Borderlands 2 - PC Performance Thread

If my latop at 1366x768 (ati mobility radeon 5650) can play Borderlands 1 well, should I worry for this second game?

I bought the game even with season pass for laptop and I have same card as you.
I downloaded this to see what fps I can get on UE3. On medium it runs pretty great - good fps. Mirror's Edge is smooth as hell on 1360x768 with EVERYTHING MAXED.

I can tell you on Friday. Can't wait. And I am not scared that it won't be running smoothly with some fiddling with the options.

Once activated through VPN you shouldn't have to use it anymore to play the game. Well, I haven't done it for Borderlands 2 (Friday'll come soon enough) but I did that for Darksiders II and it worked fine.

Why would there be a risk?

Aside from using a less-than-reliable soft with spywares attached.

Hmm, so is the one in the OP full of spyware?

Just not too sure about how steam would react to it. Do I just run the VPN software once, unlock it, and then don't have to worry about it anymore?

Just a tip for those with AMD cards wanting this: Make sure you google 'PhysX installer' and grab it from Nvidias site. Changing the game settings doesn't seem to work for everyone alone.

Can you give me some more information? Physx on an AMD is foreign to me, so I want to do this right. I can't find anything specifically titled "Physx Installer" from the Nvidia site. I've found something similar, but will this work on an AMD?

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.0613-driver.html

Is Physx worth it if your machine takes a bit of a hit? I have everything running max at 60 fps with my 6950, but it dips a little every once in a while and would rather keep it running smooth than adding more effects.

gtx 670 and i53750K @ 4.0ghz All settings maxed

Anyone else have it when they open up a crate that the ammo items and other loot at first have a low res texture and then it draws in at the higher resolution with a bit of a delay?

Sounds like texture pop-in which is infamous on the Unreal 3 engine.

Any config edits or other "tips and tricks" to alleviate this or are we at the mercy of future patches? It doesn't really bother me that much, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something specific to my rig.

I used to use FLYVPN, but they have a time limit (passwords change every 20mins) for trials and therefore you have to go into steam offline and leave it there to play (until release day EU/AU whatever).

flyvpn.com

also, you need to go to Internet Explorer options, go to connections tab, then LAN setting and then check 'use proxy' whilst you are logged on.

Spotflux is way easier, but that's an alternative seeing as though you've asked for one.

Thanks, I used Privatetunnel in the end. Worked perfectly and fast. Now I'll keep Steam offline until the 21. :p

The game runs pretty good for the most part but it does get kind of choppy when I get a lot in my view. Like if I'm standing in the bandit settlement and turn the camera to the frozen lake and the first "town" it gets a bit choppy.

It's only slightly annoying for now and the game still seems to run 60 for most of the time including battles.

Hmm getting further from the entry area where the geometry is a little more busier and my frames are dropping far more regularly. Using the latest drivers I seem to go from 40-60 during hectic gun play or sprinting in many areas which is a real shame. Rarely, but I've seen it, it even goes as low as mid 30s. I wanted a lock 60 frames for the majority of play, because I swear I had achieved that in Borderlands with lesser hardware with the right settings.

This is at all setting max except AA set at x2 and 1080p. Physics are at low.
I'm using a 670 OC and an i7-930 running at 3.3.. I really didn't want to have to overclock my CPU more.

What setting would be the best to first drop to gain more of a constant 60fps?

If you see my previous post, even having it running off an SSD doesn't alleviate the problem.

These random drops to 30FPS are really doing my nut in - GPU usage hovers around 70%, RAM is always less than 800MB yet i keep getting random FPS drops :/

Was anyone else having connection timeouts while people were trying to join your game on steam?

Only happened to one person in our group.

How do you make sure Steam is kept offline? Always have it booting up at launch and instantly connects online.

Also if you've used a VPN to unlock the game is your Premier DLC still being shown in the DLC tab? (I know there's a problem about downloading it just dont want to run the risk of loosing it if I use a VPN to unlock via America store)

Has somebody tested this with an Intel 2.4 Quad + HD 4870?
Borderlands 1 ran pretty good, but struggled a bit in the later Eridian zone.

Runs wonderfully on my stock i5 2500k and GTX 260 Core 216. Mix of medium and high settings, no AA, PhysX low, with the 60FPS capped setting. It also feels a great deal more responsive than BL1 did at the same framerate.

