Am i right?

So Monty Python are the first to swear at a British funeral eulogy and the first to swear during an Olympic closing ceremony, impressive.

The London cauldron was a cool gimmick, but the fact that it was made that way meant it was on the sidelines all the time. You never saw it. It wasn't imposing at all.

Is it supposed to be imposing? But I would have liked to see them raise it up... should have been doable.

Far more important to me is that everyone was involved in its creation. Fits the Olympics perfectly.

Wait, just looked back through the thread, why was everyone saying eric idle vs bollywood??

It was Bhangra people not Bollywood!

Of course it's supposed to be imposing. It's the biggest symbol of the Games.

Seeing it there sitting barely in view in the Stadium made me literally sad.

Watching it during the opening and closing was pretty cool, but during the games... Well, might as well not even have a cauldron.

Who cares? It was beautiful.

I care.

Honestly these were great games, in my opinion the best things:
1.- The Opening ceremony with the exception of the musical part.
2.- The crouds, really british are a great audience.
3.- Usain Bolt trolling.
4.- The cauldron design was great, the light not so much.
5.- Competitions were great.

And the worst:
1.- The musical part in the opening ceremony.
2.- Gabby Douglas's hair controversy .... seriously America.
3.- The badminton teams from China and South Korea.
4.- NBC
5.- The lack of British history and literature in the opening ceremony. (Where're the britons, the saxons, the celts? Tolkien?)

Exactly this, the idea that all 204 nations are represented in the flame is very fitting. No other games has achieved that.

That was the most Olympics I have ever watched. It's weird to think I will be 27 and in a different stage in my life when the Rio summer games come. When those happen, I will go right back to watching streams whether I am at work or at home. It was fun, GAF.

Also, looking forward to more pretty athletes at the winter games and Rio.

Ha! Brilliant.

I've been consistently amazed by the coverage on the BBC, particularly online. Their systems seemed to get the most enormous upgrade, and after just a short 'beta' period in some events leading up to the Olympics, they were up and running flawlessly from start to finish. I'd love to see a documentary dedicated to the BBC's tech and work behind the scenes.

So, it's time for a 'girls of the Olympics' thread, amirite?

Edit: It could be a "guys and girls of the Olympics" too of course. :P

5.- The lack of British history and literature in the opening ceremony. (Where're the britons, the saxons, the celts? Tolkien?)

Peter pan, Mary poppins, 101 Dalmatians, Harry Potter, NHS, industrial Revolution, etc all British. It's to late to think but we represented what we needed to do to set the mood.

We need an ID Brit-GAF!
Indeed we do.

Anyway what a great achievement London 2012 was. It was all absolutely superb, and I'll dearly miss it. Bear in mind this is coming from someone who was a complete skeptic before it started.

It has been a pleasure sharing it with you GAF.

Now bring on the Paralympic games and Rio!

We got it, I'll quout again!

Never seen so much Olympic coverage in my life.

Thank you, BBC.

Yes; I feel like I had a glimpse of the future with all the channels available and live streams that could be rewinded (and had bookmarks). I'm afraid I won't see anything like that again for a long time.
