Man, the heptathlon women are clearly the hottest group as a whole in the Olympics so far. Om nom nom.

Poor Ennis, her fine arse is clearly a disadvantage in the high jump.

Well if they can't make money what are they going to do when they stop competing?
I don't know how it works, but 25,000$ for a Gold Medal isn't not so much?

There are plenty of other tournaments where they can make money. Sponsorship deals too.

Saying that though, If a country wants to award its athletes for great performances, I have no problem with it.

I only chimed in because of your statements around whether Shin should have disputed this before the end of the match, I think you are conceding that this would have been impractical. So I'm glad we got the misunderstanding out of the way.

To be clear, whether Shin got hit in that last remaining second shouldn't be debated, as recordings show it was 0.01 seconds before the second ran off. That's not the issue.

Too lazy, need to work. Maybe this is helpful ? I don't know, need to work now and stop posting.

I think this is still the crux of the issue and the link you posted shows that it is being debated - and that it was extremely close, in fact I have less sympathy for shin after watching it but what I still don't understand is how they could have cocked up the timing.

There is clearly a beep sounded when they restart - how does that not restart the clock, why is there also a 15 year old kid that supposedly was late starting the clock?

It's cute seeing Johnson-Thompson. She looks like she is one evolutionary step behind Ennis ( Mentally & Physically ) . Hopefully she

is one too look out for.

Glad this is getting some attention in the UK, it's a massive problem:

BBC News: Olympics 'dominated by privately educated'

Too many of Britain's top sportsmen and women were educated privately, the country's Olympic chief has said.

Lord Moynihan said it was wholly unacceptable that more than 50% of medallists at the Beijing Olympics came from independent schools.

He described it as one of the "worst statistics in British sport".

He said it meant half of Great Britain's medals came from just 7% of the population who are privately educated.

Chairman of the British Olympic Association Lord Moynihan called for an urgent overhaul of school sport policy, saying private school dominance of sports was "wholly unacceptable".
'Future priority'

He said: "There is so much talent out there in the 93% that should be identified and developed.

"That has got to be a priority for future sports policy. I have spoken about it many times and I will continue to speak about it until there is not breath left in me."

Lord Moynihan said Olympic sport should aim to have the same ratio of state to private school pupils as football.

I went to an inner-London state school - the only two sport 'programs' (e.g. after school classes) were football for boys and tennis for girls...

not that surprising. a lot of sport is expensive to support and the sports we're good at are things like rowing and sailing that are especially costly and not accessible through traditional routes. plus british private schools loving their rowing programs helps a lot too.
