Americans do realise if it wasn't for you calling Football "Soccer" you would get to host the world cup again? Bringing in Billions in tourism into your country. Talk about shooting youself in the foot.

Yes Fifa are that petty.

Its all good. One day the rest of the world will wake up and embrace football as the one true king. Till then they can enjoy their soccer.

Pretty sure it has less to do with that than it does to do with straight-up bribery by people in Qatar, Rio, etc.

Can't believe the Aussies are actually winning at half time versus the women. Taurisi and co better step their game up... has the US ever not won the gold at women's basketball? (Edit: In 76 and 80 by Russia and 92 by the former Russian states/Unified Team)

USA football they pick it up most of the time maybe change it to Runball?

They should lower the rim in women's basketball. More dunks, and no rainbow shots that send rebounds all over the place.

Second half in the women's handball semifinal between Norway and South Korea just started. If you're gonna watch one women's handball game, make sure it's this one.

Soccer is actually a British term. It's an acronim for the name of different leagues or something... Don't quote me on that tho.

Are there any significant rule changes in Olympic basketball compared to the NBA?

Not really. You can tip the ball off the rim, and you have to put the ball to the floor (dribbling) as soon as you start to move forward.

5 fouls will get you fouled out, but with 10 minute quarters, that's not a huge change.

I don't know what else... oh, no jump ball.

EDIT: Also, 'football' means played on foot, rather than on horseback. It has nothing to do with the fact that Association Rules Football is played often using your feet. In reality, they should call it "No hands except for 2 players ball"

I heard the 3-point line is closer.

Yeah, the 3-pt line is closer to what it is in the NCAA than the NBA. The other major difference is the 5 fouls limit and also the paint is wider (trapezoidal?). At least it was before.. I haven't actually watched a single basketball game this Olympics since they never re-play them on NBC in the evenings.

The trapezoid is gone.

Why do these Taekwondo competitors go "HI-YA!!!!!!!!" and stuff like that. I did that shit whenn I was a little kid but I didn't know people do that for real.

I never understood that whole idea of having to have same height rims and nets on stuff like volleyball etc

i am sure short girls would like to play the same as tall girls. They have weight divisons in other sports, why not height divions... it ends up making it all the same at the end of the day.

Breathing out when you strike is taught in most martial arts, and shouting ki-yaa or whatever just emphasises that, it also builds confidence/intimidates opponents.

Really you should roar rather than shout kiya

Britain needs to be careful we dont suffer the same fate as Australia in future Olympics, to go from winning 20+ Golds to hardly any.

Edit: Bah you said "rule changes"

Rule differences is probably the more correct term.

FIBA rules. Shorter 3pt line. You can swat the ball off the rim. Only the coach can call a timeout.

Thanks guys. I figured there wasn't much. Didn't even realize the periods are 10 minutes each.
