Britain focusing on Britain.

Imagine that!

I'm not even serious, I just caught the end of the ceremony. No clue what happened.
My point was China's ceremony did not differ in that respect (nor does any opening ceremony; there's always a strong historical component to the presentation), and it should not be held against this ceremony.

Where was Sherlock Holmes, where was Alice, wheres was Tolkien. I liked they included Harry Potter, but COME ON danny Boyle.

Also the whats app part was shit, I thought we were going to get history about british TV (with Dr Who being an important part), movies and music, and we got bad dancing, giant onion heads and things that arent even british (cuentame, shrek, wall-e...) What the fuck was that.

Other than that shit the reast was pretty great.

Masterful GIFs, Sunhi.

My thoughts:

+
The design of the torch
The olympic rings at the beginning and in space
Mister Bean
Bond
Some of the songs

-
The Queen's level of enthusiasm for pretty much anything
Too much focus on late british history (Nothing pre-industry area)
Massive voldemort and marry popppins
David Beckham
No definitive torch lighter
Lacklustre final song
No raising of the torch
Spotty choreography at times

Tolkien writes the story of Britain and its history anyway, so that was somewhat covered.

Also, Tolkien's been dead a long time. J. K. Rowling is alive and available to attend. I'm glad they incorporated her and her characters. Although, that whole section of the ceremony was kinda strange. A bunch of hospital kids. I didn't quite get that part. "Inspiring the next generation..." I guess but why hospital kids? Why not just kids?

Alice was represented during the monsters montage.

Pretty good ceremony I think. The Beijing one may be more grand, but I felt like it is more a show case of how their government can spend without constrain.

And the torch lighting is better than Beijing, which had no soul.

Btw so much different music and no heavy or metal (that I could hear)
Genres pioneered by the british with Zeppelin, maiden, priest, sabbath deserved exposure
