Fuck sake.

Do we have any other worthwhile things to watch other than my man Mo?

A few boxing finalists, Tom Daley (mayyybe...), and I think we have a notable Modern Pentathlete. I've lost track as to how we're doing in the various canoe/kayak disciplines, I think there's a chance or two there. Small chance for Jo Pavey and Julia Bleasdale tonight in the women's 5000m, but don't hold your breath on that one. Mountain biking's a wildcard, I don't know if we've got a quality performer there.

Actually, I've seen an awful lot of times when the BBC have shown events on the major channels which still have no GB involvement. Only when there's no live content that involves GB, understandably, but it's there. My housemate was watching the women's football final yesterday live on broadcast television, and I've definitely seen non-GB hockey matches played out on TV too.

I do not mean what they are showing. Because, even my country, shows almost all events in the olympics.

I mean whats the focus in the London 2012 tv-studios and in all the newspapers.

Olympics studio and all media in general: THIS HAPPENED TODAY AT THE OLYMPICS: "Bolt won 100m, Anna bla boa in preliminaries wrestling in womens 53 kg, Andy bla boa lost in sailing and Carl bla bla out of mens high jump preliminaries. "

Completely ignoring anything else that happened because it had nothing with our athletes to do. That method works, if your a olympic machine like USA, China or UK but not when your a bad olympic nation.

2 silvers, 2 bronze so far today for Team GB. Hardly a terrible day.

Ok it isn't terrible but still disappointment all round. Those 2 silvers were guaranteed, and they unfortunately didn't manage to make them gold. One of the bronzes was gauranteed and unfortunately he couldn't get to the final. Both our Taekwondo people out, one was highly tipped for gold. Both BMX lost out ..

Plus side we got the Bronze in Hockey and one of our boxers is in the final.

I wonder if Gabby will stick *every* face up there. I think they did that with the teams of 4 from before.

I don't think the magnets they're using are very strong, the faces were falling off yesterday, let alone another 16 faces on the bronze board!

So you wouldn't be okay with Liam Messam making an appearance even though he used to be the captain of the NZ sevens team? That's the kind of appearances I'm mostly talking about.

And you can't really talk, you'll be able to select your team from the English, Welsh and Scottish teams (so mostly English and Welsh). That's cheating.

Good luck to China getting a decent team together. Countries like NZ, Aus and GB already have the talent base, coaches and environment already set up, so it'll be pretty easy for them.

I'm fine with ex-sevens players. I don't want to see XV players who have nothing to do with sevens just playing because they are the celebrity names. It will probably happen anyway as IRB have stated they want to use the global stage of the Olympics to promote the XV game.

Playing as GB is not really an advantage. It normally backfires. Look how poorly the Lions do as being together every four years means they never develop as a team, as they are not use to playing together. It's a weakness more than anything.

Why isn't Rugby in the olympics? Seems like a natural fit.

I was surprised to see women's boxing added considering the judging controversy in that sport, so I wonder if there was some sort of sexism pressure. They even removed a division in men's boxing to fit in women's boxing.

Did they remove a track cycling event to add BMX?

Ok someone in the know when it comes to Taekwondo. The Spaniard that beat our British guy, he just beat his other opponent the Italian guy, does that mean our Brit gets to fight for a bronze or does this Spaniard have to win another match?

Oh okay, well yeah, I expect "celebrity" players to struggle anyway. Sevens is a totally different game from XVs and requires an absurdly high fitness level that a lot of XV players would probably baulk at.

And I dunno about that last bit. I don't think the usual sevens circuit will be going on that year, so they might get plenty of time to prepare. The problem with the Lions is that they have to try and fit it into all the ridiculous schedules that players have nowadays. Just speaking from a NZ perspective but it's not like the NZ sevens team stay together every year. Usually there're a few holdovers but they still debut a ton of new players. It just depends on how well they're coached. We're really lucky to have an awesome one that's dedicated his career to sevens.

God, what is it with all the [Australian] ads during the Olympics being utterly obnoxious?

Biggest offenders:

- Subway Steak&Cheese (b'uuuutiful)
- Commbank Ka-ching (THE KEBAB)
- Telstra feat. Men at Work (the ugly choir girl!)
- CANT (all minisodes)
- Coles school stamp shit (TA-DAAAAA)
- everything else as well

SPA - ITA was a semi. The british guy got kicked out in quarter. So no bronze match for him.

Spaniard goes to gold medal final. Italian fights another guy for bronze.

Nah doesn't work like that. Nah doesn't work like that. The italian gets a place to fight for bronze yes, but now the person the Spaniard beat in the QF gets to as well.

Yes it works like that. The GB guy got kicked out in quarter. Why would he fight for bronze when there's another semi-final guy who lost.

Look above you and check the link ;-)

Again, check the link .....
That's the repecharge match. That determines who gets to be declared 5th place, etc.

Edit:
I guess the repecharge winners get to face the semi-final losers.
The two semi-final losers meet the winners of the two repechage pools; these matches determine the winners of two bronze medals.

No. It does not.

As proven here, the Afganistan who went out in the QF won the Bronze. 6 People get to fight the bronze. It doesn't work so cut and dry like other sports.

From BBC news as well

Muhammad admitted his opponent had clearly "done his homework" and the match had not gone according to plan.

He could make the repechage and contest for bronze if Hemme reaches the final.

Hemme just reached the final.

I'm not watching the Russia/Spain game but it looks like it's horrible. I kind of wish the US lost in the preliminary round so they'd get a wake up call to actually put some effort into their defense. Yeah, they lost in Athens but that team seemed to take everything for granted and didn't realize that basketball had become a worldwide sport. If Kobe's statement is anything to go by (lol), this team could definitely come close to shutting a lot of the other teams out, similar to what the Dream Team did to the college players in '92.
