why did swimming get that many events in the first place? is it popular anywhere outside of the olympics? i literally never see any swimming outside of the two olympic weeks.

I'm in the U.S.

Does anyone know when they will have the medal ceremony for the Womens Heptathlon?

Is it soon after the event or later that night in London....and do these websites stream them live?

I agree they need to cut down on swimming.

Events I would cut:

50, 200, 400, and 1500m men's freestyle
100 and 200m men's breast stroke
200m men's butterfly
4x100m men's freestyle relay
50m, 100m, and 400m women's freestyle
100m women's breast stroke
200m women's butterfly
200 and 400m women's IM
4x100m women's freestyle relay

I think we can all agree that anything not on the track or field need to be gone entirely.

i find track & field far to chaotic to be exciting / enjoyable. too much stuff going on at the same time, cant tell whether they are showing something live or on tape delay. i'll take swimming over it any day of the week.

Now that Phelps is done and can go and play CoD, he has to resolve how he'll play le Clos in FIFA.

http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2012/swimming/story/_/id/8231855/2012-olympics-chad-le-clos-just-one-example-michael-phelps-impact-swimming
Before the night ended, le Clos and Phelps spent even more time together, arguing over who would win in a "FIFA" video game battle and discussing getting together someday to go cage diving in South Africa.

"He said he plays on PlayStation. I play on Xbox," Phelps said. "He says he could still take me. It's that competitiveness we both have. It's cool to see. It's been great getting to know him."

Anyway the main point of the article is that le Clos is the realization of Phelps greater dream.
When he was just 15, Phelps stated his goals to agent Peter Carlisle. They had nothing to do with gold medals, world records or becoming the greatest swimmer ever. Instead, Phelps said he wanted to change the sport of swimming; he wanted to motivate, inspire and push people to chase their dreams.

Two nights earlier, le Clos had shockingly out-touched Phelps to beat him in the 200-meter butterfly, a race he hadn't lost at a major international meet since le Clos was 8 years old. After the race, he mentioned how excited he was to beat his idol. The next morning, when Phelps relayed the story to coach Bob Bowman, the two of them got emotional.

The blond-haired, 20-year-old le Clos was the result of that goal. On Friday night, as he walked onto the pool deck with his idol for the last time, le Clos couldn't stop thinking about his place in this special moment.

200 and 400m women's IM
4x100m women's freestyle relay
That's still not enough. I'd say just the 50m free is all they keep.

I'd cut sports that are just pussy versions of other sports, like 'walking' (as opposed to running), ping pong (as opposed to tennis), Badminton (as opposed to volleyball), I mean, shit, they might as well have a slap-fighting event to go with boxing.

Almost every swimming event has been run since the 60's? Where have you been? Its worldwide.

I see swimming on TV just as much as I do track and field during the course of a year. Seriously...
So after all that, Phelps > Lochte

:D
lol

I was ready to bow to our new water overlord, but Phelps made sure to set my my foolishness straight.

So much shit talking before and early in the Olympics too. And in the end.. Phelps is still King of the castle.

why do we need to count medals and compare different sports / disciplines? like i said before, swimming is the main atteraction of the Olympics during the first week (together with gymnastics). who cares how many medals they hand out, just think of it as an entirely different branch of sports.
