' Swimming in rivers in China was probably the worst thing I've done in my life, with dead animals all of the way down the river”

Keri-Anne Payne'

LOL, lets hope the river in London you'll be swimming in isn't so bad!

You guys gotta believe man. I believed that the US men's archery team would beat the Korean team and it happened. Just saying.

I still can't believe dude from france hit the dude in the nuts. Like Legit did it and acted like nothing happened lol.

oh no he didnt. Batum hit brosef in the sack then yelled "there's a flop" at the Spanish bench. cant really hear it, but you an read his lips as he yells at the Spanish players on the bench, just after the ref hauls him over to the sidelines. he was almost proud of it.

My 200 meter prediction is Bolt and Blake 19.20-19.30. One or two barely under 20 for the rest of the field.

I don't think Bolt or Blake will ever go under 19, but I didn't expect Bolt would break 9.6, either.

Bob Costas on NBC:

"tonight we have the all-american beach volleyball final, womens 200m final and mens 110m hurdle final, but lets start with the boring shit first so you all have to watch the whole night: more diving"

actual quote!

haha
but, seriously, why is diving still happening!?

Because it's fecking hilarious.

Where can I find a list of all the US Gold medal hopeful events for tomorrow?

Off the top of my head

Women's soccer gold medal match

Women's water polo gold medal match

Men's Decathlon

Men's triple jump

Women's boxer is in a gold medal match.

Bolt won't go below 19. No way. His 100m record is 9.58s I think, and that times two is 19.16s. His 100m time for these Olympics was 9.63s which times two is 19.26s. So I think his time will be between those numbers, maybe something like 19.17 if we're lucky.

For most of history, the 200m has been faster than the 100m in terms of average speed, and simply multipying the 100m time by 2 would give you a longer time than would actually occur. That is, until Michael Johnson (and now Usain Bolt). The reason is, of course, the start and buildup phase of the 100m (which ends after about 30m) is the slowest part of the run. Once they have their heads and torsos up, they are at cruise velocity which is damn fast.

USA women's volleyball chick just did a really funny dance across the sand after winning. I hope someone caught that and is making a gif because it cracked me up.

That 200m race is unreal, everyone looks like they're running for their lives while Usain just casually jogs along and still wins.

Holy shit, Denisa Roslova...

7th in the 400m hurdling final but first in my heart.

I think China can hold on. Diving probably will get 2 more gold medals. Will be busy rooting for teams/athletes who are fighting for gold against US tomorrow. ;)

US should get two more golds from Men's and Women's basketball, and a possible gold in Women's soccer.

We'll win in overall medals which is how Americans count the standings anyway. Ask anyone in America who won the medal race in 2008 and most of them will say the USA, even though China won more gold.

So if Bolt matches his 9.27 secs last 100 metres time from his record breaking 19.19 run, he'd need to run the the first 100 metres in 9.72 secs to finish with a time of 18.99

Believe!

The CTVOlympics stream hasn't been working the entire day. Am I the only one?

edit: Seems like all I had to do is reset the router.. missed an entire day. T_T

I haven't been visiting this thread, so I'm not sure if I'm alone in this thought.

I am frequently skeptical of so many athletes who deliver these stunning performances, particularly the track and field events.

plus track relays, plus decathlon, triple jump, possibly water polo..it is more likely than not that US gets more golds.

There are some people to be skeptical but only 2 Olympic records have been broken on the men's side (Usain bolt's 9.63 and Chen Ding's 20km racewalk). Same on the women's side - OR in the marathon and 100m hurdles. And I'm just talking about OR and not world records so I don't see why you should be much more skeptical of the guys in track and field than swimming or cycling.

If you are contend with total medal winner then I will happily take the gold medal count. :)
