Well you can spend £1000 on a road cycle quite easily.

So I'd say at least that :p

Competition-grade bikes like the ones used in the Tour de France and Olympics will run you 12000 dollars easily, and those are the consumer versions. If I had to guess, I'd say that the completely customized models used in events like these are a fair bit more expensive.

Most of those bikes would set you back £2.5k. The very highest ones are custom shaped to the rider, so more like £4k+

Unrelated, Telegraph is saying that the badminton "losers" have been disqualified.

Way way way more.
Just the carbon wheels will be much more than that.

I think we should really think of Olympic history in post 1950s terms. Everything before then was just a bit of a laugh.

Obviously Jessie Owens is an amazing person, but the athletic side is on a whole new level.

OH SHI. DISQUALIFIED FROM THE BADMINGTON. WELL DONE OFFICIALS!

Haha! I know these bikes are silly money. What I was meaning is you could go to a cycle shop and drop £1000 easily on a pre-built cycle.

They are damn expensive.

SkyNewsBreak: Eight badminton players accused of throwing matches disqualified from Olympics

Deserved, I get playing the game to your advantage but they were just disgraceful, totally disrespectful to the people that bought tickets to see them.

Terrible decision, the tournament lost four great teams now. It's like disqualifying Brazil or Spain at the World Cup because they tank their last group stage match. Like France just did at the Euros against Sweden.

Or Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and co for throwing away matches in the round robin of World Tour Finals in London. It happens all the time, you don't go all out, you reserve your energy, you try to avoid a certain opponent in the knockout stage. It makes no sense to try win 3 matches in a row and be exhausted for the quarter finals/semis.

How does a bike cost so much? Does it come with a fall-proof system? No.

I think there's a bit of a difference between not trying your hardest, and purposely trying to lose, right?

I approve of that. Good to see that there's still traces of sport spirit in the organization. Citius, Altius, Fortius doesn't mean "anything to increase my chances of getting a medal".

France defeat against Sweden was legit, and deserved. They had no reason to lose that match and face Spain on the next one with a high risk of leaving the tournament (which is exactly what happened)

Well, that's the thing: Spain, Brazil, Federer, Djokovic, or Nadal would never do shit like this. If these teams were really "great", they wouldn't have to resort to petty tactics like these.

And no, France is not a great team.

Besides, there's a HUGE difference between "not going all out" and just plain throwing away the match. You're confusing things.

Most shops will carry ranges from about £600 all the way up to £5000 for adult road bikes.
