"All ampules are to be aligned in rows, kept at a distance of 0.9652 meters apart from one another."

Lazy alien workers.
" here it says to align them at a distance of .9652.."
"Bah, just pile them on those columns and let's go to lunch, i'm hungry".

Here's the thing: Who is writing all this extra in-detail info for the supplements? Because fuck knows Scott isn't writing it and I doubt Lindelof or Spaights went into this much detail or came back just to pen more factoid shit for the fans. There's a good chance a lot of this shit came from the concept and productions designers' notes.

So if it's inconsistent with what you see in the film, it really shouldn't be a surprise. These guys aren't engineers and writers/directors, you know? They aren't Cameron. Otherwise we would have had a much better movie.

So can anyone post in spoilers what happens in the deleted scene where the Engineer speaks to David?

It's hazy but I remember he said in summation
What are you doing here

And then there was the extended scene with the Engineer
looking at the violin playing child in the lifeboat in awe or something.

I finally watched this Sunday, and frankly, I wish I didn't buy it on PSN. I really hate when a story is left wide open for a possible sequel. It seems like something Scott would be against, like... I'd be thinking he would want to tell a nice self contained story with a wink and nod to a possible follow up.

Here, its like "Oh well... were just going to go on with this and you'll have to pray for a sequel. Hope you enjoyed it!" While I do love an ambiguous ending, that sort of pissed me off, as well as the other viewers watching it with me.

Also, I'm not sure why they cut that dialog out and that final scene. Engineer just seemed to act illogically for a higher being, but I guess he was a military grunt or was being facetious when he ripped off Davids head and smashed it into its creator.

Edit: and I guess I was a little slow, but I realized today the mealworms that were on the ground probably fell in that black gene-splicing goo... so, the idiot scientist who was saying "Come to papa" performed a deadly fellatio on a mutated mealworm... right?

The big secret is that he at least says something.
He goes "what are you doing here?"

Then it seems as if he either understands their language or understands what is meant. It doesn't give any extra insight, but it makes it a whole hell of a lot clearer what was meant by that scene. There simply wasn't enough detail and left the viewer to fill in the blanks. That's shit.

nah that is just a the storage for the empty containers.

"what is this?"

"it's a cargo hold"

That room is different from the other one looking at the environment differences. At least that's what I make of it.

pretty much.

Rough transcript:

Weyland: Tell him we came, just like he asked.

David/Engineer: He asked to know why you are here.

W: Tell him why I came.

D: I told him you wanted to live forever. He asked why.

W: This man, my company built him from nothing. I made him in my own image so he would be perfect, so he would never fail. I deserve this, because you, you and I, we are superior, we are creators. We are gods and gods never die.

*Engineer rips David's head off*

Scott added in the commentary that the Engineer becomes insulted when he finds out David is a robot...that Weyland is having an artificial life talk to him directly rather than a human/Weyland himself.

I don't remember David translating that last bit for the Engineer though?

Just got round to watching this the other night and thought it turned out to be a real missed opportunity and a bit of a mess. I watched it again last night to try to piece it all together and it turned out to be an even bigger mess than I first thought.

I think they tried to be too smart with this one or, as many have said, have changed it quite a bit from what was originally planned.

A shame. I just hope the other sci-fi movies Scott has planned like the Blade Runner follow up don't suffer from the same fate. Ridley and his team dropped the ball with this one. Some of the acting and situations were horrendous too. Shaw would in no way be able to run about instantly the way she did after that surgical procedure. The film was full of silly shit like this.

Meh, I thought that he did it because he felt insulted by Weyland striving for eternal life while the Engineer's culture seemed to have been based on self sacrifice (as shown in the first sequence)

Right, that kind of punctures a talking point I (among others) have been pedaling for a few months.

You are right.

In the movie itself, Weyland's bit about creating David (indicating his artificiality) wasn't even there.

My explanation of Scott's commentary wasn't exactly right - about him 'finding out' David was a robot. Scott actually says that the subtext is that the Engineer 'probably' understood what David was as soon as he saw him, knew he was not the same as this other man, and was 'probably' insulted that it was a non-human who was talking to him.

BTW, I assumed also that the Engineer's anger was down to what he might have perceived to be Weyland's arrogance around wanting to be immortal or whatever. But there ya go.

Scott doesn't even know what his movie is about. Sad.

I can live with some of the jumps, but the script is full of lines that miss the mark, IMO. Makes Everest look like a baby brother? Dead body arena? Try not to bugger each other? How did stuff like that get into the final film? There's nothing wrong with the sentiment behind those lines, but they're just so poorly written and poorly delivered, too.