You have to make sure you exit Steam before you restart your computer.

I'm getting the exact same numbers and dips that you are, and this is on much lesser hardware. I'm thinking it's simply an engine problem at this point.

i5 2.7 quad core
6850
4 gigs ram

Should the Premier Club items automatically unlock? I checked the available dlc and it says that I have the Premier Club purchased, but not downloaded. I can't find anywhere to download it, not on the steam dlc page, or in the in game menu. Can anyone help me with this?

I'd like to know as well.

I tried this last night and framerate dipped into the teens during the fight to retrieve claptraps eye. Your CPU must just be able to brute force it. I only have a i7 930 @3.9 ghz, which typical isn't a slouch but I'm sure it can't hold a candle to a sandy bridge clocked at almost 5 GHz. My graphics card is a 7970.

If that's the case, I wonder if I can offload PhysX to my CPU despite running an nV card; because I'm getting significant slowdown in physics heavy instances with my 560ti.

My framerate has been awesome so far. Feels so smooth. I set 120fps cap and turned off vsync and haven't had any tearing issues on my 120hz monitor. When tearing happens, it is barely noticeable at all and the game seems to be running silky smooth. It was just the texture draw in I noticed. It isn't a fps drop, just a texture draw in delay.

Isn't it against the Steam EULA?

Wasn't it specifically related to the "purchase" of games through VPN (which I would understand, seeing price discrepancies between territories)? I haven't made a "legal" analysis of the EULA but I'm pretty sure there is not direct mention of game activation or implicit inclusion of it in the EULA.

Just put it in offline mode.

All my DLC shows in the game (Premier and Season pass), but I can't download it.

Does anyone notice that the text in the menus is really blurry? Everything else in the game is super sharp and crisp at 1080p, but the menu text is kind of a low-res mess for me.

That 90% is probably because of physx. Unless your using gpu1 as your physx, then that is weird.

In the Nvidia panel it has Phsyx pointing to GPU2 as 'auto recommended"...My first time playing a game with Phsyx so not fully sure how SLI setups react to it or anything.

So what is the official fix for the .net Loop problem? Running Steam as admin fixes it right? (I'm at work, cant check to fix it right now)

any1 knows how to fix the spotflux thing were it messes up your internet?
I checked both my IPv4 and IPv6 and both are checked and on obtaining IP and DNS automatically.

Nope this was the problem I had yesterday, the official response was check IPv4 and IPv6 were on obtain IP and DNS automatically which they were but were refusing to connect to the internet unless Spotflux was connected.

Ended up having to do a system restore to get rid of it and get normal internet back.

Going to try with a different VPN tonight, not sure what though.

If you have an AMD card the latest CAP profile here contains an update for Borderlands 2. Full beta driver to come next week.

Guess, CF wasn't working before. The cap almost double my performance. With all settings on max @ 2560x1440 on 2600K@4.5GHz & CF 6970, I was getting ~42 fps. Now, I am getting ~80fps.

Turned all settings way down cause my performance was pretty abysmal but it didn't help. My framerate ain't even close to smooth.

5970
Q9300
4 gb

Reckoned it would be fine if i turned down the settings a bit.

While installing it's asking me to:

Repair or Remove MSFT Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributal

What do I do?

What was the answer to this? I got it but hit cancel, which is what I've done whenever it's popped up during installations, but I don't really know why. Does hitting repair just make it look at existing files and go "ok" or will it actually do anything?

I'm just gonna use a VPN so i can get to set my steam to offline mode for the rest of the time.

It will only do something if it finds any errors in the existing installation. It's best to repair for any install that asks to just in case.

Thank you so I'm not the only one that has seen the issue! Yeah me and my friend can't connect to each other at all either by invite or join game. Yet we can play together when we join through another friends game. Apparently I can only join select friends games. Really frustrating since we want to play co-op but no dice.

The CAP fixes only help Crossfire setups, right?

Perfect capped 60FPS performance with all settings on Highest values on i7-2600k and GTX 590.

This game just seems really well optimized, never a graphical hiccup or a dropped frame anywhere and it looks really good.

Same happened to me, i used PrivateTunnel afterwards, it worked great.
