Sony says no to PS Vita price cut

So Sony didn't realize at all that they were sending their handheld out to die by not showing any games? Who's responsible for this clown show?

Of course you got a good response for your TBA 2013 PS3 games, how does that help the Vita from getting removed from store shelves?
Their PR team is to blame. Via VG247.

But I observed that the PR team’s one big focus was to make the conference shorter this year. We have been criticised for having a long conference in the past. So this year’s focus was let’s make it very compact and impactful.

Wonderbook made the conference really impactful, right? And they had no time for Vita? I don't understand these people.

Wow thanks PR, you guys are dumb. The only time a Sony conference has been too long is when they didn't have enough content to fill it, which hasn't been a problem for years now.

That was, in retrospect, our fault - not looking at every angle when we designed the programme for the show. We have 25 new games, Vita titles, playable on the show floor.... We could have spent more time - probably we should - showing off those games coming out this year.

Really? EVERYONE on earth said that this conf was make or break for Vita and you didn't realize that?????

It isn't just that there wasn't a "sizzle reel" for upcoming Vita games, it's the fact that the "25 playable games" on the show floor didn't even rate a mention during the presentation. That's something which would have taken all of ten seconds: "Over two dozen Playstation Vita games, all of which will be releasing soon, are available in our booths for you to try right now." That it wasn't deemed important enough to spare half a minute on is an incredibly shitty way to dismiss the people throwing support behind your shaky system.

1. That is a really lame excuse. The software drought is real.
2. If Sony says no, I think I'm just going to wait for some retailers to say yes.

Sony says no to PS Vita price cut, I say no to the PS Vita. More money I can spend on 3DS games (which come bundle with a memory card and a game for a significantly lower price) or the Wii U.

First and foremost, Wonderbook didn't need a real time demo. The 5 minute trailer promo and showing Rowling was involved was more than enough. As long as those 90 minutes were packed with content through trailers and quick 10 minute demos, that would have been enough. Andrew House spoke too much and so did Tretton on occasion cutting into much needed Vita. I also think they announced too much for Vita via Playstation Blog. Sly Copper for Vita would have been a nice e3 announcement.

wonderbook should have just been a vita software. Using the back camera and a card from the pack they gave with in. there's really no need for what they show really.

Yoshida blamed Vita's sparse showing on Sony's attempt to cut the length of its press conference compared to previous years. So let's show a 20 minute demo of fucking wonderbook.

haha, indeed. JK Rowling collab clouded their minds.

Oh Sony. All you needed to do was focus on the Vita for E3 to keep peoples hopes up, and you couldn't even do that.

Well, I think this is the list

http://e3.gamespot.com/games.html?platform=1069

(there are 26 games, but one is COD, which I don't believe was shown in any form).

It's a list of games alright, but I'm not sure it's much to brag about. Sports titles, Lego titles, downloadable games, HD Collections.

When Vikings Attack? Foosball?

Wonderbook should have had just a trailer like they used to do for that pet game. And then just show a reel of all the E3 vita trailer that sony does indeed have, they just didnt show.

also its crazy they didnt promote gravity rush at all.

To the people saying Sony is not trying hard enough for the Vita, 75% of their stage, 75% of the time was all VITA. Isn't that pushing it?

They talked about the cross-play bs and they demoed the smash bros thing and showed ACIIIL.

They obviously really didn't think about showing more and that's gonna cost them unless they unleash a media torrent of games to be released on it soon.

As a Vita owner, I didn't really feel that disheartened by what the showed. *shrugs*

The couple hundred of us who are going to buy that game didn't need a trailer at E3 to be convinced.

No, they should have showed me some exclusive games and not posters and screen savers of the hardware. I already know the hardware is awesome, but so far I don't know anything about big upcoming games that I can play on that awesome hardware.

I already have a PS3 to play Battle Royale and Sly Cooper, they have to show consumers games they need a Vita for, not show games that you can play on another system (one that is cheaper at that, the Vita costs more than the PS3!).
The cross-play looks nice, but afaik you need to buy a copy for both systems for it to work, who's going to spend 100 bucks on one game?

