, Square Enix, Supermassive Games, Take-Two, Tencent, Ubisoft, UsTwo. Warner Bros, Wizards of the Coast and Zenimax Media.
Now you are just making shit up. Even Dring says "in line" which means adjusted for the amount of consoles. And neither Death Stranding, Astro Bot, or Stellar Blade sold close to what Tsushima sold, so beating them at launch isn't an achievement. Helldivers 2 was a slow burn, it literally only sold 1 million copies in the first few days, across both platforms. An extremely popular GaaS game, Death Stranding is a first party game since PlayStation is the publisher, an obscure game that has managed to sell over 3 million copies, and 2024 game of the year.

Interesting. So the sequels had higher numbers at launch but then ran out of steam? I never knew that, just that the sequels sold less.GOW 2018 - 5m(1st month)
GOW Ragnarok - 5.1m(1st week)
HZD - 2.6m(1st week)
HFW - More than HZD from Insomniac leak
Spiderman - 3.3m(1st week)
Spiderman 2 - 5m(11 days)
Have we heard anything about how well DS2 is doing overall? Very curious to see how Sony changes things up in the future. Jim Ryan's plan to do a repeat of the PS4 generation with an increased focus on GAAS doesn't seem to be a winning strategy.but not nearing disaster launch like DS2.
So it's not even fucking true. This is directly from the Christopher Dring website. It's physical only and even though it claims physical and digital, read the fine print....Sony games are one of the companies that don't report digital sales in Europe.

Ghost of Yotei delivers strong opening across Europe
But EA Sports FC 26 holds on at No.1www.thegamebusiness.com
opened 2nd behind EA Football Club, biggest PlayStation first-party launch in Europe since Spider-Man 2
edit: credit toDForce who posted about this first in another thread
I think HD2 was <1 million overall in the first few days. Compared to Tsushima's 2.4m.This doesn't surprise me. Helldivers 2 was huge on PC and ok on ps5. Especially at launch. I mean first weekend of Helldivers 2 was like 75 to 80 percent pc and the rest ps5. Then the hype train started.
Looking forward to picking this up. My backlog is embarrassing right now.
I refer you to your own post, particularly your own interpretation of his comment which you will find helpfully circled in red. Note also that this was the final of his comments you presented and you had read all of them when you posted this. The fact that you're having a hard time understanding what people are telling you is insane.
Probably still crying at the altar of his God.Hope grummz will be okay![]()

Would you like me to believe your first interpretation of these comments or your new interpretation?
Are you okay?
Want to talk?
You have a mix where you have platform warriors and people who are seeing this game exclusively as a pawn in their woke wokers vs woke anti-woke war so they need it to fail and both of them will try to shit as many threads up as they can.I told everyone what he said about Ghost of Tsushima vs Ghost of Yotei, and he gave several different statements.
You should be able to decipher that both launches were very, very close, with Ghost of Yotei being slightly ahead.
Mat Piscatella specifically stated "PS active users," and you still couldn't figure out he was talking about PS4 and PS5 users.
You're choosing to ignore what's right in front of your face.
Ghost of Yotei sales were very similar to Ghost of Tsushima in Europe, with Ghost of Yotei being slightly ahead. I don't know why some people in this thread have a difficult time accepting this.
Can you give me a TLDR on Mario Wonder? Sounds juicy.
Sony 2020:
Sony 2025:
Crickets.
I am? Nah, making shit up looks like this:Now you are just making shit up.
What did Dring actually say?Even Dring says "in line" which means adjusted for the amount of consoles.
I had forgotten Astrobot, but outselling that is meaningless. The other two are not 1st party games. No it isn't.
Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Death stranding 2, Astrobot.
I'm not sure what to tell you. they are considered first party games just like your other example:I had forgotten Astrobot, but outselling that is meaningless. The other two are not 1st party games.
It's the only game they have released since Spiderman other than Helldivers 2 which caters to an entirely separate market.
I think the confusion comes from the fact that second party is kind of a subcategory of first party.I always assumed when people refer to 1st party it was developed and published by the platform holder, 2nd party was produced externally and published by the platform holder and 3rd party was produced and published externally.
The Bayonetta one is wild as Sega owns the IP but ninty consider it 1st party. Like to they consider Bayo a Nintendo character like Donkey Kong?
Anyway, Dring clarified that his metric that it included HD2 as people on Twitter were similarly confused . Guess that the issue with vague metric as opposed to actual numbers.
1st party are games published by Sony in this case.I had forgotten Astrobot, but outselling that is meaningless. The other two are not 1st party games.
I don't know if someone answered you on this but basically Dring shat on Mario Wonder, calling it "made by C team" anddoubted it woud sell.
EDIT: okay he said it would sell but not help console sales
I mean he wrapped it between "eh won't be a big release" and "won't help console sales" so you can't pretend "C team" was a compliment - or just the team's name not related whatsoever to the statements before and after.Chris seems like a bit of a donkey tbh. His comment about the C team was the most egregious thing and he did damage control saying that was misinterpreted lol.

I wasnt aware that Sony sequels started strong and then nose dived in sales to end up being behind the original releases. I have read that sales are down overall but it deffo seems that there are those fans turning up and buying day one / week one but then the titles lose steam. Thats a shame.

Don't be confused, though: "the same" is a "a runaway success for SP".Interesting. So the sequels had higher numbers at launch but then ran out of steam? I never knew that, just that the sequels sold less.
Sony barely makes any games sales updates. What's that saying? Have the games outsold the originals in total numbers?
Sony barely makes any games sales updates.
As an example, they never said anything about GT7 sales, the game has 10m. sales units but zero statements
We had some insight thanks to the Insomniac Leak, all the rest are just assumptions.
