Besides the whole fastest man in the world aspect, anyone can relate to 100m sprint as a competition as it's something virtually everyone experiences as a kid

I'm surprised people need this explained to them.

Bolt is fast, but if you focus just on their legs, they're just about all going the same rate. At times, it looks like a little russian nesting doll with smaller legs inside the bigger legs. And really, there's a limit to just how fast you can make your legs go; and these athletes have just about all hit it. Bolt is tall and has the benefit of longer legs and a much longer stride than the rest of the field. It's why he can have slightly slower starts and pull ahead by the end of it.

Those are just different sports. But as for Bolt's celeb status its just being widely accepted that the 100m sprint is the ultimate Olympic event. This has been the case way before I first watched the games. And Bolt is the best here.

But the fact that he can move his long ass legs with the same frequency as the shorter guys is what makes him a super freak. It's like he's breaking the laws of physics.

I don't really care much about Gatlin's previous doping ban. It was 6 years ago and he was suspended from competition for 4 years, the fact that he's come back this strong is pretty incredible.

I did an 8.7 sec but it was so fast I escaped the Matrix so I couldn't tell the tale.

Takes more power to keep the same cadence with long legs when compared to short(er) legs though.

That's really cool!

My dad was real big into sports, so he had me play a lot of it when I was younger. There wasn't a girls' football team here at the time so he ended up enrolling me in girls' baseball and swimming instead (he would've preferred cricket, but there weren't any cricket teams at the time). Pretty good at swimming, pretty good at baseball, not bad at cycling or running.

Now I don't really do much of it outside of exercising, lol.
