If table Tennis is a sport. Why the hell is not pool/billiards or darts a sport?

Also, the Brits showing of the gymnastics is so much more boring than NBC's because it is too objective. I prefer the American centrism in their broadcast. Moving on to beach volleyball.
I'm not against having pool and darts in the Olympics, but why the comparison? Don't see what table tennis have in common with pool and darts.

Medal table wise..there's no point..I know a lot of people who just want to see GB ahead of everyone else in Europe because there's no point trying to compete with China & US.

Sorry your country’s no competing on that level. :P

I don't really care:P

The fact is that I was jumped on because I made a snarky comment about Americans caring the most about the medal table, which is true as this thread shows. Not that I have any problem with that, but the reaction some people had were exagerrated, so I hope they are reading. Hey look, I was right.

Caring about medal counts is as old as the modern Olympics.

Yet another thing I dislike about the modern Olympics then.

Should be about individual/team triumph in my opinion, not what country has more population/funding to throw at something. All my favourite moments this Olympics have come from underdogs overachieving/excelling.

Do people really give a shit about where countries end up in the overall table?

For me its about individual/team medals.

I don't care at all but it seems a lot of Americans do

It's daft as it doesn't take into account size of population etc so a bit pointless although still mildly interesting

It dooes not require athleticism like the two I mentioned. So it is only a pseudo-sport. I actually am saying it is the one event I think should not exist in Olympics.

I'm just saying this thread has quite a few people like yourself who seem to think the medal table is the olympics.
PS. China gonna win gold in track cycling, where are US? ;)

When you're from larger countries like the US/Russia/China you certainly care about overall medal count because you expect to be #1.

It's a large part of the Olympics. Always has been (for the nations that actually have a chance).
