you'd look joyless too if you were about to marry the person you didn't want to marry. And all the other items she was joyless was because she kept getting shitted on by Peter because he was busy with his spiderman responsibilities.

And the horrible shootings did have an effect on the opening weekend, but I also think that the fact that it was just not as good as the previous movie didn't help it either. Second weekend will be interesting, but not as huge as many think.

The quality of the film would have no impact on opening weekend. That's almost entirely generated by hype and previous entries in a franchise.

I'm saying she's joyless throughout the entire trilogy. Not to say she didn't have a reason to be. Peter treated her like shit. Which was one of the reasons I never cared about their relationship, because hey so clearly should not have been together.

She wasn't joyless in the first one, in the second one her character was very conflicted so it made sense, and well, I mean Spider-man 3.
 
I'm going back for a third - and final screening - in about two hours. Yeah, I'm liking this movie a lot. Last time I went back to the cinema for multiple screens of a film was Tron Legacy. And I seen that five times.

why though. The whole arc of Peter learning to juggle his personal life with his responsibilities as spiderman is one of the most important aspects of the character. Same goes for MJ finally being able to accept that he has to do what he does.

When they finally say fuggit and accept everything it felt earned because of all that pain.

really the soundtrack and Olivia are the only two redeeming qualities. well I guess the art direction was pretty good. outside of that, ehhh.

I agree, thus it makes sense why she's less happy in the sequels. I felt like at the end of SM3 when they start dancing you see a much more mature side to both characters-- while they may not be together you get the sense that they've learned a lot from what happened and deeply matured from it.

Relationships should make a person happy. I'm struggling to remember a scene where Peter and MJ were genuinely happy together.

Opening day it would have no impact. Opening weekend it would. All it takes is people telling their friends and then Saturday and Sunday would go down more than normal.
 
Have you guys noticed a less crowded theater ? Here in Dutchieland the theater where I was yesterday was packed and it was the 5th screening of the day in the largest room.

Scarecrow's cameo trumped TDK's one. Rhas was a really cool moment, only wish the fade out wasn't so obviously an illusion. Stuff like the coat on Bruce's shoulders and "Why do we fall?" made the film feel cohesive with Begins, not piggybacking off its success.
Although Zimmer definitely dropped the ball on adding to the series, and piggybacked off his previous successes.

The performances were the most natural of the series though, didn't see anyone cashing in. Also really enjoyed the ending in this. I never loved TDK's ending as much as everyone else. If the speech followed a truly great scene, it would have been something, but the coin flipping russian roulette was such BS. Once the Joker is caught, TDK may as well be fast forwarded to Batman running away. Two Face's turn is probably the least earned character change in the series. This film never pandered to the exposition of Begins ending either "This thing is gonna blow!".

I'm surprised at the polarizing opinions on this movie. Everyone said TDK after its opening, through Hong Kong was boring (I partially agree). New Rachel scenes, Scarecrow's cameo, etc. Now it's just forgotten, when lamenting the same weakness in TDKR. Yet some people love TDKR's first hour, hate the spectacle that follows. Really weird. I like the slower pace of TDKR's first hour here though. Catwoman's scenes were cool, Bane was imposing, JGL and Gordon get into pretty serious shit, and what are thought to be minor events turn into very important ones in a surprising, interesting way.

Okay, I want to apologize for the cash in by actors comments. They were not. Just, the writing sucked so fucking hard that it seemed that way. The pacing was still garbage.

Not really. POTC2 had a historic opening weekend not only in gross, but also in day to day weekend gross. Despite the fact that most consider it to be a hum drum sequel. It did that well because of hype and love for the first film. Poor word of mouth effects legs in the long term, not the opening weekend. This movie should have had a higher opening weekend than TDK in terms of gross and ticket sales. And all estimates pointed to that happening. The shootings are what did it in.

you need to rewatch the movies mang! Thre are plenty of happy moments but there aren't a ton because there's usually always something interfering.

I need to re-watch Bat Man begins, haven't watched it since fifth grade or so (so it's been since 2005 or so)

One part I did like about TDKR was
when Batman is sent to The Pit, reminded me of BB where he was in The League of Shadows

The three movies don't really connect in any way and while yes I agree Crusade>TDKR, Crusade doesn't really elevate the prior two movies like what a good finale act can do. Part of that has to do with fallout and seeing the consequences of events and going from there.

Despite all its faults, I still think TDKR is the best of the trilogy. The first half of BB is perfect, absolutely perfect, the best stretch of the entire trilogy, but what follows is probably the silliest stretch. TDK is an impressively intense film but ultimately rings hollow and mechanical. TDKR has the heart of the former with the intensity of the latter, and the most ambitious plot of the bunch. Winner!

Great movie. But i feel like it needs to be seen again to really appreciate it. Theres a lot going on throughout and sometimes you tend to miss a few beats. Also Bane is still very hard to understand i thought. Ill go see it again real soon.

I agree with your analysis of why TDKR might be the best, but not on your negatives of the other 2.

Begins will always have a soft spot for people because it's the origin, that and it was perfectly executed on how he became batman.
