Well, she came second in a competition where she was a class above her competitors because of a mistake; Tom was lucky to get Bronze.

Yep, it's all about personal expectations.
Well he lost for 1 point, in Diving is pretty much nothing.
Tom Daley's bronze is not a disappointment, but he won the World Championship against the Chinese diver, so the gold was possible.
The Italian commentators just said all the stadium sang Oasis' Wonderwall, I need to watch this.
Bronze, but yeah I agree particularly when Adlington was actually really happy to get hers

Adlington was a former Gold medal winner and was expected [unreasonably] to repeat her success. Not that I don't find the media coverage of Daily excessive [especially during the opening ceremony], but he did well to win anything and the commentary reflects that.

Fair enough. That's my main problem with him, the media whirlwind surrounding him. Some athletes are distraught with a silver medal and yet Daley's celebrations were ott for a bronze IMO. Some athletes with the media buzz around them (like Mo and Jessica Ennis) delivered with golds. And something irks me about how slick he is with the media. It just rubs me the wrong way. I prefer seeing athletes who haven't been trained by media companies for years on end.
He's going to get a nice media job after this, but he's never going to be number 1, even though he just celebrated like he is.
Still a massive achievement though, so congrats.
