NBC Nightly News is now giving a whole 3 seconds warning before spoiling the results for their Prime Time coverage. All you can do is laugh at this point.......

So apart from the 4 remaining cycling events can we easily win anything else or is it time to pack it up?

By my reckoning, and from other sources, these are our most likely source of future medals if we were to get any (not including remaining cycling or sailing).

Women's Uneven Bars (Beth Tweddle)

Women's pole vault.
Women's 400m hurdles.
Men's 5000m (Mo Farah)
Men's high jump.
Men's triple jump.

Men's triathlon (Brownlee brothers).

(Where our current seeded fighters have advanced)
Men's Flyweight.
Men's Bantamweight.
Men's Light Welterweight.
Men's Superheavyweight.
Women's Flyweight.
Women's Middleweight.

Kayak Men's sprint 1k
Kayak Men's sprint 200m

Men's 10m Platform (Tom Daley)

Men's and Women's Hockey.

Women's Modern Pentathlon.

Taekwondo (Sarah Stevenson)

Dressage Individual.
Dressage Team.

There are tickets for the football in Manchester, I'm tempted to get one but I don't know if it'll feel like "really" going to the Olympics with it not being in London. Hmm...

We managed to get Paralympic athletic tickets on Friday, should be great.

I meant channels, yeah.

And, yeah, they could shut down two or three of those channels. That's what the networks do here and in other countries I've been to during events like these, and they even open up temporary channels exclusively for the Olympics.
The nature of American cable makes the idea of temporary channels just about impossible, I would say. I mean, how would you manage that? Would NBC be providing them for free, or would the costs get passed on to the consumers (the cable companies' customers)? NBC would of course need to negotiate with every cable provider to get the channels added to their network too, of course. And which tier of cable would they go on? It'd probably be different in different places.

These are not simple questions, and there are regular issues between networks and cable companies... shutdowns, where a channel goes off the air for a while while the cable company and channel owner argue over how much they should be paid, are far from uncommon. Our local ABC station was blocked from my cable for over a week just last month, for instance, thanks to one of these fights.

So yeah, the idea of temporary channels seems complex. NBC does what it does in using those seven channels for its cable programming because they own them. Given how much the Olympics rights cost, they're certainly not going to use anyone elses' stations... Maybe it could happen -- many cable providers certainly have lots of pay-per-view channels, etc -- but it'd be quite a challenge to get done. NBC's solution of webcasting everything for people who pay for full cable's a fairly good solution really, I think.

Oh, and of course, regardless of what's on cable, you still need one of the networks providing the central programming, because not everyone has cable, and not everyone who has cable is paying for 500 channels or something to get these not-going-to-happen temporary channels. (Of course, you can't choose which channels you want, just which tier to pay for, but plenty of people don't buy the more expensive options...), so you certainly need NBC, ABC, CBS, or Fox headlining it. (The last non-NBC Olympics was the 1998 Winter Olympics, which were on CBS. They did a good job from what I remember, though of course the Winter Olympics don't have as many events as the Summer ones do.)

Why? I don't. X-Games is enough.

Snowboarding is in the winter games, why not skateboarding in the summer?

I know, because the summer games have so many more events they're much pickeier about new events than the winter games are, and that makes sense, but given that snowboarding is in the winter games, skateboarding could happen someday I would think.

Gold medals?

I dunno exactly but the boxing team is looking excellent so there's good chances there. Obviously the cyclists, looking good for another equestrian gold possibly. Our core events are almost over but there's still lots to come and there's always surprises. The Russians aren't looking as strong this year so there's every possibility we'll stay 3rd. It's really been excellent so far, no need to worry.

and why did it have to be against the Brazilians, easily the most hateable / unlikeable team of the Olympics :(

Why are they unlikeable?

Don't be so salty.

I'm not terribly familiar with the details of how American cable networks function, but I was really just wondering why a live + tapes format works in places like Brazil, Argentina and Spain, but not in the US.

From my understanding, though, Brazilian cable isn't so different, and temporary channels work here. And yes, they have to be negotiated with each cable provider here too.

Go to the BBC Olympics Website. At the top right, on the yellow banner, select Olympic Sports and choose the sport you want. You'll then see a schedule box under that (Pink arrow). Go back to the day you want, and the list below that (orange box) will update showing you the highlights of all the events on that day

thanks bro.

Men's triathlon (Brownlee brothers).

I had totally never heard of these two before, they've won the last 3 World Championships, one winning two and the other winning one. I never knew we were so good at Triathlon.

Two Brazilian victories in Volleyball (beach and indoor) to close the day. \o/

Even our Basketball girls have won today. Thanks GB for being such a nice host and allowing them to win at least one match.

Brazil's still so bad on these games, though.

i dont know them but they just beat my team, so yeah i dont like them :( Sorry, best of luck for the rest of the tourney though! Always best to go out against the eventual Champions.

You guys did pretty well. That near comeback in the second set had me a little scared, haha.

Enjoy! I noticed they've released the tickets for tomorrow's athletics at the Olympic Stadium, but the cost of trains and getting back to Liverpool without having to pay for a hotel for a night makes it much more expensive for me to get to a London event - probably looking at £200+, at least.

I may just get a ticket for the quarter final on Tuesday at Old Trafford if there's any left by the time I've checked if I can get the time off work tomorrow morning - at least it's something I guess, although it isn't in London.

Edit: What am I on about, don't need time off work haha, it's at night time.

God I hate Frankie Boyle he's a hack that has to rely on shock humour to get a laugh 99% of the time, I don't mind offensive humour in the slightest but jut don't find the guy funny

Anyway proud to be British right now and hope we can make Louis Smith and KJT into role models in place of Towie types!

My hopes exactly, I know of a few people who arnt bothered about the olympics and would rather let their kids watch TOWIE, such a shame. I wish these untalented idiots were wiped from our tv screens.

Right, decided I'm going to price up travel to and from London tomorrow, and then if it's reasonable enough along with the cost of a ticket, try and get tickets for the evening athletics session (tomorrow evening's is still on sale and has been for a couple of hours so hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult if I get on the site quick).

Depends if there are trains back to Liverpool afterwards though, bit of a big ask considering the time of night.

Only £450 tickets though..

Anyone know what the top that the team gb guys usually wear under their tracksuits?

I'd like to get something but the most commonly available is the football tops and they don't quite capture the spirit of the team in fact most our footballers are the opposite

The incomparable Ezekiel Kemboi announced the end of his track career mere moments after his gold medal performance.

"I had planned to quit while at the top. I have two Olympic titles, two world titles and one Commonwealth title. That is enough. I will henceforth run marathon," he told reporters.
LOL.

Someone threw a bottle during the race?

At the start of the race. Also:

According to twitter the guy who threw the bottle on to the track got punched in the face by a Dutch athlete who was sitting near him and she had won bronze in the Judo.

Edith Bosch the name of the athlete. Her twitter.

Punch in the face seems to have been overstated somewhat by other twitter users. She hit him though.
