That's part of the reason why host nations receive an average 40% medal bump in their final tally. More teams sent = more opportunities to medal.

Nah, don't think that makes a difference. Host nation teams automatically qualify for events, so you can throw athletes at events that perhaps wouldn't qualify normally. Those guys will never medal, but it's great to get the experience of a major competition - and a home one too.

The main reason some home teams get a boost is financial. A host nation doesn't want to be embarassed so they'll invest more in sports and that reaps rewards. Team GB I think started investing even before they won the Olympic bid, so we did really well in Beijing.

i can't believe it's all but over now. been an unforgettable two weeks. so proud of the show we helped put on for the world, amazed at what team gb achieved and in love with how positive the country has been this fortnight.

I've seen this mentioned, but I think it's referring to their advert for *their* coverage of the paralympics (on 5 Live) - but it's reasonable to point out that in doing so it's promoting the paralympics itself and everything relating to it - including, of course, *all* the coverage of it.

I've not seen an explicit reference to the paralympics being on Channel 4 in an advert on the BBC.

They have aired the Channel 4 one. Not many times, mind - and with 5Live logo next to 4 on the endcap. They even stuck it on the One Show. They're moving to their BBC 5Live advert as of today.

This has been my first real multimedia Olympics. Sitting there with my HDTV in front of me, 24 glorious HD channels showing every event live, the GAF thread on my iPad on my lap, and the BBC sports website open in another tab to check schedules and sometimes watch another event at the same time.

Just amazing.

Fair enough, I stand corrected. In which case, credit to them for doing that!

This. I don't want it to go back to normal :(

Just in case Brit-GAF wasn't feeling patriotic enough.

Long live the BBC.

BBC's boss of the Olympics: Thanks for the great comments about the Eddie Butler film now running. It will be re-broadcast as an hour Monday night 10.35pm BBC1 #BBC2012

The last two pages have been so bittersweet. Missed most of the Olympics because of a euro trip.

Then again, though, it would've been on at stupid o'clock in Australia anyway.

Watching the 100m final in a pub in Amsterdam was amazing though.

They showed an amazing montage inbetween taekwondo fights when I was at Excel yesterday. Was set to a Muse song. I hope it was a BBC jobbie, I NEED to see it again.

What an amazing 2 weeks starting with that amazing opening ceremony. Highlight for me as a brit was goldrush saturday. Looking forward to the closing ceremony and the paralympics!
