I find the back and forth about this highly amusing.
Some people have so much invested in the game being some massive level of genre-defining and generational they cant accept the scores. Or at least they are trying to make less of them or who scored them.
Then there's the people who obviously just this game to fail and to see people who're excited about it, eat crow or rub in their face that it was a failure; looo no further than the self-congratulatory posts with people saying how they "called it" followed by why this game was doomed, and anyone who thought it would garner reviews about 85 was an idiot.
Conversely, the people who've reviewed the game, I think it's painfully obvious, a large swathe of the "games journalist class" are truly not equipped to handle this type of game; whether that be due to the nature of its systems, the time constraints they have on them to hit embargo, their skill set as individual players; but the more hardcore "gamers" who have done reviews-in-progress are eating this up, for the most part. Funny that split.