Watching the deleted scenes last night, the two that really stood were the Vickers and Engineer 'wake up'.. They're basically the same scenes as those found in the final cut, but there are lines missing that make those scenes actually 'work', the Vickers scene especially. Personally? I think the higher-ups tried to purposefully 'Blade Runner' it, but I guess that's just a conspiracy theory.

I saw the "skin" deleted scene. . . would that be preserved in the tunnel from 2000 years back? The bodies weren't afaik, not surprised it was deleted :)

You really think the movie thought it was important to show a room full of empty containers?

I'm just going by the transcripts and making adjustments based on them. Personally it would be a gross oversight for there to be no point in the environmental differences between the rooms because that just add another question mark for the audience.

A lot of detail went into the first ampule room. It's very organic, the distance between the ampules in the other room seem deliberate and also the temperature and atmosphere seemed to be broken when they open the door. But in the "cargo hold" we see they're stored willy-nilly.

The head is preserved in the room before opening the door and the worms conveniently appear after 2000 years too. The ampules start sweating too. There are a few reasons that can explain this from a fan-fiction angle (that's just a ceremony room, the ones in the cargo hold are stabilized versions etc) but none that are presented explicitly in the film as far as I can tell.

God, I wish it had been so.

I really didn't need to see stupid scientist (does that even make sense) and dumb engineers in a pretty sci fi movie.

There is so much wtf in this movie it's not funny.

TRS hit the review out of the ballpark.

Pretty much, it's just not a good movie. Lindelof has gone on record saying he make mysteries. He wrote Lost and 100's of questions went unanswered.

These kinds of complaints just seem silly to me.

We're in the future, watching surgery be done by an automated robot/pod to remove an alien fetus. The woman is clearly in great pain and is repeatedly injecting herself with unknown future medicines to dull that pain. But when she's fighting for her life and the adrenaline is pumping, it's silly to think she could run around some?

Why?

So I was thinking re: the Paradise deleted scene. David watches Shaw's dreams during stasis and her father talks about 'heaven' and 'paradise.' Perhaps David tells her the Engineer home planet is called Paradise because of what he knows of her dreams, hoping it would spark her curiosity ?

Jon Spaights talking about his script, before it was taken over by Damon:

http://www.prometheusforum.net/discussion/3547/jon-spaights-interview-about-his-original-script

Honestly, I would have much preferred that version of the movie. Most of the stupid and incoherent things featured in prometheus exist because all those alien elements were removed from the movie while trying to stick to the original plot.

For example why and how Shaw gets pregnant, the Alien (that emerged from her) killing people around instead of a mutated fifield, etc.

I think the moment they deceived to can the Aliens is when the script became non-nonsensical and silly. They should have started again from scratch.

Sounds like the movie I wanted. Wow. David was much more of a robot asshole and it would have made the movie much better.

I still don't get why there is a mural of the fucking Xenomorph, like the Engineers worship the fucking thing and the Xeno at the end is implied as the "birth" of the Xeno

Janek is such a weird character. This movie sucks

This is something that is honestly bothering me a lot with Prometheus, and I enjoyed the movie enough as is. Both pre and post-release, the fact that they feel the need to supplement it with so many secret Easter eggs/reveal new bits of information not touched on in the movie itself in a clear manner or at all...it all just smacks of "hey we know we kind of fucked up on the whole 'create a coherent narrative' thing, so here ya go, hope this helps!".

I blame lindelof for being unable to write a movie
or tv show
that can stand on its own. They're hoping to come off like there is this awesome universe they're expanding on, but it's more like they're covering up their missteps.

Because, AGAIN, this movie is a mess, it's a new scenario introduced into an old script that featured the xenos. They probably started working on these elements before the script was changed.

Thus the mural with xenos and eggs, as well as chestbursted engineers, even though these elements don't exist on that particular planet. Don't try to look for an explanation. They can try to officially give one, but it would just serve as fixing all those plot holes with ass pulls.

edit: Oh, and Lindelof DID explain a few things in his script. Scott voluntarily omitted them when he shot the film because he wanted everything to be even more ambiguous and mysterious. It can work for some clever plots, but not with this one. It's just borderline retarded. And I'm sure they can't release the original script (copyright problem) because they still want to reuse some material for the sequels.

I posted something about it in the other thread, but I was wondering..

Can anyone here name another film where a character is killed off and then continues to show up in the film as a result of poor editing? I'm talking major motion pictures here.

Alien 3 is worst in terms of fun factor, but the story's development is still better formulated than Prometheus.

Prometheus really has the narrative arc of a TV series.