I think it's a real shame, Sony have this great little machine with loads of potential but they act like they don't even care.

vita owners are more disheartened by what they didnt show though.

Touche!!! ;-)

All this doom and gloom though, it's a bit too early I think. It'll pick up, it has too.

You are right and I agree with you. They should have showed more. But they wanted to pimp that harry potter shit. It's already biting them on the ass that move.

As far the BR and the Sly games go though, they're both games I probably wouldn't get for my ps3, but I am definitely getting them for my Vita. So I guess that's a matter of preference really.

I have some hope left, hopefully they'll make up for this at gamescon and TGS. They have too!

Also to be fair, Vita and PSP games just don't show well at a conference on that huge screen

When you show a hand held game right after showing a full console game, it puts the handheld version in a bad light

To the people saying Sony is not trying hard enough for the Vita, 75% of their stage, 75% of the time was all VITA. Isn't that pushing it?

You don't seem to understand. People expected, nay demanded, game announcements. If failing that then a price drop. The system is only just out and nobody is buying it because there are no compelling reasons to do so.

To make matters worse, Sony's lack of support (compounded by their inept presser in which the Vita was barely acknowledged) adds fuel to the fire of consumer caution. In today's difficult economic climate, most people aren't willing to pay for a device if there's any chance support will drop entirely within two years.

Bottom line is Sony bottled it. I'd argue the pressure was on them the most this year to deliver. Microsoft are riding out the crest of the 360 wave to next gen on the safeness of Halo. Nintendo have time to reevaluate yet again and generate interest in the Wii U. For Sony, the PS3 is fine, they needed to focus on the Vita and they didn't.

It's a disaster, but from the company that took the most lucrative console franchise in gaming history and flushed it down the toilet on $599, it's unsurprising.

Seems pretty much a no brainer to me. They already got our money for something old surely they should be getting us to pay for something new.

the price is right and was even applauded when it was announced.

just this part "And our priority is to achieve the potential through more games and services." SHOULD COME TRUE, more games please! :D

Now the PR team have a new focus...and that is finding new jobs.

Wonderbook made the conference really impactful, right? And they had no time for Vita? I don't understand these people.

I actually think the idea of showing less and giving each thing more time is great and something Sony really needed after past conferences. They just did a piss poor job of picking what they were going to highlight.

You're right. They had an image of the Vita on the background of the stage, all is well.

lol

I'm buying a PSVita today, those images sold me!

What I was saying was that they thought they were 'trying', but their efforts were really not what people expected. They totally mis-judged what they needed to show and thought all will be well.

Hopefully they'll make things right soon.

I don't want the fucking thing to die, I paid 250 euro for it for crying out loud! :P

Indeed.

They have been piss poor for years the moment they pick move to highlight and recently wonderbook. They should stop making casual perpherials and focus on the core.

To the people saying Sony is not trying hard enough for the Vita, 75% of their stage, 75% of the time was all VITA. Isn't that pushing it?

That's showing a picture of something on a stage.

Pushing it would have been a portion with a sizzle reel of stuff that's already out, live demos of upcoming games (even just LittleBigPlanet would have made sense), another reel with that and other games on the horizon, and another run-down of features and why people might want it.

Current support isn't anything to write home about, but reminding people what's out and what's on the horizon is a good thing to do, especially when your platform is bombing. They didn't bother to even do the bare minimum of that, so I don't really know what they're thinking.

The AC and CoD games could be big. But 2 big third party games in the next 6 months isn't so hot. Where is Borderlands 2? The developer publicly stated they wanted to make a Vita version - why didn't Sony try to make it happen? X-com, Resident Evil 6 are also pretty big games coming out this fall that possibly could have a Vita version (or spin off) but apparently won't. (Personally, for me, X-com on a portable would be a killer app)

And does anyone other than hard core Sony fans really care about those Sony games?

