Is the option more effective later in the season when they have it down to a science, or have defensive coordinators figured out its weaknesses by that point?
It's still a team coming off a BCS victory.
All of CFB is diminishing returns (except for Alabama and LSU) Just look at the other teams in the spots around Michigan. Alot of them performed poorly/substandard.
Face it, top 10 is the new top 20.
And it's only happened once before (2008 Clemson), who no one up knew was going to belly up. 2009 VT was standard VT (OK, but not OKK) and Penn State were token top 25's, just like 10 teams are every year.
Saban talked about something like this in his PC. Specifically playing Georgia Southern late last year. The Option was so different than anything else they played, and since it was at the end of the year, which meant limited prep time, the Option killed us (which it did). So, I think later in the season is worse for teams to face GT. They've gotten better at it, while opposing teams have spent most of the season prepping for more "standard" types of offenses, and not for the Option.

Thankfully FSU performed as they should, by hanging 69 points on an FCS team. Can't exactly say that for other teams ranked around them. I expect them to top 69 against Savannah State.
It's more that you don't have time to devote to practicing how to stop it. The triple option has been around forever, so stopping it isn't rocket science for the defesnive coordinators. It's so different from anything else you will face that you have to change your whole gameplan to stop it.
Look at Georgia Southern v. Alabama last year. They put up some 300+ rushing yards on us, all because of the triple option and Saban not dedicating enough time to practice stopping it.
Paul Johnson likes to deny it, but his record against teams with more than 1 week to prepare is something like 5-10 (at GT, before last night). Plus you dont spend time in practice just prepping for cut blocks.

Interesting fact just tweeted by ESPN's Chris Fowler. Excluding the Alabama v Michigan game, the other 8 teams in the Top 10 went 1-7 against the point spread. From what I looked up, FSU was the only team to beat the spread (they were a 44 point favorite over Murray State, won 69 to 3).

I know it was just against FCS Northwestern State but Tech holding them to under 100 total yards (they got 86) makes me feel pretty good. Considering last year when -
1. we were the worst defense in the country
2. we gave up 331 yards to Texas State and 337 yards to New Mexico, two schools whose teams were so bad last season they were both in the week 1 "Bottom Ten" on ESPN this year
3. we averaged giving up ~486 yards per game
4. we only held one team to fewer than 86 passing OR rushing yards last season (Texas State only had 75 passing to go with 256 rushing)
I'll take under 100 total yards given up versus practically anybody as a good sign. Second string offense got a lot of work late in the game as well.

I had 8 out of 14 in there! Which was, I think every SEC team that one except for Ole Miss, TAMU, and Tennessee (because screw the Vols!).
It depends.. If you face it every year, then you know it doesn't change and hasn't changed in 50 years. They have more success against teams that rarely face them. Once you've seen it once, you know what they're going to do every year.

Two, unfortunately. Murray State was always on the schedule. West Virginia was supposed to be coming to town this Saturday, but they got scared and backed out of the game in like March. We had to scramble to find another team to play that was willing to come to Tallahassee this weekend (otherwise we'd have to move our bye and have a short week going into Virginia Tech on a Thursday). Savannah State was the only team available.
Complain all you want about FSU's strength of schedule this year, but it's not our fault that WVU fucked us over.

I felt kinda bad for Mike Leach during that BYU game. Obvoiusly I wanted my Cougars to win, but I really hope Leach finds success up at Washington State. I still feel like his dismissal from Texas Tech was ridiculous, and I'd love nothing more than for him to be just as, if not more, successful than he was before.
BYU looked good, but maybe WSU was just a step up from I-AA, I'm not sure. I didn't like how many FGs BYU kicked in the red zone.

Sure, but they just looked completely incapable. Heck, they wouldn't have even got the 6 points if the Pac-12 refs didn't keep moving the ball forward 15 yards for Pac-12 reasons. I guess the biggest issue he's facing is that it doesn't look like anybody on that offense is built to run his system at this time.
Since you mentioned dive food places.. Try Dirty Frank's. Hounddogs Pizza is another option in that category. Dirty Frank's is actually really clean, it's just tiny. Night before a game, I can't imagine going there, but good luck if you do.

The talent as Wazzu wasn't exactly setting the world on fire in the first place. I say it takes another year, but he might be able to get a game or two this season with Leach magic.
Probably against Cal.
