You could use it as tax breaks for Video game development seen as they have stated it will be alot less than any £80m a year spent if it gets approved.

Honestly I would love to see what would happen if we decided not to go to Rio or even the Olympics after that in 2020.

Can't hate on Spain though. They threw the game but weren't blatant about it like the Chinese and Koreans were. They used the rules to their favors. Kinda like how Norway did in women's handball.

Brazil was too dumb to realize that even though they all knew that France and then Russia would be easier than Argentina and then USA.
 
Have these guys been doing all the Aussie games on the BBC or something? I guess John & Mike have a night off, after that France Vs. Spain game.
 
You'd think USA would be a bit more on top of the fouls after the Argentina match up, Argentina will draw them into a lot of that again if they make it through

£80m a year spent on VG tax break wouldn't even make a scratch. What is being proposed right now is around £300m a year for games, animation and CG production. That's already more than £80m a year. £80m in budget rebates would be gone within minutes and make no difference to the state of the industry in the UK, not only that, but there is already a tax break lined up for 2013.

Giving kids aspiration to be a great sports person is worth much more than the £80m price, if you can't see that then you need to get a reality check. £80m a year doesn't make a scratch on other government spending while it has transformed our sporting ability as a nation and given kids something to aspire to, something other than X-Factor or TOWIE and other such dross.

That would count as arts funding. Not IT.
 
I still don't get how these international refs call loose ball fouls.. People going over the back for every damn loose ball, tugging on shirts, pushing in the back, etc.

Refs aren't consistently calling anything.
 
Oh shit, this is late but it's cool to see Lopez Lomong still running (and qualifying for the 5000m final) I remember seeing him run in person in high school and blown away by his speed in cross country. His personal story is really interesting too.

Here's the thing: USA isn't really playing or shooting well and they're up 14. They're the only tam in the tournament that can disrupt what the opposing team is trying to run on offense, that's a game changer.

Yes they are proposing that but it comes out of the same pot where there are two other industries eating into tax breaks. Now if we can get video games tax breaks of a definite 180m a year - way better proposition.

Giving kids the ambition to learn sciences at school and want to become scientists/programmers/engineers is more important than wanting to become a fame hound.

That is part of what has made Team GB cycling so successful, getting out to the schools, running sessions and nurturing the talent. Guess how British cycling is principally funded? National Lottery and Sport England (with a lot of big sponsors). So maybe the answer is for National Lottery to apply pressure to the sporting federations to increase their intake from comprehensives and disadvantaged kids.

I'm no class warrior. I want to increase social mobility and I love sport. Sport has massive health and community benefits for those that undertake it and I want to see more success and wider participation (They both go hand in hand). But as everybody now knows that 50% of British medalists come from independent schools, and that pat of the reason for Team GB's success has come from funding from the National Lottery, has no one else put put two and two together and queried whether or not this was entirely fair? imo the remit for funding from the National lottery (to both athletes and sporting bodies) should encompass more than just performance.

So you're just a gaming nut who wants to prioritise spending to games over sports. Well boo-fucking-hoo. Let the companies monetise their product better, I support the idea of a tax break for all creative industries, but really they have to fend for themselves eventually.

Giving kids ambition to be anything other than big brother idiots or on X-Factor is where the nation is right now, we have to walk before we can run. The Olympics is a good way of showing what hard work can achieve. Telling a kid that they can be champion of the world is much easier than explaining that they can be involved in making some game if they study at uni for three years and then get lucky.

I agree that getting kids involved in science and tech and inspiring them to be scientists would be great, but really until we begin to teach programming at a primary level it seems unlikely that this is achievable.

On the tax breaks, the split hasn't been confirmed. It seems unlikely that it will be split equally three ways as gaming is a much larger industry than animation and CGI in the UK. It is likely to be £200m, £60m, £40m, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Well they are adapting the cycling and rowing model for swimming and athletics so you will get your wish.

I wonder why the fuck it is that no-one is asking Cameron the hard questions about this given he's using the Olympics as a springboard for his own personal gain.

If nothing else we should be able to get a guarantee of no further cuts or sales.