Gran Turismo Vita (a real one), KillZone Vita, God of War Vita, The Last of Us Vita, that Quantic Dreams game Vita. Those would be more appealing than a port of their Smash Bros clone or LBP (which I just didn't think was much fun).

They've basically put all their high profile games on the PS3 and continue to do so - that's the problem if they want the Vita to succeed.

Exactly! Every time a person posts Vita games lists all I see are games I personally don't care about.

I made a list (similar to yours with GT and such) in the last thread and nobody says anything. LBP isn't fun for me, I don't enjoy it. So maybe it isn't the Vita. Maybe the Vita has the greatest handheld selection of games out than any other console ever in the history of the world ... I'm just not interested in them.

Plus it's expensive.

Saying no to a price cut means no to a sale. I can't believe how much they are fucking this up. I just wish it would get 4-5 awesome RPG's and maybe Puzzle Quest 3 or something so I can buy it when it's in the clearance rack.
the price is right and was even applauded when it was announced.
The price was applauded before we realized you needed to spend more on expensive proprietary memory and the ridiculous $50 price for certain games.

I really don't understand people.

What types of games people really think will "save" Vita? If they announce new, exclusive games of stablished IPs, people says "lol, sidestory, not gonna buy". If they announce new IPs, people say "lol, new IP, it'll sell like shit". If they announce multiplatform games, peopl say "lol, ports".

Looking from that perspective, what type of game will be doing good on Vita? I think no one.

Here's how you cut the length:
1. Have Jack Tretton not spend 5 minutes at a time for 3 sentences worth of content
2. No 20 minute Wonderbook demo
3. Don't bookend each announcement by having the presenter re-explain what they said before the announcement

Suddenly there's room for at least a damned Vita sizzle reel.

BONUS! Nintendo Edition:
1. Don't spend 10 minutes saying you have no time
2. I appreciate that they get the whole chain of people involved out there, but we would spend 5 minutes watching people introduce new people, then introduce even more people, just for that last person to say "here's a trailer!"
3. We don't need to know every single detail about the Luigi Nintendoland game
4. We don't need two extended trailers in a row, showing nothing but panoramic shots of the Nintendoland hub world.

Microsoft did alright, pacing-wise, except for that extended Nike announcement.

Announcing any games at all would have been better than nothing. Yes, Playstation all stars is nothing.

I'm sort of torn.

Because on the one hand, I agree with everyone else, in that they spent way too much time on Wonderbook and not enough on the Vita game list.

On the other hand, when I see the actual Vita game list for this year, its actually pretty good.

Announcing any games at all would have been better than nothing. Yes, Playstation all stars is nothing.

All they had for Vita were three announcements, but they were new game announcements. All Stars, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation and Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified.

It was very simple. The PSVita is less than 6 months old, the majority of the conference should have been about it.

THIS! THIS! THIS!

It doesn't take a genius or a team of marketing drones to realize that your just-released-handheld should be the focus of your E3 conference. Want to spent time talking about PS3 and PSN? Fine. But the vast bulk of your show should be about the Vita. Neither the PS3 or PSN needed the push and attention that the Vita needs right now.

The fact that it took a massive PR blunder for them to even begin realize this very basic concept is downright pathetic, and, quite frankly, concerning when you realize these same people will be responsible for the PS4/Orbis.

All they had for Vita were three announcements, but they were new game announcements. All Stars, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation and Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified.

They announced Call of Duty last year, and in an entire year added a subtitle. Bravo.

We already knew about AC3, but yes, they announced one decent game. Bravo.

E3 was just the Sony has no games meme all over again.

No price cut until slim revision was a pretty obvious strategy from the start and I'm glad they're sticking by it. Expect more bundles and stuff though, until more games come out.

WHY? they are getting murdered by the original psp and the all mighty 3ds. That logic is beyond backwards.

Listen I'm not going to pick up All Stars either, but it is a new game, you can't just disqualify it like that Tobor :)
