Update: Damage control from Digital Foundry:

Yeah, because "determinism" is what defines AI lol

I mean, if they can fine tune every aspect to their liking with less or same effort and those tools are fully integrated from the beginning to dev pipelines, then it could be a good thing.

Still they have to fix the "AI slop" look...

The actual implementation of this will be interesting, and I could definitely see how some games' visuals could be improved with this, but it's undeniable that the first look here is being received hilariously poorly.

I actually like what it's doing with some of the environmental lighting in a few of the examples, but the significant alteration of faces is really jarring.

The memes have been absolute fire, though. 😂

Man, I just can't take these kneejerk responses seriously today.

It's not "damage control" to say the obvious that a graphical tool will have parameters to adjust so developers can produce the image result they want.

Literally just the DLSS upscaling itself comes with SDKs and engine plugins for developers to control how it's implemented, which is why some games literally produce visual bugs, noise, blur, etc. based on decisions they make with it. Just because it gets dumbed down in a graphics options menu to a toggle switch, doesn't mean that's what the devs get to use too.

On FiFA example they used, Virgil Van Dijk looked like a different person. I see the potential with lightning and objects but people faces will still more time in the oven.

Are they now saying Bethesda had full detailed artistic control over the bullshit they showed? Because....lol

Cool tech. Horrible demo.

This demo blew me away. The hate seems a little overreacted? I can't tell if other factors are cross-contaminating the reaction like Nvidia's prices skyrocketing, general AI fatigue and over-emphasis, RAM inflation, "fake frames" etc.

Just looking at the side by side in Starfield it's beyond impressive how much better it looks

I think the strong reactions comes from the fact that they look like every other AI generated characters out there.

Honestly, I feel like this was rushed out before it was ready. Probably should have waited a bit longer.

I can see this tech being very useful for developers, but the reaction to what was presented is deserved.

Pretty much this. To the point where I don't really know who it's for.

My guess is investors. They needed a pie-in-the-sky new thing to get folks talking about Nvidia again. And boy, is everyone talking.

Of note, I realize the potential of this tech as it matures, but who exactly is going to be seeing any of this degree of detail in-game beyond a fraction of a fraction of a percent who can afford to game with two 5090s in their PC or whatever? Hardware costs are insane already as is, and then on top of that, are we cool with having our hardware pulling high-end microwave oven levels of wattage during gaming sessions? The electric bills are going to be fun.

That's the thing. Anyone using this is going to be running the latest and greatest bleeding edge tech.

They haven't said how this is going to be trained. So is NVIDIA saying "screw your character artists and modelers, we'll just genAI this shit"? Because if you're running dual 5090s, you should be able to see the character model in as much detail as the engine can render it. Who's going to take generic AI face #26 over something hand made?

I'd be curious to hear from Capcom and Bethesda about the results shown here today.

Exactly this

They were using 2 5090s to render it, ffs. Who is it for? No way it will be ready for launch in some months from now. Thia is future tech, years out from now.

Nvidia had to show something to investors.

Imo its trully impressive tech, but this shitstorm is on them.

And they didnt have to clarify shit, it was already clear that devs would be able to change everything about it. But some people are brainless.

With a mom fix the thread so it isn't as sarcastic or I'm not sure if the topic Creator or is actually poking in front of them video or inadvertently that's all but can't the news just be reported straight up without some sarcastic thread title.

The more realistic the graphics get, the less i care. Gaming is not about just graphics alone and the hyper focus on graphics has led to the degradation of other systems like physics, destruction, AI, level design, story telling, etc.

I'm not necessarily opposed to this hut the demos are just rubbish.

Haters gonna hate anyway

Whether you like it or not.
That's what people said about electric cars in the states. The problem is that people have to spend money to buy the product. If they don't, then it cooked.

Graphics have gotten better yet according to the data, people are instead playing old games and remasters.

Apples and oranges, if all cars produced were electric you wouldn't have a choice. That's what's going to happen with GPUs.
And people might skip RTX 6000/7000. But soon or later they wont have a choice if they want to keep playing games. And of course AMD will follow the same path, trying as always to catch up.

No shit, people are panicking over fucking examples made by a moron like jensen, a dude who can't read a room to save its life.

Of course artists can do whatever they want with the tools they have, they are not series X developers ffs.

Sure thats why all the characters they showed all looked like they were from the same game, with zero distinguishing art differences between them

Also lol at trying to fully control gen ai

Seems like NVIDIA thought the reveal of SLOPSS would go over better than it did. Very common problem for these AI merchants. They're so far up their own ass they don't see this shit the way everyone else does.

It's crazy weird seeing some people completely dismiss this. Do the faces look a little uncanny? Sure, but it's still higher fidelity than the usual video gamey faces we have now. The environments look absolutely stunning though.
But it's very important to note that this is the first time we are seeing tech like this, they will improve it over time just like they did normal DLSS when it was full of artifacst in its 1.0 release version.
Tech like this will also improve in the years to come, but this is a great starting point.

Wrong, the choice is to not buy period. Many people are choosing to do that now. Save their money and substitute gaming for other hobbies.

When Nvidia is telling you that 2 5090s are needed to run the demo, then you know the consumer gpus are going to be expensive.

Even at GDC, many devs were expressing concerns about consumers unwillingness to upgrade. A renewed focus on optimization and low end gpus was a topic of discussion. In this economy, gaming is at the lowest on the totem pole of priorities. Especially if you have a system that can still play older games.

Personally, as someone who purchased a 5090 laptop and built a 5090 desktop, Nvidia can go pound sand. I'm not upgrading for a long ass time.

The AI look a lot better IMO
The AI will simply look like something that Capcom hasn't made.

I'll look like the Ubisoft game released a month prior. Or the Bethesda one releasing a week later.

Should be fairly obvious why this whole ordeal could be the literal end of videogames as we know them.. some will be ok with that and there's nothing to do about it unfortunately, others will not.
I just want the artists at Capcom that manually made this on a Console to be able to continue to work their magic as technology progresses, not see their work replaced with something the entire world is already tired of after just a couple of years of generative AI.

I'll use my eyes, thank you very much.

Biggest graphical leap since PS1-PS2.

Even Bethesda, known for hideous games and cardboard characters, can make a stunning looking game now.

Hell, I imagine even the talentless hacks at Team Ninja and FROM Software can make good looking games now.

Greatest day in gaming since TLOU 2 was announced.

God bless AI, God bless Nvidia.

Maybe they shouldn't be given full artistic control if their games look like such shit in comparison.

I think DLSS5 looks awesome. It's obviously not ready for release yet. It needs two 5090's to run so it needs to be optimised and/or will require a 6000 card to run it. Oh wait am I doing damage control too??

People are just excited to spew slop by saying slop. AI is here to stay so get used to it. Give up gaming by all means if you feel so strongly about it. Get with the times.
