If Americans are seriously proud of their win then they need to watch more football.

While I disagree with the penalty decision, every season in every league there is at least a dozen penalties more dubious than one that was legitimately handled by two players in the box, though accidentally. Given the speed of the situation, most would probably consider it an understandable mistake, as long as you're not Canadian.

What in the hell is the point of these bicycle races where they go incredibly slow for two or three laps while the guy in front just looks at the guy behind him?

WTF?

They are given like two laps to gain speed and then its the final lap that is timed. This means there is some strategy involved. If you wanted to you could sprint right from the get go and some people have done that. It is kind of like car racing where they do their qualifying. They don't qualify on their lap where they are completely stopped, they do a lap to get up to speed so they start a lap going the fastest possible speed.

The penalty is a 50/50 call but when you call an indirect free kick for 6 second violation when they are never ever called and it wasn't even clear that it was a 6 second violation, you fucked up as a ref and took the players out of the game.

This bike racing shit is so stupid. Yeah, the guy who starts in front wins, what a surprise.

Well if you actually watch (only 2 minutes, not very taxing) you'll see that's not true, and it comes down to the wire, it's a game of tactics and isn't stupid whatsoever. But I guess people don't like what they don't understand ...

On the first lap both cyclists trying to see who is going to make the first move . If one cyclists starts to sprint he leaves a slipstream for the guy behind to take advantage of and use ~30% less energy. But he sprints first but can catch his opponent by surprise.

London 2012 Olympics: Day 11 must-see moments

Here are Tuesday's events to watch out for (all times BST):

Full schedule available on BBC Sport website

...

Dempsey and Bryony Shaw reach their medal races - possibly the last-ever windsurfing races at an Olympics, with the sport set to be replaced by kiteboarding for Rio 2016.

I just looked up kiteboarding. That's... going to be interesting.

My, that's confusing. Interesting, though. I was wondering why they didn't just go! :)

Just got back from being out all afternoon. I know I am late but fuck that referee for giving the Americans the win. This was the worst officiated game of football I have ever seen since South Korea vs Italy and Spain in the 2002 World Cup.

I have personally never seen an indirect free kick awarded for time wasting (was that even time wasting?) in over 20 years. Most time wasting is a verbal warning follow by a yellow card. I wonder if anyone recall a similar incident in a major tournament. This ref made so shitty calls against one side she is clearly bias.

Also the Americans were classless with Wambach calling a dive on the Canadian when she spiked the Canadian.

Hope Solo questioned herself if she should really play clean after the WC final. I guess they found the answer. People should enjoy the relatively clean game while it lasts.

Pure bullshit and I hope the Japanese run circles around the Americans like they did in the World Cup.

USA was the better team but wasted lots of chance. Japan was efficient enough to get a tie and the eventual PK win. Japan seems to be below their WC form so they will have a tough battle ahead.

Sinclair outclassed the entire American squad and showed that Alex Morgan is nothing.

Sinclair was great, but Alex Morgan is far from nothing.

Wait ... seriously? Damn, I really enjoy the fact that women's soccer is cleaner than men's :\

A wins a win. Can't control what the refs do, just have to make the most out of the situations handed to you.

Sorry Big-E. I'm Canadian and trust me, I feel your pain too and am SUPER upset over the refs just gift-wrapping that PK goal for the Americans.

But I gotta agree with woolley, when it comes to competitive sports, no one cares how they win, as long as they win.

I'm a hypocrite because when my team wins on a controversy I don't care and say "too bad for u".

But when I'm on the losing end I'm call for the head of all referees and opposing players!

But objectively I understand both sides. Don't forget when Canada won the summer series against Russia in '72, one of our players cheated by purposely injuring their star player. How does Canada feel bout it? DON'T CARE! In fact they embrace it.

But ya. Fuck the refs and damn you America!!! Canada deserved to complete their amazing underdog story. They deserved to be in the finals and make history for us! If we won this match it owuld have gone down as one of the greatest Canadian Olympic events.

Super proud of the team.

Hope Solo is hot, but the stuffs she speak often sounds very douchey.

NBA doesn't call double dribble/travel as much and lane violations during FTs, doesn't mean it's not the rule. I understand when they actually called it during crucial moments it stands out. Dubious calls happen, it's part of the game.

Super proud of the team.

I am not proud about 72 for that reason. Should have been our best against their best but because Bobby Clarke did what he was told to do, Canada had the huge advantage. When I played sport I always wanted to win without controversy, no one wants to win with controversy. If the Americans acknowledged they got lucky it would be ok but when Wambach called the Canadian a diver when she spiked her than they are poor sports.

Isinbayeva looked SO GODDAMN HAPPY with her Bronze medal when answering a Brazilian journalist's questions.

Now I'm happy too, haha.

You have to give Bobby Clarke a little credit at least he manned up about it. He didn't whine and deny it or say the guy took a dive. Also that was probable the worst in the series but it's not like the Russians were Saints.

Then you are a true purist. Because I am like 99% of all other athletes, we will take the win anyway we can on any questionable call, we don't care.

Oh I know. Bobby Clarke always told it straight and like him a lot. He was told to do it and he did it for the team which I respect but the order and the fact the Soviets were missing their best player and it still took are all takes away from it. 2010 was bigger than 72 for this reason.

There is a difference from taking the win and then gloating about it. I would take the win too and I wasn't so angry with the Amerians in the football untill Wambach called the Canadian a diver when she spiked the non kicking foot.

The problem isn't "taking the win", it's being condescending towards Canadians by saying they're "salty" and all that like you deserved it.

"Sorry Canadians, but I'm glad we won."

I know, being classy and respectful is hard.

So instead...

"U MAD HURR MURICA"

This is NeoGAF. At least half the "salt" posts are dead serious.

A bit late, but no I wasn't deadly serious.

There is a lot of Canadian salt in this thread, but it's understandable. If the situation was flipped, we probably would have completed plans to melt the Canadian continental shelve with our secret Death Heat ray (otherwise known as our US Highway system).

But despite the ref briefly sticking his thumb on the scale, Canada had more than enough opportunities to win the game (three to be exact), but they kept conceding goals and allowing the US to cross the ball through the six yard box at will. If you score 3 goals (and you're scoring first), you should win the game. If you end up allowing 4 goals, that's not all on the refs.

Still very exciting game though. Canadian soccer was put on the map today.

I didn't hear about any of that as I had to leave right after the game. I'll catch the highlights later on TSN.

But in that case.

F U TEAM USA!!! JAPAN IS GONNA EAT WAMBACH'S DICK LIKE KOBAYASHI!!!!!

You act as if Canada didn't get any calls. The USA just capitalized on theirs.

Tancredi was getting away with tons of bullshit all game long.

Wow, USA capitalized on a penalty kick. That team is good.

Come on.

Again the penalty kick is a 50 50 call if you want to take the rule to the letter but the goalie delay was comical. Refs, judges, officials in these Olympics have been garbage.

Damn shame the refs had to pick the winners. It was an otherwise amazing match!

That it was.

Your trying to downplay how good a team is just because of a call the ref made. They can't control that and they aren't less good for taking the shot given to them.

I'm not trying to downplay anyone. My point was that:

Tancredi was getting away with tons of bullshit all game long.

Can't be compared with that ridiculous penalty.
