Just some arguments regarding Ye Shiwen.

  • She came from nowhere
Not true. She won silver in 2010 and gold in 2011.

  • That she is just 16 years old
Well, Ledecky, 16 year old USA crushed the opponents tonight in 800 m freestyle.
Meilutyte, 15 year old Lithuania won gold in 100 m breaststroke earlier this week.

  • That she crushed the record
She broke it with 1 second but world records have been crushed with way more than that before.

  • That she swam faster than Lochte the last 50 m with 23 hundreds of a second.
That is true but Lochte was way ahead of the world record for the first 350 m. of the race until the last 50 m. when Lactic acid took over and he started sinking, and his opponents catching up to him and him loosing out on the world record completely.

Ye on the other hand, just like in 2010 and 2011 balanced the lactic acid perfectly and could turn on the turbo in the last 50 m.

In the end, Lochte was 25 seconds ahead of Ye Shiwen. A completely normal difference between men and women race.

Fuck , I am impressed :

Damn.

Why do you care about track cycling?

I mean I'm assuming Americans don't care about it seeing as they haven't won anything in it...

I don't care about track cycling. Just trying to throw some light on the apparent double standard here.

You can see how offended people are that we want to talk about this, whereas we can go on all day about the China/South Korea/Indonesia Badminton scandal and nobody will complain

If an American tried to pull something like this, I'd be the first to admonish or denounce him/her and I wouldn't be alone, either.

Yeah Lochte's last 50m were nothing special, Adlington for example had a faster last 50m split in an 800m race in 2011.

Tommorows guaranteed medals for china:

Badmintons womens singles final: both are from china

Womens doubles final: minmum of silver

Usa

Womens tennis final, minimum of silver

KJT is only 19, probably why. She also sort of does live "down the road" from me, well, same city anyway

She certainly looks like a sweet girl. For her I'll refrain from using my typically hostile remarks that I reserve for the "I'm just happy to be here" British athletic crowd.

Argentina maybe.
They only really have a problem with us to distract themselves from their own problems. Unfortunately that resulted in the deaths of hundreds, so now the aforementioned problems you mention are mutual.

I don't know how many 6'0 attractive in shape women you have down the road...but not many here in San Francisco....well they are around somewhere but hard to find, and you also have to make *sure*.
Well she's slim and tall (which is something I can't judge in that image), but slimness isn't a good indicator of how athletic you are.

Jessica Ennis looks like a pretty solid athlete but KJT looks like some girl that lives down the road.

Is it wrong that Im still laughing at the russian girls crying about losing in gymnastics last night? that shit was kind of funny just do to the fact the camera's were in there face the entire time.

you are a bad person, sorry ;)

It was due to the fact the camera's were ALWAYS in there face...it was like "enough". I do feel bad for them but NBC didn't have to be in their face the entire time

EDIT: be honest tho, did they have to show their face every 5 seconds? It was cheap how they were rubbing it in there face. Thats what i mean

They seem to love a girl crying, they did the same with Jordyn Weiber.

hehe i'm not judging you, but what answer did you expect? :) Bill Simmons described it pretty good in his Grantland column (http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8225426/dr-jack-breakdown-swimming-vs-gymnastics):
LEVEL OF SCHADENFREUDE

In swimming, you root for your country or your favorite swimmer and that's that. In gymnastics? As Rockets GM Daryl Morey (die-hard gymnastics fan — who knew????) puts it: "Gymnastics should be a German sport — lots of schadenfreude. You find yourself rooting for people to fail more than anything else." Totally true.

I guess from a TV / Drama perspective it makes all the sense in the world to focus on these extreme (opposite) emotions. But its actually really depressing, you are entertained by a teenager who's lifelong dream just got crushed. :( (even worse if you think about all the athletes who go out in the first round).

For those wondering about the Olympic Flame:

you are addicted to that photosite arent you? :D

gee you guys weren't kidding earlier about KJT's accent. she's was so cute until the strong scouse started pouring out. ennis is still a goddess at least.

anyway yay for murray, time for him to get revenge for wimbeldon. sad for becky, i really wanted her to get gold as she's so great. oh well, it was not to be, at least she's happy and proud of her bronze :)

Why do you brits hate each other so much? It's like every city has everyone from another city. I don't understand?
I don't hate them... I pity them.

Also, football is the reason for a lot of it. Rugby for another fair chunk of it. The rest can be covered mostly by accents and that everyone in London is a tosser. :D
