Nobody has ever gotten 8 golds. Nobody has ever gotten 18 medals in swimming. Spitz is the only person ever gotten over 5 golds in swimming. Pretty freaking rare if you ask me.

There are far to many sports and games that deserve more screen time. I still pine for the glory days of prime time Chess coverage.

Usually you're slower and end up swimming against the wake and turbulence of the leaders. If you're the fastest, it is a big advantage - especially in olympic pools where there is usually extra space between the outside lane and the wall.

Historically because of the waves bouncing off the walls and disrupting the swimmers. Deeper pools have alleviated that but in the middle you can still keep an eye on your competitors.
