Apparently the whole lead group thing was all part of the plan for the Brownlees to tire out their competitors... apparently if they're in the lead or near it after the cycling then they've won, because nobody can contest them in the running. I hope the fifteen second penalty isn't true, knowing our record with penalties this Olympics it will be.

It is true. welp.

Nobody is going sub 19, almost as ridiculous as the some of the sub 9.50 predictions for the 100 around here.
Sub 9.5 was possible, if Bolt had been less wary of his start. You're suggesting that Bolt and Blake knocking 0.2 and 0.27 seconds off their best times is ridiculous?

You are crazy about badminton and diving. Not sure about trampoline and sync swimming.

I think diving is incredibly boring. Badminton is boring, but a little less so. I would have said ping pong before, but I watched a couple of matches and they were fun to watch.

my removals were very carefully thought of. Rythmic gymnastics is INCREADIBLY subjective for the judges, it often isn't clear why someone won.

There are too many swimming events. No I'm not saying this because GB did shit, it's just that the amount of events is unreal. Also they should do what they did in the cycling and limit the amount of events people can enter. Phelps is amazing, but how is it fair that he can win 18+ golds, but someone who won the Triathalon 5 times in a row only gets 5 Golds.

There are more athletic events than swimming events and track and field athletes can compete in however many events they want AFAIK. FINA needs to add the 50m version of back, breast, and butterfly. I heard they are considering adding a mixed relay, which is being implemented at the next world championships.

Fair has got nothing to do with it. How would someone in Triathlon win more golds in one olympic event? Michael Jordan "only" has 2 gold medals. If Brazil wins gold in soccer, volleyball, and basketball they still only have 3 gold medals. Cuba can pass that in boxing alone. It's just the way it goes. Phelps just happened to be really good at plenty of events that awarded medals.

Am I the only one wondering why we still have competitions for obsoleted ways of swimming ? (butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke) ? I'm positive everyone would scoff at the idea of having multiple high jumps competitions with different ways of jumping the bar... why does swimming gets a free pass ? Only freestyle with all the different distances the athletes are competing in is enough, in my opinion.

Some people are greatly underestimating the importance of weather. Having the final late evening will significantly drag down the times. Also Bolt ain't risking a false start in the Olympics just to try to max out the record.

He can definitely hit sub 19, but he would hit it at a slightly lesser important event, and in warmer conditions.

Sub 9.5 would've been impossible. His start wasnt that bad, well maybe he could've shaved 0.02s off his reaction time but that doesnt mean he'll automatically run 0.14s faster.

I think Lemaitre will be able to take bronze. Had a superb finish.

Nah, I think Wier is a better bet, he had a headwind and wasn't even going at full pelt for the last 60m. There's also a couple of Americans who will be faster than Lemaitre. Lemaitre is fast for a white European and his PB of 19.80 is a great time, but the Americans regularly get under 19.7 while Bolt and Blake probably have gold and silver sewn up.

Uhh, yeah, since that would be a huge improvement. Why don't you take a look at Bolt's 10m splits for his 9.63 and then try to argue that he could have ran sub 9.5 in that race. Also adjusted for wind Bolt's 9.63 is slower than his Beijing time of 9.69.

I'm saying it because Lemaitre had an mediocre start and Weir's PB is 19.99.

How many Badminton matches have you watched? Badminton had some of the best matches of the Olympics (and I'm one of those who never watched it before), the men's final was amazing.

Wier looks like he has a lot left in the tank, and that's without considering Spearmon who can go 19.6, and I don't know if Gay is running, because if he is then he can go 19.6 as well.

That seems sensible, or they could add a 50m and 150m sprint to the track. Also skip-skip-jump, hop-hop-hop, skip-hop-jump and so on to the the triple jump. Maybe a quadrule jump.

Who's the fastest man running backwards, that's something we really need to know.

There are only 5 americans all time that have gone under 19.7, only one of them is in these Olympics (Wallace Spearmon) and he has only done it once and it was 6 years ago.

Every time with that pessimism...

Haha, I don't like being optimistic about sports, when we lose it just makes it an even worse feeling!!

Well there are two brothers, and only one of them has a penalty. He's sprinting ahead now to try and mitigate the penalty (or not).

Ok thanks, did he deserve that penatly? Hopefully he can appeal it if he didn't. Gah come on Brownlee Brothers!!!!!!!
