USA are up on gold medals, China up for total medals over Beijing so far. Might need to switch to ranking the medal table by gold first.

KJT gets a junior record!

Good question, what have Korea and France got left that they're going to win? I assume Korea has a ton of golds to come in taekwondo.

Not sure why France are so ahead this time, they got 7 Gold in Beijing (but 41 overall) guess they've upped their game. Korea got 13 gold and 31 overall ... Russia got 4 more gold than us in Beijing, but they seem to be faltering this time, 3 gold but 15 silver! Perhaps shows they keep just missing out on those golds.

We still have sailing, more cycling, open water swimming, tennis, triathlon, penthatlon, diving, athletics, taekwondo and boxing with great chances of golds.

Anthem was very cool. Entire stadium goes completely silent, then roars out the anthem.

And the stadium has the proper anthem. The rowing and cycling has one without the drum roll intro, so it catches the audience out

NBC was showing China on top today when we were down in total medal count. So you at least have to give it to them for sticking with their Standards.

Lewis Hamilton winning the Formula One World Championship in 2008 in dramatic style, on the last lap of final race of the season has been surpassed as my favourite moment of British sporting success by today's events.

Sorry Lewis.

Have to agree.

You guys kind of stole their thunder, what did you expect.

GB showed out today. Nobody is arguing differently. In fact, much praise is being directed their way from non-British. I wish I could have seen their dominant performance in the cycling events.

Still, the arguments for medal/population are flawed and goofy, and seem to only be used as a convenient way to rank themselves first. If you want to look at it that way, fine, just know the rest of the world recognizes the leader at these games.

As for the smack talk, like I said earlier, it's half the fun. Where were the hurt feelings earlier when "suck it, USA!" was thrown about? Nowhere, because Americans had to hold that shit. It's a competition.

Just looking at one example:

Slovenia has one gold and a gold/million ration of 0.5008. So that would imply the country has a population of 500,000 right?

A quick look on wikipedia says otherwise (at least 2 million currently). Looks like bullshit to me.

1 gold and 500,000 would be a ratio of 2.

Feel a bit sorry for Australia, and Russia...
They shoudl be the main contenders for 3rd.

So many Silvers.

Kazakhstan is all "IF NOT GOLD, DO NOT BOTHER ATHLETES. SECOND AND THIRD ARE FOR SHIT EATERS."

Worst Korea will also kill their bronze medalist in a country wide ceremony, to show other Koreans the peril of placing anything but first.

I think there should be catch up videos on the BBC, if they're available outside the UK.

I saw plenty, talk about generalizing. Ranking by ratio should only be an interesting fact of point, not anything worth serious discussion, dunno why anyone is getting up in arms over that.

Apart from the US who use whatever ranking system that has them at the top.

USA doesn't take falling short of expectations particularly well. Featured example: Phelp's start at the Olympics was considered a commensurate failure because he had the nerve to not medal among a beastly field and furthermore to lose out on gold by some indiscriminate amount of time.

And the USA choke job in men's volleyball earlier.

So we're then even.

No arms, just putting that categorization in its rightful place.

South Korea's medal count is fucking insane judging from their small population.

population doesn't really matter once you're past a certain level. South Korea has nearly 50 million people, that's more than enough to compete with the top countries. The rules of the IOC make it so

Probably the best, most exciting event of the Olympics thus far.

The build up, the fucking suspense, and the finish were all sublime.

What you need is a stream from the Stadium.

Starting with Rutherford's jump, then seeing Ennis win, her lap of honour, 10k starting, Rutherford winning, Mo Winning, Ennis on the podium.

90 minutes of sheer joy.

Who cares how many medals other nations get or how they get them?

Why can't we just enjoy our successes on their own merits alone? We've had an amazing Games and an amazing night. How many Golds the US/China/Russia/Best Korea/Kazakhstan/Dominican Republic/Palau have is irrelevant.

Hmm I think you should mail the website owner, he would love that.

GB could probably be giving China and the USA a run for their money if they actually encouraged and had better sports programmes outside of football in state schools and local boroughs. I'm sure there are lots of Archers, swimmers etc that could be world standard. If GB really wanted to represent the entire population they really should work on something beyond what they've had for the past decade, they have made some in roads though.

I'm pretty sure my neighbors thought someone was being murdered during the final lap of the men's 10k race. I was screaming RUPPPPPPPP GOOOOOOOOO at the top of my lungs so loud I made the dogs bark
