Anyone else looking forward to the possible all US final in women's beach volleyball? I think that's the main thing I'm going to be watching tomorrow.

Aliya Mustafina, turns 18 next month, is the superior gymnast with an attitude at these games.

they always look like they are about to cry.

Can someone explain to me what exactly "salt" means? I'm guessing it is in reference to tears but could be way off?

Also why is it seen so often in this thread all of the sudden. A GAF thing, or some new Internet buzz word that I just missed?

I just hope Walsh and May lose...stupid extended last names and all...one with a hyphen.
What you got against hyphenated last names that are there to keep the team and player established brandname while simultaneously keeping their spouses happy, bro?

Misty and Kerry for gold!

Tears are salty. Someone whining = being salty, salt. It's said irl not just gaf. And as for this thread, well, there are many different citizens of different countries here, some win, some lose, some cry and some make fun of others. Things happen in competitions. (I dunno someone just started saying it and then everyone else did)

People who can't express their argument in proper sentences. Another variation of "U Mad?"

(Women's Soccer)

Just watched the extra time periods of the USA-Canada game. Wow! Fantastic finish.

I was shouting at after that Morgan 122 minute header.

dat rematch final

Gonna be fun.

She called a foul on McLeod for a six-second violation — time wasting in other words, though nobody’s foolish enough to begin eating the clock with 20 minutes to go.

No warning was given, according to McLeod. That’s the form — warning first. You want another theme? This has been the Army Olympics, the Empty Olympics and the Angry Olympics. Now it’s the Making Things Up As You Go The Hell Along Olympics.

Regardless of the warning, how often is that call made?

“I’ve never seen that before,” U.S. coach Pia Sundhage said afterward. Sundhage has worked in the game since they used mammoth tusks for goalposts.

She’s never seen it because that call is never made. Never.

Still scratching my head as to why the US was awarded that penality kick. We deserved better. Oh well, at least the women will still have a chance to play for a medal.

Keepers get yellows for time wasting all the time but I'd never seen a free kick awarded either. I'm not sure if that's a rule that just isn't usually used or limited to women's soccer or what. I know it was mentioned that both sides were warned at half time so it's not like the time wasting call came out of nowhere.

I just saw this rule is indeed clearly defined in the FIFA rulebook although it's essentially never called: http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/lawsofthegame/law/newsid=1290868.html

An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a goalkeeper, inside his own penalty area, commits any of the following four offences:

controls the ball with his hands for more than six seconds before releasing it from his possession
touches the ball again with his hands after he has released it from his possession and before it has touched another player
touches the ball with his hands after it has been deliberately kicked to him by a team-mate
touches the ball with his hands after he has received it directly from a throw-in taken by a team-mate

The BBC announcer actually called it right before the ref did. I assume it's because he noticed the american player counting it off with the ref.

Just watched the entire replay of the USA v. Canada soccer game and HOLY CRAP was that a good watch. I assume everyone is talking about the Time Wasting penalty and resulting PK?

*reads a little of the thread*

Hah, yup. Welp, that's soccer for you. It's not a good game if there isn't a crazy nonsense call somewhere in there.

Triathlon should be fun to watch. Starts in 4 hours.
1500m swim race, followed by a 43km bike race, finishing with a 10km run.
