Come on Mo!

How many cycling events were dropped since Beijing?

I don't think any were dropped. Several were added, in fact. It's just the one rider per sprint event rule has come in to force. It makes no difference (in fact it's better overall) to GB because they have so much depth, and more medals are up for grabs. But individually it just means that we won't see sprinters like Hoy defending so many medals.

At this rate, we'll have so much gold we'll be able to bail out Europe's economy.

Boris?

I agree they need to cut down on swimming.

Events I would cut:

50, 200, 400, and 1500m men's freestyle
100 and 200m men's breast stroke
200m men's butterfly
4x100m men's freestyle relay
50m, 100m, and 400m women's freestyle
100m women's breast stroke
200m women's butterfly
200 and 400m women's IM
4x100m women's freestyle relay

You give absolutely no reason to cut these events other than there are too many. So you'll keep the men's 100m free but let the women swim the 200m and 800m free? How does that even make sense? No breaststroke for men but the women swim the 200m? No IM for women at all but the men can swim it? Your cuts are illogical and misguided at best.

If anything, the multiple events demonstrates that it takes certain skills to effectively accomplish each stroke while swimming the 50m and the 1500m require endurance that are at opposite sides of the spectrum. Just taking a look at who competes in which event and you'll understand this. There is a big difference between sprinting in the water and going for the long haul. I think many of you are showing a complete lack of understanding for swimming.

There is no legitimate reason to cut any of these events.

Just one more Ennis pic...

I see that Great Britain in 2012 is pulling a Canada in 2010. Very awesome to see the home nation have such great success!

Olympics should just all be athletics no other bullshit. I'd be all for it.

Weightlifting would be part of that obvi.

No shooting, swimming, tennis, soccer, badminton, jude, tae kwon do, gymnastics etc.
Personally I'd drop everything that didn't come down to fastest, strongest, highest, longest. No team sports beyond relay races. Nothing that involves subjective results based on judges' scores.

Basically track and field, weightlifting, swimming, cycling, rowing.

The current setup doesn't bother me, though, and I enjoy it.

What about Dai Green in the men's 400 hurdles?

He only just qualified as a fastest loser. Something is up with him at the moment. He started the semi unusally fast. He needs to race as he usually does rather than force something different.

Don't think he'll medal but I'd be glad to be proven wrong.
